Game Overview

Wizards of Wildwood is a 7×7 cluster pays slot from DreamSpin, and it offers cell multipliers worth up to 25x, a free spins feature, modifiers, including guaranteed wins, and an Extra Bet option! There’s a lot going on, and you can learn all about it here in this Wizards of Wildwood slot review.

Theme & Design

Dream Spin remains one of the youngest iGaming software providers out there, and while they haven’t gone on to reach the same levels of success (yet) as providers like Nolimit City or Hacksaw Gaming, their third release, Wizards of Wildwood, looks to be designed around the same levels of quality as their two previous releases: Backstreet Wilds and Buzz Thrill.

Visually, Wizards of Wildwood looks pretty good, and the reels are set in front of what looks to be a haunted wizard’s house. There’s a large old dead tree on the right-hand side, and a warmly lit wooden cabin can be seen on the left. Sure, it’s not groundbreaking, but it does the job, and the purple-wearing wizard himself can be seen in the top left-hand corner of the screen!

Wizards of Wildwood Gameplay & Bonus Features

Wizards of Wildwood is a 7×7 slot, and it uses a cluster pays format, so to form wins, you need to land “clusters” of 5+ matching symbols anywhere on the screen. The game offers an RTP of 94%, and you can stake between €0.20 and €25 per spin.

Each time you form a winning combo in Wizards of Wildwood, the Cascading Reels mechanic triggers, and this removes all winning symbols from the grid. All the remaining symbols then drop down a position (or more), and new ones fill the gaps at the top.

Now, at the start of every spin, the multiplier value of randomly chosen cells will be increased. 3 or more increases will happen, and each time a multiplier is increased, it can increase by a level, up to a maximum of 25x. The cell multipliers are then displayed in the bottom left-hand corner of that symbol’s position, and when a winning combo is formed in that reel position, the multiplier is applied to the win.

When a cauldron symbol lands on the grid, it’s removed and replaced by a wild symbol. Once that spin’s cascades have finished, cauldrons are activated, and it then triggers a random modifier. Blue, chooses a random symbol in view and pays anywhere, while Purple transforms one symbol into a random symbol. Yellow adds wilds to the green, and red creates a guaranteed win of at least 5 symbols.

Finally, Wizards of Wildwood also contains a free spins bonus round, triggered by landing three scatter symbols in view. Doing so awards you with 10 free spins, with +1 spin for every additional scatter.

At the beginning of the free spins, 3+ cells are chosen randomly to have their multipliers increased. Unlike during the base game, cell multipliers in the bonus do not reset between spins, and this means the latter stages of the bonus offer the best potential for hitting big wins.

Extra Bet

While Wizards of Wildwood does not have a bonus buy option, there is an Extra Bet. This optional side bet increases your base game stake by 50% and increases your chances of landing the free spins bonus round.

Pros

  • Unique cell multipliers.
  • Exciting free spins bonus round.
  • Four random game modifiers.

Cons

  • Below-average RTP of 94%.
  • No bonus buy option.
  • The maximum win potential (in terms of x-stake) isn’t publicised.

Wizards of Wildwod Slot Review Final Thoughts

Wizards of Wildwood is Dream Spin’s most ambitious release so far, and it’s a feature-packed 7x7 cluster pays slot with quite a lot going on. From the increasing cell multipliers to the four modifiers + a free spins round, it does feel like Dream Spin knows what players want: plenty of action and features that can pay.

Still, there's nothing really new or innovative here. The theme works, but is a little lackluster, we feel, and the mechanics, while plentiful and exciting, still aren’t the most unique or original in the world. The RTP is also well below-average at 94%, which is likely to turn away serious players.

However, for players who enjoy high-action cluster slots with progressive features, Wizards of Wildwood is a decent-looking game; we just wish the RTP wasn’t so low, as 94%, we feel, is just cutting it too fine in today’s iGaming world.
