Slot Overview

Wild Toro 3 is a high-volatility slot release by Elk Studios which follows the latest adventures of their world-famous bull as he goes in search of the Golden Rose bonus and wins up to a maximum of 25,000x. Join us here at Demoslot as we explore this game in more detail and give our views as to whether this is another premium release by Elk or one that you’d be better off skipping.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Elk Studios’ Wild Toro 3 uses an initial 5×4 reel configuration with 178 paylines, with wins awarded for matching symbol combos connecting from left to right. The game, as with most Elk releases, has a disappointing RTP of just 94%, whilst with regard to the betting structure, players can stake from a minimum of €0.20 up to a maximum of €100.

Toro is back, as a walking wild symbol exclusive to reel 5. When he lands, Toro moves leftward one reel at a time until he exits from the first reel, generating one respin for each step taken. In normal mode, Toro begins with a x1 multiplier that increases by +1 with every step. Only one Toro appears on screen at a time.

Three different Torito symbols can land on reels 2, 3 and 4. Each Torito that lands expands the reel height by one row up to a maximum of seven rows, simultaneously increasing the number of connecting paylines. Four rows provide 178 paylines, five rows offer 259 paylines, six rows deliver 340 paylines, and seven rows generate 421 paylines.

Each Torito lands as a sticky wild and awards one respin. Multiple Toritos appearing simultaneously still only award one respin, and no respins are awarded by Toritos if a walking wild is already present. Multiple Toritos can appear on screen simultaneously, but only one lands per reel. The Blue Torito lands on reel 2, the Green Torito on reel 3, and the Red Torito on reel 4.

Torito Features with Toro

The three Toritos activate different features in normal mode when present alongside Toro. The Blue Torito scatters wild symbols across the reels each spin he appears with Toro. The Green Torito doubles Toro’s multiplier each spin he appears with Toro. The Red Torito adds Toro’s multiplier to himself each spin he appears with Toro.

Matador Symbols & Toro Goes Loco

Three different Matador symbols can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4. All matadors function as walking wilds, moving leftward until they exit from the first reel, generating one respin per step. Landing Toro when one or more Matadors are present, or landing Matadors when Toro is present, triggers the Toro Goes Loco feature.

During Toro Goes Loco, Toro charges any Matadors in view. He moves vertically, then horizontally, to knock all Matadors off the reels, leaving Wild symbols in his path. Toro continues attacking until all Matadors are defeated. Toro prioritises Matadors on the same reel first, then charges right if any Matadors are visible to the right, and finally charges any Matadors to the left.

The three Matador types react differently during Toro Goes Loco. The Regular Matador (blue) stays in place until knocked off. The Coward Matador (green) flees away from Toro before he charges, moving to the leftmost reel if positioned to the left of or on the same reel as Toro or to the rightmost reel otherwise. The brave matador (red) drops a muleta below himself before Toro charges, expanding it to cover all symbols below with a tall multiplier wild symbol.

Golden Rose Bonus

In normal mode, only one Golden Rose symbol appears at a time. The Golden Rose substitutes for the highest-paying symbol (Red Rose) when evaluating wins. If Toro and the Golden Rose are both present in normal mode, Toro moves to the Golden Rose after all wins and features conclude, triggering the Golden Rose Bonus game.

The Golden Rose Bonus operates on a 5 column by 7 row grid where only Golden Roses, Toritos and Regular Matadors drop in, with a 2×2 Toro always present. Toro starts with three lives, consuming one life per drop, and drops continue while lives remain. Landing at least one Matador in a drop replenishes Toro’s lives to three.

In bonus mode, Golden Roses land with displayed values. The three Toritos activate different features after a drop. The Blue Torito scatters additional Golden Roses on empty grid positions and increases the values of existing Golden Roses before leaving the grid. The Green Torito doubles the values of existing Golden Roses before leaving the grid. The Red Torito is replaced by a Golden Rose carrying the accumulated value of all existing Golden Roses.

After Torito actions, Toro charges and knocks out any matadors in view using the same prioritisation rules as normal mode. Any Golden Roses in Toro’s path are collected, adding their displayed values to the win counter shown on Toro. Each matador knocked out by Toro adds one token to a meter. Collecting three tokens doubles a global multiplier starting at x1, after which the meter resets.

Once all Matadors are knocked out, the value on Toro’s win counter is multiplied by the global multiplier before being added to the total win counter, resetting Toro’s win counter. The Golden Rose Bonus game ends when Toro runs out of lives, returning the game to normal mode.

The Golden Rose Bonus can trigger multiple times in a single game round. Each bonus game after the first starts with the global multiplier that the previous one ended with.

Volatility Settings & Midnight Bullfight

The game offers two volatility settings: the day variant (Normal Volatility) and the night variant (High Volatility). RTP remains the same across both settings. The volatility setting can be changed by toggling the in-game switch before starting a new game round but cannot be changed during an ongoing round.

The Midnight Bullfight feature can trigger on any initial spin in normal mode during the night variant. This feature plays with only regular paying symbols and Wild symbols on the reels. Toro, Matadors, Toritos and the Golden Rose cannot land during the Midnight Bullfight. During this feature, muletas may expand to fully cover up to five reels. Muletas function as tall multiplier wild symbols.

X-iter

In the X-iter enhanced betting options, the following bets can be made:

  • Bonus Hunt: Each spin 3 times more likely to trigger the bonus – Costs 2.5x the bet
  • Mega Hunt: Each spin has more than 6 times the chance to trigger the bonus – Costs 5x the bet.
  • Toro Goes Loco: Costs 25x the bet.
  • Standard Bonus : Costs 100x the bet.
  • Super Bonus: Costs 250x the bet.

Theme & Design

Elk’s Toro series has a very distinctive look and feel to it, so if you’ve played Book of Toro or Wild Toro 2, for example, you’ll know what to expect. For those who are new to the Toro franchise, though, or even Elk Studios, you’ll experience high-end graphics and superb animations, which is what you’d expect as a bare minimum from a tier-one developer in iGaming.

Pros

  • Different game modes/volatility can be enjoyed
  • High max win of 25,000x
  • Good selection of bonus buys

Cons

  • Low RTP of 94%
  • It could be argued the Toro franchise has already been duly milked
  • Feature buys are not available in all geos

Final Thoughts

I can't say I've been a huge fan of Elk Studios' Toro slots, especially compared to their other franchises like Cygnus or Pirots. However, if you've long admired Toro and his adventures, you'll be curious to see what Wild Toro 3 has to offer, and to be fair, whilst this might not be a game I'll go on to play for real money, the bonus round does look like it could have some potential.
