Lady Luck Games is an emerging online casino software provider specialising in developing creative video slots. Founded in 2019 and based in Stockholm, Sweden, this young studio has quickly gained a reputation for high-quality game design and innovative mechanics.

The company focuses primarily on online slot machines, although, unlike many small providers, it prefers to create rich, story-based games with engaging themes, doing away with cookie-cutter, rehashed concepts that players have seen time and time again.

In our Lady Luck Games review, we’ll explore the history and growth of the software house, look into the game mechanics and features the studio uses, and provide you with a catalogue of demo slots which you can play for free.

Company History & Background

Lady Luck Games (officially LL Lucky Games AB) was established in early 2019 by a group of experienced iGaming professionals. The co-founders include CEO Mads Jørgensen, an expert in mobile gaming, and CTO Vadim Fedorov, both Stockholm natives, the city where the company is based.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Lady Luck Games has also opened several other offices. For example, they have a second business location in Denmark and recently opened a development studio in Latvia. They also state on their website that they “employ a diverse, globally distributed team working remotely”, which allows them to recruit top talent from around the world.

Perhaps surprisingly for such a new studio, Lady Luck Games, operating then under the corporate name of LL Lucky Games AB, went public on the Nasdaq First North stock exchange in June 2021. In mid-2024, the company announced a rebranding at the corporate level, changing its name to Embark Group AB.

Despite the corporate rename, the consumer-facing brand remains Lady Luck Games for its slot products, and from a player’s perspective, well, you probably wouldn’t notice any difference!

Lady Luck Games Highest RTP Slots

As players, if we like the look of a game and its features, that’s generally enough for us to go ahead and play it. However, a key point, and one that’s often overlooked, is the return to player percentage. Better known as RTP, this value determines the amount you can expect to receive back from the game you’re playing over a sustained period of time. Although the RTP is calculated over billions of spins, it is still good practice, where possible, to play the slots which offer the highest value. We’ve added a helpful table of legacy and new online slots from Lady Luck Games below if you wish to seek out the games from the developer with the highest RTPs.

Lady Luck Games Product Portfolio

Lady Luck Games’ portfolio consists exclusively of online slots. While they did offer some non-slot games in the past, these were only available due to an acquisition and have since been sold. Below, we’ll walk you through five of the game developer’s most popular slot releases and show you what to expect when playing them!

Online Slot Games

Popeye

Based on the legendary cartoon character, Popeye is arguably Lady Luck Games’ flagship slot. The game’s played on a five-reel, three-row layout, and you’ll find 20 fixed paylines in play at all times. Visually, it looks great, and you’ll see that it manages to capture the charm of the classic Popeye comics perfectly!

The gameplay includes some great bonuses, the first of which is the Wild Spinach feature, where the iconic spinach cans act as special symbols. When they land, they can turn into wilds or, sometimes, trigger the bonus round, a free spins feature. It’s a medium-to-high variance game with a maximum win potential of 5,000x, and it’s widely available at most online casinos offering Lady Luck’s games, so it’s easy to find, too!

Beetle Bailey: Camp Swampy

Another hit that came due to the partnership with King Features, Beetle Bailey: Camp Swampy is one of the coolest slots from Lady Luck Games in our opinion, and that’s because it manages to bring a classic military comedy comic theme to an online slot! The game’s pretty unique in its layout; it uses 4 reels and 3 rows, but instead of traditional paylines, it offers 81 ways to win!

Essentially, any left-to-right combination of matching symbols on all four reels forms a win, and the theme and symbols are directly lifted from Mort Walker’s Beetle Bailey comics: on the reels, you’ll see Beetle, Sergeant Snorkel, General Halftrack, Miss Buxley, and even the camp dog, all of whom appear in a fun cartoon style!

Now, there are also a lot of bonuses and features in the game, one of which is Wild Wake Up. When triggered, you’ll see Beetle Bailey falling to sleep while guarding the base – and when he “wakes up”, he turns adjacent symbols into wilds! Another is the Camp Swampy Golf Bonus, a bonus mini-game where the General Halftrack plays a round of “extreme golf” on the army base, awarding cash prizes or multipliers.

The Treasures of Tizoc

One of Lady Luck’s early successes was The Treasures of Tizoc, an adventurous slot that takes you deep into an Aztec temple in search of hidden riches. The game is set on a 6-reel grid and offers up to 15,625 ways to win, and instead of traditional paylines, it uses an “all ways” system, so every adjacent reel combination can pay!

The Treasures of Tizoc features several solid mechanics, including cascading reels (winning symbols crumble away to make room for new ones, potentially leading to consecutive wins in a single spin) and a special Respin Collect feature. In this feature, landing coin symbols triggers the re-spin bonus, where those symbols lock in place and award prizes, a mechanic pretty similar to “hold and win” style games.

There’s also a free spins round, triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view, and during the bonus, you can add additional reels and rows to the grid, increasing the number of ways to win even further!

Rooftop Fight

Rooftop Fight is one of Lady Luck Games’ most enjoyable slots for many players, and this is thanks, in part, to the fact that it does away with conventional reels and paylines. Instead, it uses a cluster pays format, and it’s based around an arcade fighting theme!

The game is set on a grid. First, you must choose one of four fighter characters to “battle.” Symbols drop into the grid, and instead of paying along lines, you win by landing clusters of matching symbols adjacent to each other. When a winning cluster hits, those symbols disappear and new symbols fall in, potentially causing multiple wins within a single spin!

What makes Rooftop Fight unique is how it integrates the fighting game concept. Each cluster win by your chosen character deals “damage” to the opponent, and vice versa. Essentially, you are playing a slot to progress a one-on-one fight. Defeating opponents through multiple wins can trigger bonus features or level-ups like free spins rounds where only high-value symbols appear!

Valhöll: Hall of the Slain

Valhöll: Hall of the Slain is one of the best-looking slots from Lady Luck Games, in our opinion – and it takes you on a journey into Norse mythology. The game’s designed around a 6-reel, 4-row game with 30 fixed paylines, and you’ll find a very slightly below-average RTP of 95.80%. The graphics are superb, and the reels themselves are set against the gates of Valhalla, with symbols including Viking warriors, shields, axes, and mystical runes.

The game’s core bonus round is the Hammer Feature. On any spin, special hammer symbols can appear and trigger one of several bonuses: for instance, Thor’s hammer can smash down to merge reels, turning two adjacent reels into one giant symbol, or a lightning strike can add random wilds onto the reels.

There’s also a free spins bonus round called the Hall of the Slain Free Spins, where the reel set can expand and sticky wilds can be added for the remainder of the feature! Interestingly, because of its popularity, Lady Luck Games released a follow-up game, Valhöll: Wild Hammers, which builds on the original with updated graphics and new modifiers!

Jackpot Slots

One area where Lady Luck Games is still developing is in the world of jackpot slots. The studio doesn’t currently offer networked pooled progressive jackpots like Mega Moolah or Mega Fortune, and none of their current games feature a progressive jackpot. While you will find some in-game jackpots, these aren’t progressive, and to our knowledge, they don’t offer any localised ones, either.

Table Games, Bingo, and Other Casino Games

Lady Luck Games is focused exclusively on producing slots. As a result, the provider doesn’t offer any other types of casino games. If you’re looking for roulette, blackjack, poker, or live casino offerings, you’ll need to find another developer.

Note: While Lady Luck Games doesn’t produce its own non-slots games, they did, at one point, have some non-slots content. When they acquired the Danish casual games developer Spigo in 2021, they gained a portfolio of casual casino games, including things like digital versions of Yatzy, Backgammon, solitaire card games, bingo, and keno. However, the Spigo brand and all its assets were sold in 2022.

Game Mechanics, How They Work, & Unique Features

As we’ve already covered, Lady Luck Games solely concentrates on slot games, so you’ll find a variety of in-game mechanics present within their titles. In this section, we’ll look at each of these in detail and explain how they work.

Paylines

Paylines are the traditional mechanics found in slot machines. Here, you need to land matching symbols on specific lined patterns on the reels – usually, from left to right. Some games can have just one payline, but most have 10 or 20 – with some using up to 100!

Popular Payline Games From Lady Luck Games:

  • Weight of the Gun
  • OrangoTango
  • Popeye

Cluster Pays

Cluster pays games are incredibly popular in modern iGaming. In cluster slots, you don’t need to worry about paylines, as wins are formed by landing a cluster – vertically or horizontally – of symbols anywhere in view. Usually, you need to land 8+ symbols to form a win, although some games require as few as 6!

Popular Cluster Pays Games From Lady Luck Games:

  • Rooftop Fight
  • Quartz SiO2

Ways to Win

Instead of fixed paylines, some slots offer ways to win mechanics, meaning as long as matching symbols appear on consecutive reels in any position, it’s enough to form a win! This setup usually significantly increases the number of possible winning combinations, and it’s a very popular mechanic with players.

Popular Way to Win Games From Lady Luck Games:

  • Beetle Bailey
  • The Treasures of Tizoc
  • Lady Luck’s Gold Quest

Megaways

Megaways

In 2022, Lady Luck Games released its first (and only) Megaways slot: SpinJoy Society Megaways. Big Time Gaming (BTG) developed the Megaways mechanic, which proved to be one of the most successful slot mechanics of all time. On each spin, the number of rows per reel varies – usually between 2 and 7 – and this means the number of ways to win can vary, up to as many as 117,649 or more!

Unique Features from Lady Luck Games

Pipe Mechanic

While Lady Luck Games hasn’t developed as many unique mechanics as some providers have, it is behind a unique pipe mechanic, a signature feature that, in its words, “reinvents how players experience slot games.”

Instead of traditional reels and paylines, games like Astro Anna and Mr Alchemister use a dynamic grid of spinning pipe segments, and the goal, when playing, is to try and connect these pipes to form paths. Doing so then awards cash prizes – or furthers the “narrative” of the game, like taking the spaceship into space in Astro Anna, for example.

It’s a very unique mechanic, and it’s actually quite fun! Plus, multipliers can randomly land on pipe symbols, and it also integrates directly with bonus features. For example, hitting multiple prizes within a single spin can award up to 20 free spins with multipliers of up to 20x!

Our Conclusion: I mentioned in the opening paragraph that I’d played a Popeye slot in the past and didn’t think too much of it. Lady Luck’s attempt is undoubtedly a far superior game, but the small jackpot isn’t going to appeal to fans of high-volatility online slots. I’m sure that there will be lots of players interested in giving this a few spins purely for the nostalgia factor alone, though.

Commitment to Player Safety & Fairness

Licensing & Regulation

Lady Luck Games operates under two main online gambling licenses, issued by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC). They hold two UK licenses, both of which were issued on the 29th November 2022. This includes a Gambling Software license (number 049440-R-336119-005) and a Game Host Casino license (number 049440-R-336119-005).

Their license from the Malta Gaming Authority is what’s known as a Recognition Notice Certificate, so they don’t technically hold an MGA license. However, the Authority has “recognised” their UK license, thus allowing them to supply their content to MGA-licensed operators.

In 2023, Lady Luck Games was also awarded a supplier license from Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s iGaming regulator.

Fair Play & Security

Any licensed online gambling provider must have its games certified by an independent third-party, and Lady Luck Games is no exception. In the footer section of their website, they list no less than five testing houses: GLI (Gaming Laboratories International), eCOGRA (eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), Force Technology, iTech Labs, and Gaming Associates.

It’s unclear when they use each testing house, but these are all prominent names in the iGaming space, and it’s a solid lineup.

Partnerships & Collaborations

Since its founding, Lady Luck Games has been active in the partnership/collaboration scene. For example, early on, Lady Luck struck a deal with EveryMatrix, integrating its games into EveryMatrix’s RGS Matrix platform.

This partnership was very important at the time as it allowed their games to be pushed out to dozens of online casinos using EveryMatrix’s aggregation API. The game developer also partnered with Relax Gaming (via their Silver Bullet program) and iSoftBet, allowing their games to reach hundreds of online gambling sites.

In some cases, Lady Luck Games has also made direct deals with major casino operators to feature or even exclusively launch their games. For instance, their Popeye slot had an exclusive early release with the Betsson Group, and similarly, ComeOn! Casino and Novibet had early access to Beetle Bailey in 2022.

Of course, one of the most notable partnerships is with King Features Syndicate, a licensing deal that allowed Lady Luck to use famous comic characters, including Popeye, Beetle Bailey, and Flash Gordon, in their games. This was a significant move, especially for a newer game studio, and allowed Lady Luck Games to compete with larger brands in the industry.

Corporate Social Responsibility

While game developers aren’t customer-facing in the same way that online casinos are, they can still contribute positively to society, usually in the form of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. However, when writing this Lady Luck Games review, we couldn’t find any evidence showing they currently run any CSR programmes.

Final Summary

Lady Luck Games is a relatively new name in the iGaming world, but in just a few years since its 2019 founding, they’ve evolved from a startup with a handful of quirky slots into a publicly listed company with a diverse portfolio of games, many of which are enjoyed by players all around the world!

The company has enjoyed impressive growth, largely thanks to its United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) license (and, later, its MGA one), both of which have allowed its games to be distributed at casinos throughout Europe.

They’ve also enjoyed some pretty impressive milestones, like acquiring ReelNRG and teaming up with King Features to introduce characters like Popeye and Beetle Bailey into their games! We look forward to seeing what they have planned for the coming months and years!
