Big Time Gaming must have made some serious bank out of licensing their Megaways slot mechanic by now, so you can’t blame other developers for trying their best to come up with something similar! New developer, Northern Lights Gaming, has tried their hand at this, calling their system “Ultraways”, and their new game Rocky’s Gold Ultraways features up to 2,239,488 of these Ultraways. That is a whole lot of pay ways – I’m fascinated to see what the numbers on the paytable look like! The game claims to pay over 11,500x your bet and has a base game RTP of 96.12%. The bonus buy feature has a slightly lower RTP of 95.41%.
Let’s check out the feature set - there are bonus symbols on reels two, three, and four. Hitting all three of these symbols will trigger a free spins bonus round, whilst hitting any two results in a free re-spin that can potentially award the necessary third scatter symbol. You’ll be asked to pick a rock before your bonus round begins, determining the number of free spins and multiplier. A “Dynamite Wild” modifier is available in the base game, and a bonus buy facility is also available.
Fans of Megaways slots are sure to be interested in what Northern Lights have come up with here, and you should be too – lucky for you, we have a free demo slot of Rocky’s Gold Ultraways available below!

Rocky's Gold Ultraways slot paytable
This game resembles many existing Megaways Slots, as well as games such as Dynamite Miner and Shamrock Miner. If you prefer Megaways style games, there is also Gold Strike Bonanza and, well… dozens more slots! Check out this link to see the entire range of miner-based games that we have here at demoslot. Why are miner slots so popular? I genuinely have no idea, but considering how things usually work in this business, it seems likely that there was a hugely successful mining-based slot released many years ago. All of these subsequent games are probably trying to recreate the success of whatever that game was, which I would hazard a guess at being Diamond Mine Megaways from Blueprint Gaming.
Let’s look at the paytable then – I’ve been looking forward to this! The first symbol mentioned is the wild, which pays… oh wow. My initial suspicions were correct – the huge number of “Ultraways” ensures that you won’t be seeing any big numbers on the paytable. A ten-of-a-kind combination of wilds will only pay you 1.1x your stake, whilst a more likely set of five symbols will pay you 0.6x your bet. Once we move on to the regular symbols, an “RG” logo is the highest paying symbol of the bunch and has the same return as the wild – 1.1x for ten symbols or 0.6x for five-of-a-kind. The red and blue crystals will pay you 1x/0.5x for the same combinations of ten or five symbols, whilst the green crystals are worth just 0.9x/0.4x. The “low-paying” symbols – and I say that almost sarcastically, considering the value of the high-paying symbols – are divided into two groups. The Ace and King are worth 0.75x/0.3x, whilst the Queen and Jack return just 0.5x/0.2x. All these payouts are clearly terrible, but the game claims you have over 60 million ways to win more than 11,500x your bet, so how could we do that? Check the next section to find out!
The betting range starts with a minimum wager of €0.20 per spin, while the maximum bet is limited to €20.00 for each round. That may seem low compared to other online slots, but nobody I have ever met bets more than €10.00 per spin on any slot. You may see people playing much higher stakes on YouTube, but they often play with free credit rather than their own money. Don’t be fooled by this!
base game & MODIFIERS
Finally, we get to the base game – just what is the deal with these Ultraways, then? Megaways slots usually work by dividing each reel into a random number of segments with each spin. Ultraways work a little bit differently – the game may look like a typical 5x3 slot, but as you are soon to discover, this game is anything but ordinary!
The regular grid contains 15 positions where symbols can land, but every symbol can potentially land as either a single symbol, a pair, a triple, or a block of four. Whenever a symbol lands in a multiple configuration, it will be counted up to four times when your winnings are evaluated.
Say you hit a block of four symbols on every reel – you must be seriously lucky – this would result in your win being multiplied by 1,024x. Now let’s say you had a couple more blocks of four symbols dotted around the reels – your winnings might now be multiplied by 16,384x. Those tiny numbers on the paytable don’t seem quite as disappointing now, do they!
dynamite wild modifier
Look out for your friend “Rocky” jumping into view and throwing dynamite onto the reels at the start of any base game win. Rocky can potentially throw up to six sticks of dynamite onto the reels, replacing single, double, and quad symbols with blocks of wild symbols.
This can result in some huge wins – say rocky throws a stick of dynamite onto all five reels, and each lands on a quad symbol. You now have a win on 1,024 pay ways for every symbol on the first reel. During my testing of this game, Rocky didn’t help me very often… but on one occasion, his dynamite sticks resulted in a win of over 5,000x my bet. That is an awesome hit to see during a brief time testing a game, and I can’t help but feel excited to play this game in real money mode as a result of that win!
rocky's gold ultraways slot bonus features
The scatter symbols appear on reels two, three, and four and are represented by mine carts filled with gold. Hitting all three will award the bonus round immediately, whilst hitting two will give you a free re-spin for a second chance at hitting the free spins feature.
Before your bonus round begins, you will be asked to pick from several rocks, determining how many free spins you will win and what multiplier will be applied to your winnings from this feature. Some of these rocks also contain “upgrade” symbols, which will increase the number of free spins and the multiplier that will be used during your feature.
You can also re-trigger the free spins feature by hitting more scatters during your bonus round. I never saw this happen while I was testing the game, but if you hit a re-trigger, it will award you the same number of spins you won when the bonus round started.
The cost to purchase a bonus round in Rocky’s Gold Ultraways is surprisingly small – just 55x your bet will get you a set of free spins but bear in mind that you still have to pick some good rocks for the bonus round to be valuable. If you are unlucky, you might end up with just 5 free spins and no multiplier. Nevertheless, at just 55x your bet, I would definitely recommend this option if it is available in your jurisdiction.
rocky's gold ultraways slot review final thoughts
I’ve been getting a bit bored of Megaways slots, even though developers have been trying hard to expand on the basic concept that Big Time Gaming invented with Bonanza and Extra Chilli. The Ultraways mechanic used in this game feels fresh, and I made a huge profit on my starting balance whilst testing this game, which always helps to give a positive impression!
From my experience playing this game, I recommend you seek it out and give it a few spins yourself. This game is absolutely a winner!
