Game Overview

Casino game developer ELK Studios’ World Eaters is somewhat a spinoff of Slurpy, bringing back the unique “slurping” or collecting mechanic. This time, however, it’s been expanded to spread across multiple worlds, and you’ll see rotating collectors, tonnes of bonuses and features, and a maximum win potential of 10,000x. Learn everything you need to know about the game here in our review!

Theme & Design

We’re used to seeing pretty weird and wonderful themes come out of the Elk Studios design room, and when Slurpy was first released, well, let’s just say it was indeed a weird and wonderful game! However, while Slurpy kept things cramped inside a kitchen, Elk Studios’ latest release, World Eaters, opens things up and takes place in no less than five different environments!

This includes the seaside,  desert, snowfields, forests, and volcanic wastelands, and each new world gives the game quite a unique sense of progression, akin to what we saw in Yggdrasil Gaming’s old Seasons slot.

Visually, World Eaters is quite well designed, and it gives off a slight Pirots 4 vibe in our opinion. The reel background changes depending on the environment you’re in, but seaside, for example, shows a gorgeous island setting complete with turquoise water, pristine white sand, and mountains in the distance.

World Eaters Gameplay & Bonus Features

World Eaters is played on a 5×5 grid that expands as you unlock new worlds. You can play for stakes between €0.20 and €100 per spin, and the RTP is slightly below average at 94%. Now, interestingly, forming wins isn’t the same as in most slots. Instead, symbols pay when collected by the two active Collectors above the grid, each of which absorbs only its matching colour: blue, green, purple, or red.

When a win is formed, symbols then drop upward, so the game uses a reverse cascading effect. Now, perhaps most important is the game’s global multiplier. This increases whenever the multiplier wild lands, and it applies to all wins. Any coins that land on the screen have their values multiplied by this, too, and at the end of a spin, if there are coins left on the screen, they are stored in the Piggy Bank, which can randomly explode to trigger a Coin Row Drop. When this happens, the bottom row is filled with coins.

Next up are the world features, and these are all tied to special symbols. Whales effectively act as blockers that, when no further collections are possible, remove themselves before paying every symbol on their reel. Pipes allow Collectors to scoop up all matching symbols, while Fireworks convert all grey houses into multiplier wilds.

Trees spawn clusters of forest symbols that later reveal either multiplier wilds or standard paying symbols, while volcanoes are wild feature-triggers that erupt when collected, clearing the grid of all symbols except those matching the volcano’s collector and repeatedly refilling until no additional matching symbols appear.

The game’s main bonus round, a free spins feature, is triggered when 3 scatter symbols land. This awards three Super Drops and expands the grid to a 7×7 layout. During the free spins, Whales, Pipes, Fireworks, Trees, and Volcanoes can’t land, but you will see UFO symbols. When a UFO lands, it summons the Ultra Beast, which clears the entire grid and pays for all symbols before refilling.

This process also has the ability to repeat, if you’re lucky. Extra scatters award additional spins, and high-value stacks appear more frequently due to the expanded grid mechanics.

X-iter

Like many Elk Studios games today, World Eaters contains X-iter options. You can increase your stake by 3x, 10x, or 25x for a progressively increased chance of landing the bonus round naturally, or pay 100x for instant entry. You can also pay 500x to trigger a super bonus which starts with a global multiplier of 500x!

Pros

  • Very creative, feature-rich game.
  • Unique persistent world progression.
  • Win up to 10,000x.

Cons

  • RTP of 94% is quite low.
  • It’s a VERY complex game to understand.
  • Wrong collectors appearing at the wrong time can be very annoying.

World Eaters Slot Review Final Thoughts

World Eaters is ELK Studios at its absolute best: unconventional, rich in features, and full of personality. While some of the novelty from Slurpy naturally wears off on this spinoff, World Eaters does, in our opinion, deliver far more content, more progression, and a significantly better selection of bonuses and features.

We love the rotating Collectors, the world unlocks, Piggy Bank explosions, and all the various symbol interactions, but be warned, it CAN be very confusing to get your head around at first. We also feel the game plays out more like a low-variance slot than a 10,000x max win slot would imply, and the RTP is a bit on the low side.

However, if you can look past those and want to enjoy something refreshingly different from conventional grid slots, World Eaters is definitely worth checking out; if you can survive the learning curve!
