PlayStar, sometimes written or displayed as PS, was launched in August 2015 as a digital gaming studio in southern Taiwan. In its early years, the company focused on Asia-Pacific markets, launching multiple localised games. The developers are part of a firm known in China and Taiwan as 博星數位 (Boxing Digital Co. Cube? is a futuristic slot game from PlayStar that transports you to a neon-lit, cube-themed universe, and it’s definitely a unique-looking game, that’s for sure. The game’s played on a 7×7 grid and uses a cluster pays mechanic, where wins are achieved by forming clusters of matching symbols. After a win is formed, a cascading reels mechanic comes into play, too, removing the winning symbols from the reels and allowing new ones to drop down to take their place.
The game also includes random multipliers which, when active, apply to any wins that you manage to form on that spin. Lucky Ace

The game looks superb and is put together with festive symbols like pots of gold, firecrackers, and traditional Chinese artefacts. Our Conclusion: The “unique” gameplay of Playstar's Treasures of Aztec Z slot seems like a double-edged sword to me – yes, it’s different, but that does not mean it is good. Likewise, the 10,000x stated jackpot is attractive for sure, but tying it to combinations of “1x – random” numbers of the wild symbol makes the proposition almost a joke. I’m not sure if slots like this are common in the Asian markets where Playstar is popular, but to a Western slot player, the gameplay feels bizarre and uncompelling.

Our Conclusion: Whether or not Playstar felt that Mahjong Ways 3 wasn't quite up to scratch, I guess we will never know, but they have definitely upped their game in Mahjong Ways 3+. It is a shame the multiplier resets in the free spins feature, as I think it would have made it a far more appealing game if it didn't. Still worth a play though, for those die-hard Mahjong fans out there.

A look at PlayStar’s About Us page and footer section reveals nothing about licensing. They do have an “International Certification” section, details of which we’ll cover a little later, but there’s nothing about licensing here, only the integrity and fairness of their games.
Fair Play & Security
Thankfully, PlayStar does advertise how it checks and certifies the integrity of its games, and on their “About Us” page, you’ll find them discussing two testing houses that they use: BMM (BMM Testlabs) and GLI (Gaming Laboratories International).
These are both well-respected, international iGaming testing labs. Before any software provider’s games can be offered to online casino partners, they must be fully tested and approved by these laboratories.
Partnerships & Collaborations
Playstar doesn’t rely on the typical partner-network model seen in many other providers. Instead, all its games are delivered directly to online casinos through an API. This means that PlayStar handles the distribution of its games in-house without the need for third-party partnerships or collaborations. Sure, this definitely reduces the potential reach its games can enjoy, but it does give them more control (and higher profit margins).
This direct distribution method also gives Playstar more flexibility in how its games are presented and managed across platforms and allows them to cut better deals with specific operators. However, if Playstar plans to enter new markets in the future, we’d expect to see this change, especially if they look to enter European and American markets.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Currently, PlayStar does not have any publicly disclosed corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. As a relatively young provider, their focus remains primarily on game development, and, to be honest, these kinds of initiatives are less common than they are in Europe or North America, for example.
It’s pretty common to see some of the larger, more established providers offering dedicated resources to CSR efforts like responsible gambling programs or environmental sustainability, but Playstar has not yet made any announcements in this area, and we’d be surprised if they did, given their current target markets.

Final Summary
Playstar has managed to position itself as a good Asian-focused iGaming studio delivering high-quality HTML5 casino content. Although they’re far from a household name, they’ve done a great job in the years since they opened their virtual doors. They offer a diverse portfolio of games, which doesn’t just include slots, and many of these titles offer great themes and unique mechanics.
The developer’s focus on mobile-friendly HTML5 and custom APIs probably appeals to Asian operators, who know most of their players gamble from mobile devices, and their huge, often over-the-top maximum win potentials likely attract players to their games, too!
Currently, their focus market is almost entirely Asia, and without any online gambling licenses, this is unlikely to change soon.
