Megaclusters Slots – Demo Play & Reviews

Megaclusters slots are the new concept and creation of Australian developer Big Time Gaming. This dynamic gaming engine transforms the traditional grid slot by using the Megaclusters mechanic to expand the size of the playfield. This, in turn, generates a larger area for players to hit winning combinations and triggers exciting bonus rounds and modifiers that are integrated into gameplay, resulting in captivating titles packed with entertaining features.

We thought it would be a great idea to give Megaclusters their own dedicated page here on our platform. That way our users and members can find all of the slots from this category in one place along with a detailed guide on how the in-game mechanics work. So, whether you’re here to learn more or just play the free demo slots, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

How Do Megaclusters Work?

As we touched on in the intro, Megaclusters slots are a little more unconventional than their cluster pay counterparts, but how exactly do they work? Well, instead of having a set format of rows and reels within a pay grid, Megaclusters can alter the size of the playfield after a winning connection, which generates more possibilities to win and the potential to unlock lucrative bonus rounds.

We will use the first slot in the Megaclusters series to explain in more detail how BTG has shaken up the cluster pays mechanic and put its unique stamp on it. So, in Starclusters, the game begins with 4 reels and 4 rows. This is displayed in a Megaclusters value at the bottom of the reels, which is 16, with each position on a reel being classed as a Megacluster (4 x 4 = 16).

The magic of this gaming engine activates whenever a win takes place. Any winning combination will cause each symbol to explode and replace itself with four smaller symbols. These will then become Megaclusters in their own right, which will also alter the Megaclusters meter beneath the reels, providing the player with even more chances to create winning connections.

The grid can begin to look spectacular as more symbols are split into four, with each new explosion seeing the latest Megaclusters appear in the style of their own slot machine as they spin in reel formation. All wins that are formed after this will see the winning clusters explode and be removed from the reels with new symbols dropping down to replace them, so in essence, it is the same as a cascading reels slot.

These cascading, or tumbling reels, behave in the same manner as we have seen in their Megaways counterpart, whereby they will continue until it is no longer possible for winning combinations to be formed. Once this occurs, the grid will reset to its original format, and a new spin will take place.

Megaclusters Bonus Features

It’s still very much early days for the Megaclusters mechanic, but so far, we have been treated to bonus features that include increasing multiplier wilds, roaming wilds, free spin bonus rounds, and a modifier meter that can unlock multiple bonuses and features at once, as well as give you a fixed jackpot prize for that round.

The increased playfield that we’ve seen in the bonus round is another area where I think we will see BTG expand in the future with Megaclusters. As the engine develops, this will open up more possibilities and offer new options for the features that can be included in each game. We could end up seeing colossal grids of symbols during free spin bonuses packed full of modifiers and enhancers unlocking huge win potential.

How Do You Trigger The Bonus On A Megaclusters Slot?

Currently, the only way that we have seen the bonus round triggered on a Megaclusters slot is through a succession of consecutive reel cascades. As more online slots are developed within this niche, we anticipate that there will be more ways to enter the bonus feature.

The possible new methods could include a progressive symbol collection or maybe just a standard feature trigger through scatters landing in view. The one thing we do know, however, is that whatever route is taken in the future with regard to feature triggers, it will be fun, exciting, and leading the way in terms of online slot innovation.

Megaclusters Slots Vs Cluster Pays Slots

Whilst both Megaclusters slots and Cluster Pays slots are entertaining in their own right, the question remains, which is better to play? Well, each style of slot may generate large clusters of wins, but the Megaclusters slots can break down the symbols within the game and offer players more chances to create winning combos. This capability means that a different-sized reel layout can appear with each spin, the same as BTG did with the Megaways mechanic.

With Megaclusters slots also being relatively new to iGaming, we would fully expect to see new features and modifiers added that could possibly eclipse anything that we have already seen on a cluster pays slot. However, this doesn’t mean that a cluster pay game isn’t worth playing, and slot developers are always looking to improve and innovate in the niche of grid slots, where the cluster engine typically appears.

The answer to the overall question will ultimately come down to an individual player’s preference, but whilst a constant supply of new online slots to the Megaclusters genre has been somewhat laboured, you’ll find dozens of new games added to the original cluster pays niche each month.

Slot Stats: RTP: 96.36% | Max Win: 23960x | Review & Demo

Our Conclusion:

While the Megaclusters mechanic has not enjoyed the same level of success as Megaways, it still shows that Big Time Gaming is the sort of slot developer that would rather innovate than imitate. Not every mechanic will become the next big thing, as with this one, but at least they’re trying. Personally, I quite like the mechanic, and you might too, so why not give Cyberslot Megaclusters a test run to see if it ticks a box for you? If you enjoy it, make sure you try out the debut game in the collection titled Starclusters Megaclusters.

#3 Star Clusters SlotBig Time Gaming

Slot Stats: RTP: 96.54% | Max Win: 18000x | Review & Demo

Our Conclusion: You can't fault Big Time Gaming for having a go at trying to disrupt the grid and cluster pays niche after the roaring success they had with Megaways. However, whilst there was plenty of innovation with the Megaways engine, its Megaclusters cousin seems to fall a bit short of the mark.I'm not saying you can't have fun playing Star Clusters, but it can be incredibly annoying when you finally trigger a two spin feature, and then one of the spins is dead. Additionally, as with other BTG slots, the stated maximum win of 23,000x may as well be any number plucked out of the air, as I can't ever recall seeing one of their games pay a max win yet.

Millionaire Rush Megaclusters Online Slot

#2 Millionaire Rush MegaclustersBig Time Gaming

Slot Stats: RTP: 96.44% | Max Win: 55060x | Review & Demo

Our Conclusion:

Anyone choosing to play this online slot from BTG will definitely have a great time experiencing its functions and features. The graphics and animations in it perfectly express the base theme, and it brings a new take on the Millionaire gameshow. It’s a high volatility slot, so it may work better for high rollers, but overall, it’s a fantastic release for anyone to have a go at.

Star Clusters 2 Slot

#1 Star Clusters 2Big Time Gaming

Slot Stats: RTP: 96.63% | Max Win: 18000x | Review & Demo

Our Conclusion:

It's been great to see Big Time Gaming have another shot at Star Clusters and make a couple of little adjustments that make the sequel a far better game to play. Yes, I'm sure there are still going to be some critics of the concept, but I was always a fan of the original, and Star Clusters 2 is a vast improvement on that release, and franky, I love it.

Megaclusters Slots Summary

After Big Time Gaming completely disrupted the iGaming scene with their creation of the Megaways mechanic, it seemed to make perfect sense to them that the cluster pay niche of games was the next online slot genre that needed some innovation. However, it’s fair to say that their debut slot Starclusters didn’t get the love from players that BTG would have hoped for, and even though they took the criticism onboard before following up with Cyberslot, it quickly became clear that Megaclusters wasn’t going to shake up the iGaming ecosystem the same way that Megaways did.

That feeling was further bolstered when only Relax Gaming took the mechanic on license and released Kluster Krystals Megaclusters, another questionable title in the genre, which was quickly forgotten by anybody that took the time to play it, and to be honest, it hasn’t been heard of since. There was a glimmer of hope that we might have seen some potential of Megaclusters unlocked in Millionaire Rush Megaclusters, arguably the best slot in the niche, but other than a clone of it a short time after, the Megaclusters train has seemingly run out of steam.

This, in part, could be due to the buyout of Big Time Gaming from Evolution, with a new focus being taken rather than pursuing projects that, on the face of it, have little potential going forward. I guess things could always change in the future, but as it stands, we’re still under 10 Megaclusters in total, and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.

Megaclusters Slots FAQ

BTG may have hit the jackpot with the Megaways mechanic, but Megaclusters, whilst starting well, didn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor. This, coupled with Big Time Gaming being acquired by Evolution and only Relax Gaming licensing Megaclsuters, has led to its downfall, and it appears that currently, the Megaclusters engine isn’t high on either Evolution’s or BTG’s priority list.

To date, there has only been a relatively small amount of Megaclusters slots related, and currently, none of these include a bonus buy feature.

We have several recommended online casinos here on our website that we have thoroughly tested. All of these casino sites offer a welcome bonus that can be used to player Megaclusters games.
