Here’s an oddity for you – a low-to-medium volatility Megaways slot! Red Tiger Gaming's Gems Inferno slot features up to 117,649 payways - but whilst the 95.67% RTP is roughly in line with the industry average, it’s the maximum win of just 2,553.2x the total bet, which makes this game stand out in comparison with other games that license Big Time Gaming’s hugely popular payout mechanic.
You might expect that the feature set would need to be wildly different in order for the jackpot to be so much lower than other Megaways-style slots, but it turns out that there are far more similarities than there are differences. We do get a bunch of instant cash scatter symbols represented by gems – the magic gems can be worth anywhere from 1x to 100x the total bet, whilst the coloured diamonds can be even more valuable with a premium payout of 2,000x the total bet attached to the blue variety. The main bonus round is a three-spin feature activated by landing six or more gems on a single spin.
If you’ve been put off Megaways games in the past because of their insane volatility, then this could be the game for you – give it a try with our free demo slot of Gems Inferno, available to play below:

If I had a huge bag of gems, I reckon I’d probably find something better to do with them than throw them on the fire to create a ‘gem inferno’… how about you? Ah, sorry, I know – I’m taking things far too literally again, aren’t I? Are the gems in Super Gems really super? Can they fly? How about the dwarven gems in, err... Dwarven Gems? Well, I guess that one is a bit of a different case, actually… I’ll say one thing, though, those dwarfs look pretty tough! I wouldn’t be challenging them for their gems, personally! One nice aspect of Gems Inferno is its unusual look – this game doesn’t appear anything like your typical gem-themed game, and I reckon that’s probably a good thing as this is a much more interesting-looking slot.
Red Tiger seems to have learned from their past mistakes with respect to the layout of their paytables, as the ones featured in all of their recent games list payouts as multiples of stake rather than arbitrary numbers that require the player to perform mental arithmetic to establish how much a symbol combination is worth! The crown is the most valuable symbol of Gems Inferno Megaways, offering 1.5x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind. Then there’s the Celtic cross, worth 1.2x for all six symbols. A blue gem-encrusted ring returns 1x for a complete payway, whilst a more feminine-looking ring takes the final high-paying spot with a return of 0.8x for all six symbols. As for the low pays, six aces will get you 0.6x your bet back in returns, whilst the kings and queens drop this down to 0.5x each. Finally, the jacks and tens complete the line-up, sharing equal payouts of 0.4x the bet for a six of a kind combination.
As ever, you never know what to expect with Red Tiger’s betting ranges – Gems Inferno has minimum/maximum limits of €0.10 and €40.00, respectively, with plenty of intermediate bets available in between.
The standard gameplay of Gems Inferno works much the same as any other Megaways game – there are six reels, plus an additional horizontal reel position above reels two through five. Winning combinations of three or more symbols starting from the leftmost reel are immediately removed from play, allowing new symbols to drop into view and create chain reactions. The most significant difference comes with the gem symbols, but don’t get too excited just yet- these special scatters come with an unfortunate caveat.
Gems can land anywhere on the reels and are instant cash scatters with a stake multiplier prize that comes in many different variations.
The ‘magic gem’ has a random value of either 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 100x the total bet. The regular diamonds have a fixed value of 10x, whilst the red, pink, and blue varieties have higher values of 50x, 250x, or 2,000x the total bet. Therefore, only one pink or blue diamond can possibly land on the reels at once.
Now for that caveat – none of these prizes are awarded unless a minimum of six gems land on the reels simultaneously!
The gem sack symbol is only present on the additional horizontal reel. When it lands, it will randomly add between one and three additional gems to the reels in random positions. This doesn’t guarantee that you will trigger a bonus round or receive a payout, but it substantially increases your odds of doing so.
When six gems land on the reels simultaneously, the ‘Gemmedi’ three-spin bonus round is triggered. This will cause the triggering symbols to lock into place, and their values will then form the start of your bonus round winnings.
This is a “Hold & Re-spin” feature, as some developers have taken to calling them – I guess it’s probably a better (and less confusing) name than a three-spin feature, as I have previously taken to calling them, but the two terms can be used interchangeably.
The feature begins with three re-spins, and any gems that land on the reels whilst the bonus round is active will reset your counter back to these initial three. The feature will end if three consecutive spins go by with no new gems landing on the reels.
There is no special prize for filling the entire screen with gems, although if you did manage this, you would likely have a payout balance in the region of the game's maximum jackpot of 2,553x anyway.
You can skip the base game entirely by paying 80x the current bet to purchase the Gemmedi bonus round directly. If you have the ability to take advantage of this option, then I recommend it, as the bonus is far more exciting than the base game.
Gems Inferno won’t appeal to everyone, but I believe that there is a place for a Megaways game such as this – it’s an interesting change of pace for the genre and a well-presented slot to boot.
