Platipus Gaming is an online casino software provider known for its slot games and expanding library of table games. Founded as a standalone company in 2014 (after initially operating as part of Miracle Casino since 2010), this UK-based studio has become fairly well known in the iGaming industry, and today, they boast a portfolio of more than 100 games.
All Platipus slots are designed in HTML5, allowing them to run smoothly across both mobile and desktop devices. You’ll find the games readily available at online casinos thanks to their partnerships with major casino aggregators like SoftSwiss, EveryMatrix, and Slotegrator, and, as of 2025, over 700 online casinos offer the provider’s games.
In our Platipus Gaming review, we’ll learn more about the provider, covering their slots and table games, the mechanics used in their titles, licensing and regulatory information, and, of course, we’ve added free demo slots from the studio for you to try for yourself.

History & Company Background
Platipus’ history dates back to 2010, when it operated as the in-house game studio for Miracle Casino. At that time, it focused on social casino games on Facebook and other platforms.
In 2014, Platipus Limited was officially founded and headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man, a well-known hub for iGaming studios. At the time, the company had around 50 employees, and it began creating HTML5 casino games for the ever-growing real-money online gambling industry. In its early years, Platipus focused almost entirely on slots, and by the late 2010s, it had released dozens of slot machines with varying themes and mechanics.
Around 2019, the company expanded beyond slots by releasing its first table games, such as blackjack and baccarat. This move was designed to grow the company’s appeal to other operators who preferred a more comprehensive suite of casino games. They soon branched out beyond standard casino table games, too, offering games like European roulette and Caribbean Stud Poker.
Platipus also built a flexible backend for integration, allowing its games to be offered in dozens of languages and multiple currencies. It supports all major cryptocurrencies, for example, which enabled it to become popular in the crypto iGaming industry early on.

Platipus Gaming Product Portfolio
Platipus’s product portfolio mainly consists of video slots, but it also offers table games, (localised) jackpots, and speciality games like bingo and video poker. As of now, it has launched 80+ slot titles, all of which are playable on mobile and desktop devices thanks to their HTML5 design.
The graphics in their slots are generally impressive, and they tend to use innovative and creative themes, too. However, there was some criticism in their early days that their games felt a bit “simplistic”, or borrowed too heavily from other games (“Book of” clones come to mind.)
Since then, the software provider has worked hard to step up its game, and its slots now tend to be far more unique and original. Below, we’ll look more closely at their portfolio and explore everything they offer their fan base.
Online Slot Games
While Platipus Gaming does cover multiple gambling verticals, online slots are their primary focus. In this section, we’ll walk you through five of their most popular releases.
Wild Crowns
Wild Crowns is one of Platipus’ most popular releases, and it does a pretty good job, in our opinion, of blending classic and modern elements. The theme is, well, as you can probably tell, based around crowns, and you’ll see jewels and playing card values on the reels; kind of what you’d expect to see in old-school Barcrest games!
The gameplay highlight here is the Nudging Wilds feature. Whenever wild symbols land in view, they stick and nudge down with each subsequent spin. Essentially, a wild landing on the top row will stay for three spins, moving one step down each time. This creates a pretty entertaining mechanic where wilds “rain down”, and there’s also a free spins bonus during which reels two and four turn entirely wild!
Every win during the free spins bonus carries a multiplier corresponding to how many crystal scatters you had, and this, combined with the stacked wilds, offers some significant win potential, especially for a retro-looking game like this!
Wild Spin
Set in the heart of Las Vegas, Wild Spin is one of Platipus’ earlier hits that remains popular. It’s a 5-reel slot with a bit of a retro vibe, and the symbols include lucky sevens, bars, dice, and casino chips, all with modern graphics.
What makes Wild Spin stand out is the jackpot system built into the gameplay. There are “jackpot” symbols that, if you line up five on a payline, trigger the Jackpot Wheel bonus. In total, there are 42 jackpot combinations, which means you have multiple ways to hit a five-of-a-kind combo that triggers the Jackpot Wheel. Once spun, you’re guaranteed to win one of the available jackpots, although they’re not progressive jackpots.
Additionally, Wild Spin includes a free spins feature, triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. You can start with up to 25 free games. During the feature, the 5th wild becomes fully wild.
Thor: Turbo Power
Thor: Turbo Power takes you into the world of Norse mythology, with a focus, you guessed it, on the mighty Thor. Visually, you’ll see lightning effects behind the reels, stormy skies, and symbols with rune-inscribed markings! The game’s designed around a five-reel, three-row layout, and there are ten fixed paylines in play at all times.
When a wild hammer lands, it will nudge to form a full reel wild, either expanding up or down to cover all positions on its reel. This not only increases the current spin’s wins but also remains in place for the next spin (dropping off after fully nudging through).
The other main feature is a free spins bonus, which is triggered in a pretty unique way! You need to land 3 full-reel wilds (which can happen via the nudging) to activate 10 free spins, during which additional modifiers come into play!
First of Olympians
First of Olympians is a Greek mythology slot that proved to be one of the game developer’s most popular: it even won “Best Game Design” at the B.F.T.H. Arena Awards in 2024! It’s a great-looking slot, that’s clear, but what really makes the game stand out, in our opinion, is its multiple bonuses and features.
Firstly, there’s a free spins bonus. However, there’s a twist: if you land a re-trigger during the feature, a “world collapsing” mechanic comes into play. Parts of the reel grid might expand, or symbols might upgrade, increasing potential as you chain retriggers.
Additionally, there’s an “earth-shaking Respin” feature, where certain wild symbols can lock in and trigger respins with shifting reels, and this feature can land during the free spins, too! It’s a solid game boasting a medium-to-high volatility model, but the RTP is slightly below average, so be aware of that.
Bison Trail
Rounding off our list of Platipus slots is Bison Trail, a game that transports you to the vast American plains! Bison Trail is designed around a five-reel, four-row layout, and you won’t find any paylines, as there’s a 1024-ways-to-win mechanic used instead! Before we go on, you should be aware: this is basically Platipus’ version of Raging Rhino, and the only real difference is the theme.
So, fittingly, the free spins bonus round is where most of the game’s win potential is, and it’s triggered by landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. During these spins, wild symbols appearing on reels 2, 3, or 4 come with multipliers of 2x or 3x, which can combine to boost wins up to 27x. So, while it doesn’t offer anything original, we wanted to include it here as it is one of their more popular titles, and it shows they are at least competing with the household slots you’d find from better-known studios.
Jackpot Slots
Platipus does not yet offer any progressive jackpot games, and it’s unlikely that we’ll see them released any time soon. While some of their games do offer jackpots – Grand, Major, Minor, Mini, etc. – these are fixed, not progressive.
This means the jackpot values are proportional to your bet and don’t grow over time or across players. On one hand, that means you won’t see multi-million pound jackpots here; on the other, it means you always have a chance at actually hitting jackpots, as localised ones are easier to hit!
As of now, Platipus doesn’t appear to have any plans to offer progressive jackpot games, and given they’ve been operational for 10+ years, the fact that they haven’t released any yet tends to hint towards them choosing not to. However, this could change, and if it does, we’ll update this section of our review accordingly.
Table Games, Bingo & Other Casino Games
Beyond its slots, Platipus has built a solid selection of table games and casino classics, too. These were actually developed as a core part of the studio’s growth strategy, as it wanted to appeal to operators searching for a more comprehensive iGaming product package.
Their blackjack and baccarat games are simple, clean, and play out quickly, and both are well-suited for mobile devices, too. Their blackjack titles use standard rules with both regular and VIP options, while baccarat sticks to classic Punto Banco gameplay. The game developer offers one version of roulette, in a European single-zero format.
Platipus also offers a few poker games, including a Casino Hold’em variant and a unique three-card game called Triple Strike Poker. You’ll also find a limited selection of video poker and keno, with games like 2 Ways Royal offering something for every player.
Sure, Platipus won’t replace the big names in virtual casino games, but their catalogue is polished and fairly comprehensive – it would just be good to see a few more variations of the classics, like roulette and blackjack.

Game Mechanics, How They Work & Unique Features
Platipus Gaming has experimented with several in-game mechanics within its slots, and this section of our review looks at each in more detail and explains how they work.
Paylines
Paylines are the foundation of how most online slots work. In simple terms, they’re the lines that determine where matching symbols need to land for you to form a win. Traditionally, paylines were straight lines across the reels, and there was usually just one. Modern video slots can have 10, 20, 50, or even 100+ paylines, often zig-zagging across the screen!
Wins are usually awarded for landing three or more identical symbols on one of these lines, starting from the leftmost reel. Some games offer both-ways paylines, too, which means you can form wins from left to right or right to left!
Popular Payline Games From Platipus:
- Hook the Cash
- Piggy Trust
- Double Steam
- Mystery Stones
Ways to Win
Ways to win slots – sometimes called All Ways, or Win-All-Ways – use a different system to paylines. Rather than fixed lines, wins form when identical symbols land anywhere on adjacent reels from left to right. The number of ways to win is determined by how many symbols can land on each reel. The most common is 243-ways-to-win, but some games offer 1024, 4096, or more!
In ways-to-win games, you don’t need to worry about how much you bet per line, as it doesn’t exist! Instead, you need to choose your total stake, which covers all possible ways to win.
Popular Ways to Win Games From Platipus:
- Bacon’s Bank
- Lord of the Keys
- Viking Games
- Spirits of the Prairies
Cluster Pays
Cluster Pays slots ditch paylines entirely and instead award wins when you land a group – a cluster – of matching symbols that touch horizontally or vertically. While each provider is slightly different, cluster pays games usually require you to form groups of 5+ symbols, and the bigger the cluster, the bigger the win.
You don’t need to worry about positions or paylines; just focus on grouping symbols together. Once a winning cluster forms, it’s usually removed from the grid, and new symbols drop down to place – a core mechanic in most cluster pays slots.
Popular Cluster Pays Games From Platipus:
- Minerz
- Fruit Boost
- Book of Light
Scatter Pays
Scatter pays slots break away from the traditional payline setup. Instead of needing symbols to land in specific positions, these games pay out whenever a certain number of matching symbols appear anywhere on the reels. It doesn’t matter where they land, or whether they’ve even next to one another, as long as enough land in view, you win.
Popular Scatter Pays Games From Platipus:
- Miss Gypsy
Bonus Buy
Whilst not present in every release from Platipus Gaming, a selection of their slots do allow you to buy the bonus outright, granting immediate access to the bonus round. Although the cost to enter the feature can vary, activating the bonus will generally cost 100x the current bet.

Demo & Review
Our Conclusion:
Piggy Trust is a nice enough looking slot game from Platipus, but this is a style of game we have seen created in the past by multiple developers. If it were an original release, we'd have scored it slightly higher, but once you've had a few spins on the game, I think you'll be quickly clicking back and looking for something with a little more excitement to play.

Demo & Review
Our Conclusion:
Coin Charge is one of those slots you just take at face value. It’s a 3x3 classic-style slot with a solid bonus game and four fixed jackpots. Will it fill you with excitement when playing? Probably not, but it's more than adequate for some simple, uncomplicated, and potentially lucrative slot gaming.

Our Conclusion:
Slick production and several bonus game variations allow Urban Neon moments of fun. Still, unless you’re a big fan of lite-gaming slots, the gameplay can become monotonous after a while. There is a buy bonus, of course, so that may help to scratch the itch if the base game fails to deliver the action you seek.

Demo & Review
Our Conclusion:
What can we say? Wild Spin Deluxe is another good release from a developer who has become quite the expert at creating entertaining classic-themed slots. It’s great to see that it’s not entirely void of features and that those it has can give you the chance to win up to 5,000x the stake. If you’ve enjoyed learning about this slot in my review, make sure you check out the demo to see if it's one you can see yourself playing for real cash.

Demo & Review
Our Conclusion:
I’ve checked out quite a few slots from Platipus now, and in terms of modern mechanics and features, this is way ahead of the rest. The visuals are great, the soundtrack is fantastic, and with up to 321,489 Ultraways and a maximum win of 9,410x the stake, there’s plenty of winning potential too.

Licensing & Regulation
One of the things we dislike most here at DemoSlot is when software providers don’t list their online gambling licenses. Sure, Platipus’ About Us page does point out that they hold a Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) license, but no information about further licenses is offered, and their Maltese license badge doesn’t lead anywhere. So, this meant we had to go digging ourselves!
Platipus’ MGA license is a Type 1 Gaming Services, Gaming and Control Systems Information license, awarded to Platipus Trading Limited under license number MGA/B2B/924/2021.
In 2022, they were awarded a license from Romania’s Oficiul Național pentru Jocuri de Noroc (ONJN) – although we were unable to find any information about their license number, as the ONJN does not maintain a public online register of licensees. In 2023, they were also awarded a license from the Swedish iGaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, although similarly, we were unable to find their official license page.
Fair Play & Security
Platipus’ games are tested and certified by iTech Labs, one of the world’s largest and most reputable iGaming testing laboratories. ITech Labs certified their games first in 2015, and in 2018, they were awarded RNG certifications, which allowed them to offer their games to the UK and Malta markets.
Partnerships & Collaborations
Platipus may be a standalone studio, but it’s far from isolated in the iGaming world! Over the years, the company has formed several partnerships that have massively increased its reach and allowed its games to be enjoyed at hundreds of online casinos worldwide.
A large part of their success comes from integrations with major game aggregation platforms like EveryMatrix, SOFTSWISS, Slotegrator, Booming Games, and Uplatform. These platforms bundle multiple game providers into a single API, allowing casinos to offer a huge range of casino games and slots using just one integration.
For Platipus, this also means instant access to crypto casinos through SOFTSWISS, exposure in CIS markets through Slotegrator, and coverage in European markets through EveryMatrix. All of this is possible without needing to deal with individual operators and without requiring country-specific licenses in every region where they want to offer their games.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is increasingly important in the iGaming industry. Both players and stakeholders often look to see what companies are doing to contribute positively to society and mitigate any adverse impacts of gambling.
However, for a game developer like Platipus, which is B2B and smaller than other studios like Microgaming or Playtech, CSR is likely not as much of a concern. That’s not to say they aren’t doing things behind the scenes, but you’re unlikely to see big fundraising sweeps of charity initiatives like you would from the larger, publicly-traded studios.
Platipus does, however, support responsible gambling. While they don’t run casinos, they provide the content, so they’re partially responsible for making sure their games aren’t predatory and taking advantage of problem gambling tendencies.
For example, Platipus games follow regulations like the UK’s ban on features that speed up play or give an illusion of control. They also display information like how much a player has won or lost and how long they’ve been playing for.

Final Summary
Platipus Gaming may not have the name recognition of major industry names like Pragmatic Play, Hacksaw Gaming or NetEnt, but they’ve shown themselves to be a studio with a lot to offer! Their journey is pretty interesting: from in-house social casino games to real money slots, Platipus has done well to keep up in a fast-paced world, and their games are widely available around the world.
Their games all offer great visuals, and they cover a good number of themes, too. Regarding mechanics, they’re not afraid to innovate, although their Hold & Win Jackpot games may not be the most original.
One of our only criticisms, and something that Platipus themselves even touch upon, is that some of their RTPs could be better. They also tend to focus quite heavily on the Asian market, although this appears to have changed slightly in the last couple of years, helped largely by their Romanian and Swedish iGaming licenses.
Platipus isn’t perfect; no provider is, but they are doing a lot of things right. If you haven’t had the chance to check out their games yet, you’d do well to do so, and don’t forget, you can play many of their titles for free, right here at DemoSlot!
