If you haven’t seen a Slingo game before, here's a (very) brief overview; These games are something of a cross between bingo and slots, offering you a fixed number of ‘spins’ in return for a fixed buy-in. Each spin will reveal a sequence of numbers or special symbols on the bottom row of the playfield, and any of these which match your bingo card will be crossed off. Prizes are awarded for hitting ‘Slingos’ – or lines, as we everyday folks refer to them – and the top prize for hitting all ten possible Slingos is 1,000x the total bet. The RTP is 95.15%.
The 1,000x prize for all ten Slingos isn’t the whole story in Slingo Originals Golden Envelope Slingo, as this version of the game also includes two bonus rounds. The ‘Red Envelope’ bonus offers three picks with prizes ranging between 1.5x and 216x the total bet, whilst the ‘Golden Envelope’ feature takes things even further with packets concealing prizes of between 150x and 5,000x the total bet.
It's been a long time since I first tried a Slingo game, and to be honest, I thought I’d seen everything they had to offer by now – this one convinced me otherwise! Check it out for yourself with our free demo slot of Golden Envelope, available to play below.

There really does seem to be a Slingo game for everything nowadays! Have you played Britain’s Got Talent Slingo? Oh, was that not obscure enough for you? How about Deadliest Catch Slingo, based on the Discovery Channel show of the same name? These guys are never going to get bored of pumping out new variations of their Slingo formula, and why would they? These games are popular and quite fun, too – the only problem is that many of them can feel quite similar. Golden Envelope manages to avoid this trap by including two bonus rounds and huge jackpots that just aren’t available in many previous Slingo machines. The trade-off for this is a slight drop in RTP, but I, for one, am more than willing to pay 1% in return for a 5,000x jump in the maximum possible jackpot!
These games don’t feature a paytable in the traditional sense, as all prizes are awarded for completing lines on your bingo card. Sadly, the first three lines won’t get you anything, but completing a fourth will at least return your buy-in – nothing too exciting there. Your fifth, sixth, and seventh completed line will bump your wins up to 2x, 5x, or 8x respectively, after which we finally get on to the payouts you might realistically care about! Eight lines will award 20x the total bet, nine jumps up to 40x, whilst ten will get you a relatively impressive 100x your total stake. Completing the entire card will win you entry to the golden envelope bonus round; however, take it from me – that is easier said than done!
Wagering options in this version of Slingo range between a minimum of €0.20 and €50.00 per card. Your original buy-in gets you ten spins, but the game will also offer you the chance to buy more when these run out at a price determined by the number of remaining numbers left on your card.
The base game of Golden Envelope uses a 5x5 playfield and a ‘prize row’ displayed underneath the reel set. On each spin, a number or special symbol will appear in each of the five prize row columns. Any numbers that match those shown on the playfield – your bingo card – will be automatically marked off.
Special symbols include:
Collecting eight red envelopes throughout a single game will buy you entry into the red envelope feature. If you choose to purchase additional spins at the end of your run, you may use these to try and collect any missing envelopes required to gain entry to the bonus round.
After triggering the red envelope feature, you will be taken to a different screen showing several red packets hanging from the branches of a tree. These packets can contain cash prizes of between 1.5x and 216x the total bet, as well as multipliers, additional picks, and the big one – a “collect all” packet, which I managed to select on my very first entry to this round.
If you have seven red packets when you run out of spins, I’d definitely recommend trying one more spin (provided the cost is reasonable!) for a chance to make it to this part of the game, as it can instantly transform a losing game into a big winner.
This feature is much more lucrative than its red counterpart but is also much more difficult to reach. You’ll need to complete the entire Slingo card to get here, and that is almost certain to be an expensive proposition – I don’t think I have ever completed a card without purchasing several additional spins at considerable risk.
Still, if you can make it here, you'll get to keep picking envelopes until you hit a pot and win a prize ranging between 150x and 5,000x the total bet – you’ll have to decide if that is worth the risk based on each specific game.
Golden Envelope breathes some new life into the Slingo format, and the comparatively huge top jackpot of 5,000x the player's stake ought to tempt at least a few old fans of the genre back for another game.
