We’ve discussed this in the jackpot section, but it deserves a spot here, too, as it’s one of Gong Gaming’s best innovations in our opinion! The Royal League is Gong Gaming’s branded jackpot mini-game that can be embedded into different slots.

The jackpot system remains almost identical in each game it’s rolled out in, but Gong Gaming does tweak the bonus round slightly to ensure that it fits each game’s story. The provider has ensured this feature is well-designed by making the dice-roll game interactive and engaging, not just a random wheel spin or something similar, and we feel it’s a shame it’s not more popular, as it’s a fantastic mechanic in our opinion!

Genius Genome

On the more technical side, Gong Gaming has invested in the “Genius Genome” – an internal software platform designed to help with game development. This isn’t something players see directly, but it’s a unique tool – and it is, essentially, a framework or engine that the developers use to build new slots more efficiently. It allows for “rapid prototyping of game ideas and supports a lot of modular features that can be mixed and matched.”

For example, if Gong Gaming is happy with a free spins mechanic they’ve already created, the Genome platform lets them implement it in the next game without starting from scratch. This means Gong can produce new games at a faster pace while maintaining high quality, because the heavy lifting (like physics of reels, random number integration, etc.) is handled by this game engine. 

Of course, their Genius Genome isn’t (as far as we know) available to any other game developers, besides, perhaps, Microgaming, but it’s cool to see, and shows that Gong Gaming isn’t just here to produce boring, cookie-cutter games!

Licensing & Regulation

Now, when it comes to licensing, things get a little bit murky with Gong Gaming. A quick Google search of Gong Gaming’s name will bring up a plethora of results claiming they hold United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) and Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) gaming licenses, but when we checked both public registers, we found no mention of Gong Gaming.

Things are, of course, made more complicated by the fact that Gong Gaming doesn’t appear to currently have an active website, and it’s unclear whether they’ve ever had a live platform featuring company information, etc. Of course, the lack of a website means it’s impossible to check the software provider’s official site for licensing information, so, for now, we have to assume they don’t currently hold any online gambling licenses.

So, how do they offer their games to online casinos around the world, including UK-focused ones? Well, the answer lies in their partnership agreements – primarily with Microgaming. You see, when a game developer partners with a game aggregator like Microgaming, it’s not just games they share. 

In some cases, software providers can piggyback on the aggregator’s gaming license, too. So, provided the game is tested and certified (which Gong Gaming’s titles are), it can be offered on Microgaming’s Quickfire platform even if it doesn’t hold a license!

Fair Play & Security

Every Gong Gaming slot undergoes independent certification before it’s released, and this is a requirement for their games to be offered to online casinos. Now, while Gong Gaming doesn’t publicly reveal which testing house it uses to certify its games, it likely uses iTech Labs, eCOGRA (eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), or GLI (Gaming Laboratories International), three of the world’s leading testing houses.

Partnerships & Collaborations

Gong Gaming may be a small studio, but it has managed to enter into some pretty powerful partnerships, with its collaboration with Microgaming being the most impactful. 

In April 2021, Microgaming brought Gong Gaming on board as an “exclusive studio partner.” This means Gong’s new games would be distributed exclusively via Microgaming’s platform (at least initially), and this was a massive move for Gong Gaming: it instantly gave them access to Microgaming’s vast network of online casinos (hundreds of casino brands worldwide use the Microgaming/Quickfire content platform, and this means a player at a casino that offers Microgaming slots could suddenly find Gong Gaming’s titles appearing in the library.

This kind of deal is mutually beneficial: Microgaming gets fresh content to offer its operators, and Gong Gaming gets the reach of a global iGaming platform. In 2022, Games Global, a new company, took over Microgaming’s distribution business, but all of the exclusive partner studios, including Gong Gaming, now release their titles through Games Global’s network. 

Corporate Social Responsibility

As a relatively new company, Gong Gaming is still building its actual business, which means corporate social responsibility initiatives are probably not a priority right now. However, Microgaming, the platform they exclusively create games for, does do a lot of CSR work, particularly in the Isle of Man, where it is headquartered.

Final Summary

Gong Gaming may not be one of the best-known iGaming providers in the world, but for a company founded in 2020, they’ve done a pretty impressive job of building their resume so far. However, removing a vast portion of their games and a lack of transparency isn’t ideal, and we hope the studio will correct this soon.
