Game provider iSoftBet was a bit cheeky when they began using the term “Twisted Tales Series” to describe a new line of online slots. Why? The more astute amongst you probably already realise that Disney has long used this same name for a collection of darker stories for slightly older readers than their usual fare. We won’t get into the details of the books, but suffice to say, if you are interested in them, you won’t have any trouble getting all the details online. Back to the Sheriff of Nottingham 2 online slot, then; it’s a 20-pay line game with a 96% RTP and a maximum win of 7,515x bet.
We can tell you about the feature set with complete certainty, however! Let’s start with a base game modifier – keep an eye out for Robin Hood, as when he shows up, he may decide to trigger a modifier for you. He also may not, however – I absolutely hate these kinds of teases! If he feels generous, you’ll be asked to choose a scroll that could do anything from awarding stacked wilds to a full-on bonus round. How is that bonus round? It’s a three-spin feature that has both regular and super modes and has five additional features not available during base gameplay. Both bonus bet and bonus buy facilities are also included for those who enjoy a little extra risk – or perhaps do not enjoy hanging around in base games!
Were you a fan of the original Sheriff of Nottingham? Or have you never heard of the game? Either way, I suggest you give our free demo slot of Sherriff of Nottingham 2 a try below, as here’s a sneaky preview – this is a fantastic game!

Sheriff of Nottingham 2 slot paytable
Robin Hood is a legendary heroic outlaw that has been a part of English folklore for centuries, although scholars still debate whether he ever actually existed to this day. At this point, the question is somewhat academic; the character has been featured in countless works of literature and later films, television shows, and video games. Whether Robin Hood was a real man or not, legends can never die; this is one example that beautifully affirms that point. We’ve recently reviewed another Robin Hood-themed game, Just for the Win’s Robin Hood’s Heroes, and that game was a real winner that scored 8.3 by yours truly. Can iSoftBet do any better? To answer that question, we’ll begin by looking at the paytable!
A Golden Coat of Arms – perhaps the sheriffs – takes pride of place at the top of the paytable and has a return of 25x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. Next, we have a pair of swords, paying 12.5x for all five, followed by a pair of axes at 10x. A proclamation scroll is an important document, considering it has been stamped with the Sheriff's official seal! – is the last of the picture symbols and is worth 7.5x your bet for each full pay line, including a five-of-a-kind combination. It may seem a little unfair that there are just four high-paying picture symbols yet five low-paying royals, but to be fair, there is also a wild symbol and the scatters. The only trouble is, neither of these has any special payout attached to them; the wild does at least pay 25x for a full pay line, just as the top symbol, but the bonus symbol will not award you anything at all.
iSoftBet’s wager selection process is relatively simple, although they insist on forcing you to choose a coin value rather than just picking your bet directly. The possible coin values begin at €0.01 and max out at €1.00, resulting in a minimum and maximum bets of €0.20 and €20.00 per round, respectively.
base game & MODIFIERS
Sheriff of Nottingham 2 slot base game
Standard gameplay takes place on a typical 5x3 playfield, with all winning combinations requiring at least three matching symbols starting from the left. No surprises so far, then, but there are six possible modifiers which are all triggered randomly when Robin Hood decides to make an appearance during the base game. We’ll run through each of them below:
Pick a scroll modifier
When you do see Robin Hood, he may or may not decide to give you a modifier. If he does, the potential options are as follows:
Bonus Round – The Sheriffs Respins Three-Spin bonus feature will be triggered immediately – no scatter symbols required!
Sheriff Wilds – Between four and 10 wild symbols will be added to the reels in random positions.
Win Spin – Awards a single spin with a guaranteed winning outcome, although no minimum win is stipulated here, so the results can often be quite disappointing.
Mystery Symbols – Just like the mystery symbols featured in countless Megaways slots, this modifier will cause numerous golden coins to land on the current spin, all of which will transform into the same paid symbol once the reels have stopped. Sometimes this can be a picture symbol or even a wild, whilst other times it will just be a bunch of royals. My experience suggests picture symbols are more likely, but I could have just got lucky!
Wanted Spin – The Sheriff is guaranteed to land in view on the current spin, ensuring that the value of any money symbols on the reels will be collected.
Stacked Wilds – My favourite of the bunch, right behind the bonus round that is, is the stacked wilds modifier; the game does not specify how many wild symbols can land in this mode, and I only saw a maximum of two myself, but I suspect that at least three are possible. These aren’t just regular stacked wilds, either – they will nudge and provide you with free re-spins, and each time this occurs, a multiplier applied to each stacked wild will increase. Multiple stacked wilds will multiply their values together before the total is applied to your winnings, making this an extremely valuable modifier.
sheriff bonus bet feature
For an additional cost of 25% on top of the regular price per spin, you can increase your odds of hitting a feature or bonus round. The game does not specify exactly what the advantage is – it may be a boost of 50%, 100%, or just 10%. I dislike such ambiguity – if you ask me to pay 25% more for each spin, then at least tell me if I am getting 25% better odds in return! Because of this uncertainty, I struggle to recommend you use this facility.
sheriff of nottingham 2 slot bonus features
Next, let’s talk about the bonus rounds, as you would expect these to be the most valuable parts of the game, after all! In reality, however, I’m not so sure – some of the modifiers, especially the stacked wilds one, can pay very big.
On the other hand, the regular Sheriffs' Re-spins tend to only produce relatively modest payouts on most occasions. The much more profitable Super Sheriffs Re-Spins only seem to be accessible using the bonus buy feature. Regardless, these features are still well worth checking out, so let’s do just that!
sheriff's respin feature
The regular re-spins feature is a three-spin bonus round, meaning that you start with three lives and need to continue hitting more winning symbols on each spin to keep your lives topped back up to three. If you run three dead spins in a row, your bonus round will end.
This isn’t a particularly complex feature, but it has quite a few facets that make it very interesting – and potentially profitable! The normal reel set is now used in this mode, with all symbols replaced by a combination of money symbols, outlaws, and sheriff symbols.
Money Symbol – These symbols will pay you a multiple of your current wager. The paytable does not specify the maximum amount a money symbol can be worth, but I figure it is probably in the region of 100x your bet, based on my experience playing the game.
Mystery Symbol – This symbol will replace any five outlaws once the reels have stopped spinning. I can only imagine this was included to provide a little additional suspense, as it is functionally no different from just landing the outlaw symbol outright.
Will Scarlet – Poor old Will, he always seems to get the rough end of the stick in Robin’s many TV and Film adaptations, doesn’t he? Landing Will awards 1x your current bet and will also unlock an additional reel on the right-hand side.
Friar Tuck – The rebellious monk works almost identically to Will Scarlet, paying you 1x your current bet in cash while unlocking another additional reel on the left-hand side of the screen. Unlocking the additional reels will result in a 7x3 playfield that should increase your chances of landing additional symbols during your feature.
Little John – The biggest guy in this pack of outlaws was named “Little John” – perhaps that was the height of humour at the time? Regardless, John is also only worth 1x your bet. Still, he will also double the value of all prizes currently shown on the screen, including the Sheriff of Nottingham, which, as you are about to discover, could be very useful.
Maid Marian – This was the only one of the bunch I never managed to catch during my testing - I guess I’m just bad with women. The less said about that, the better, my friends, so instead, I will tell you that Marian will pay you 1x your bet and also give you an extra life – this means that your counter will reset to 4 every time that an additional symbol lands on the reels, so again, Maid Marian is a very useful symbol to hit – catch her if you can!
Robin Hood – The absolute diamond standard as far as this game is concerned; not only will he pay you 2x your bet rather than 1x, but he also acts as a consistent repeater, similar to the feature in the Money Train franchise. Robin’s value will be added to all other bonus symbols on the screen with every spin. If you hit Little John after Robin, he will double the value of Robin’s persistent multiplier. You might think all this would make Robin the most beneficial symbol of the whole bunch, but wait – there is just one more man to talk about …
Sheriff of Nottingham – Of course! You didn’t really think that this guy would be missing from the bonus round, did you? The Sheriff will collect up the value of all money and outlaw symbols currently displayed on the reels, freeing up their positions for new symbols to land. The Sheriff's total value can then be multiplied or increased by subsequent Outlaw symbols landing on the reels, but sadly, you can only hit the Sheriff symbol once, so cross your fingers that he doesn’t come too early. Ahem.
If you collect all five outlaw symbols in a single bonus round, the game will multiply your final winnings by 5x. I never saw this during my testing, as I failed to woo Maid Marian even once, but I have my fingers crossed for you that your ability to pull 14th century women is better than mine.
super sheriff's respin feature
This enhanced version of the Re-Spins feature works identically to the one described above, except that the prizes on the money symbols are much larger than those in the regular re-spins. How much larger? Once again, iSoftBet has left the important details out of their paytable regarding this aspect of the game, which seems a relatively huge omission to me.
Alas, it won’t affect me when I start to play this game in real money mode anyway, as it seems that the Super Sheriffs Re-Spins are only accessible from the bonus buy facility, which is not available in my country.
You can purchase the regular Re-Spins feature for 75x the normal bet, which is relatively cheap for a bonus buy facility, and I feel it is a very fair price for the feature on offer here.
However, you can also opt to buy the “Super” Re-Spins for 150x the normal bet, which also seems like quite a bargain. If I had the option, I might be tempted to choose the latter of the two choices, but I must give you a warning – I tested both of these modes more than a dozen times each and only came out with a profit three times out of the whole lot!
That doesn’t automatically make this a bad option, a bad feature, or a bad game – ask anybody who has bought bonuses in Dead or Alive 2, and they will be sure to tell you that more than 9/10 of their buys have ended in a loss. That is just the nature of hugely volatile slots such as this one – most of your features will end in a significant loss, whilst a handful will give you a gigantic profit. As long as you know what you are getting into, it’s all fine.
sheriff of nottingham 2 slot review final thoughts
Wow, that was another long one! I really enjoyed the previous Robin Hood online slots that I have played, and it’s a tough call to say which game is the better, between Robin Hood’s Heroes and this one. I say you try them both, to be honest!
