I couldn’t help but feel a sensation of déjà vu washing over me as I began testing Wazdan’sPower of Gods – Medusa online slot. The game isn’t a full-on clone of the sort that Microgaming push out each month, (how many times can they exploit their Thunderstruck and Tomb Raider slot engines…. It’s unbelievable!) but it does include several elements I’ve previously seen in their Dwarfs Fortune and Sizzling Moon online slots. I guess you can’t blame them – if you have something good, you may as well put it to good use… Just ask Big Time Gaming! Power of Gods – Medusa has ten fixed pay lines, a maximum win (capped) of 2,500x, and an RTP of 96.18%
In terms of features, hitting six bonus symbols will trigger the main feature, there is a sticky bonus symbol that increases in value each time you spin the reels, and the same “Hold the Jackpot” bonus that you may have seen in other Wazdan games. Is there enough new content here to make this game worth playing instead of the other Wazdan titles which have similar feature sets? Let’s find out!

power of gods medusa slot theme, stakes, pays & symbols
Wazdan have gone back to Greek mythology once again for this latest online slot machine – as the title suggests, this game is based around Medusa. If you don’t know about Medusa, she is generally described as being a winged human female with live, venomous snakes growing from her head in place of regular hair. Even more terrifying is the fact that anybody who accidentally gazed upon Medusa would be instantly turned into stone. It’s an interesting legend that is worth reading up on. if you have some time to kill!
Video game players will no doubt have come across Medusa several times already. In my favourite childhood game Phantasy Star, I managed to save my game right outside the door with Medusa behind it… if I entered the room, I would be turned to stone. If I turned back, other monsters would kill me before I made it out of the dungeon. I’m pleased to say that the Medusa featured here actually looks quite friendly – and she’s going to be handing out some chunky winnings! I say she can’t be all bad.
Checking out the paytable, Medusa herself acts as the wild symbol in this game, but with no specific payout of her own, you can expect to receive 40x your stake for a full line of five-of-a kind. That’s the amount paid out by the games highest-paying symbol, a woman with an owl – the game does not make clear who any of these guys are, so we’ll just call the next guy the masked warrior with a return of 10x for a full pay line. Then you have an older looking guy – this could be her father, Phorcys, and pays 5x your stake for five-of-a-kind. I have to say, these numbers seem very low for a ten-pay line game – my experience of Wazdan’s previous slots tells me that most of the games big win potential is tucked away inside the “Hold the Jackpot” feature.
I feel like I am repeating myself a bit when I talk about the bet selection setup of Wazdan’s slots now. Their Power of Gods – Medusa video slot features their usual setup which is very similar to that of Play'n Go if you have tried their slots before. When the game first loads, it will show several popular bet sizes below the reels. Two buttons to the left and right allow you to scroll through other amounts; the minimum bet is €0.10 per spin whilst the maximum is €100.00 if you are playing in Euros. The maximum permitted bet per spin may well be different depending on where you live.
base game & MODIFIERS
Wazdan’s game “Sizzling Moon” used a unique 4x4 play area, but in all other ways the game was very similar to this Power of Gods – Medusa slot game. There is also another title, Wazdan’s Dwarfs Fortune, which uses the same 5x3 playfield as this one with similar features, however that slot also made use of an additional top reel in the style of many Megaways slots. This time around, the special top row is not present. All of the special features from Dwarfs Fortune are here, however.
I guess you could say that Wazdan have come up with a new slot mechanic here, and so why not make use of it? Big Time Gaming and their Megaways mechanic has turned the developer into a powerhouse of the industry in a very short period! I don’t think it’s a problem that Wazdan are choosing to implement certain mechanics in multiple titles.
sticky bonus Symbols feature
Six bonus symbols are required to trigger the Hold the Jackpot feature, and this special symbol might just help you to get there. When it appears, a number will display indicating how many spins it will stay on the screen for. Each time you spin, the value of this symbol will increase. Unfortunately, you will not be able to claim the winnings if you fail to hit the main feature.
volatility selection feature
This is a cool little addition to many Wazdan games, and it is located just to the right of the bet selection area. This button allows you to select between one and three chillies, which lets you choose how much volatility you can handle whilst playing the game! After reading the games help files, I believe this is done by using different reel sets for each of the three volatility levels. I say go for the high volatility option – you only live once!
power of gods medusa slot bonus bonus feature
When your bonus round begins, all triggering bonus symbols will remain where they were before the bonus started. This gives you a little head start, but most of the time they won’t add up to much on their own. Here’s how it works:
You start the feature with three spins, and this counter will be reset each time a new symbol lands on the reels. Sounds too easy… and it would be, but the reels now only contain empty spaces and bonus symbols. I’ve had one or two features where I have hit nothing at all after my three spins have completed.
One difference I noticed compared to other games is that jackpot symbols immediately show their value after they have landed. This is probably because there is a special medusa head symbol that will collect all prizes on screen into one box for you, doubling your current winnings.
The Mystery symbol can transform into the medusa head symbol or a regular bonus symbol, whilst the Medusa Mystery symbol ups the ante by awarding one of the three regular jackpots instead.
Fill the entire screen with 15 symbols and you will be awarded the grand jackpot, which is normally set at 2,000x your current stake. Heavy!
A little warning… like the other games mentioned in this review, if you manage to hit the winnings cap of 2,500x your stake whilst playing Power of Gods – Medusa, the remainder of your bonus round will be forfeit and any remaining spins will be lost.
bonus buy feature
It’s very useful for a reviewer when a game includes a bonus buy feature. It’s massively frustrating for me that these features are banned in my country. In Power of Gods - Medusa video slot, the bonus buy feature is particularly useful as it lets you choose from three different bonus rounds.
50x Stake – Low volatility reels will be used during the bonus round
100x Stake – Medium volatility reels will be used during the bonus round
200x Stake – High volatility reels will be used during the bonus round
power of gods medusa slot review final thoughts
If you’ve my other Wazdan reviews, you probably know what I am about to say now – this is a fantastic video slot. It’s exciting, has a great bonus round, and the volatility selector is a great idea which I’d love to see implemented in other games by different developers. Once again, Wazdan’s efforts here are top notch, but the 2,500x win cap lets it down – I must mark this down a tad for that.
