Game Overview
I’m writing this review on January the first, which reminds me of when my grandma told me of the tradition of repeating ‘white rabbits’ on the first day of a new year, and I’d forgotten all about it until now if I’m honest. A quick bit of research via Google today reveals that this is actually a North American tradition, and they prefer to say it on the first day of each new month! Who knew? Anyway, White Rabbit Megaways is a Big Time Gaming machine that uses their popular Megaways mechanic, but as there are just five reels this time around, the maximum number of payways is 16,807 (or 248,832 in the bonus round). The RTP is well above average at 97.24% and can reach as high as 97.77% when using the feature drop bonus buy facility. The top win is a chunky 17,420x the bet placed.
The base game of White Rabbit includes a bonus wild modifier, whereby a caterpillar can appear on the screen and add up to four bonus wild symbols in random positions. This bonus wild applies a 2x or 3x multiplier to any winning combinations it happens to form a part of and can appear on reels two, three, four, and five. The main bonus round is where the most significant wins lie, awarding 15 free spins with so-called ‘queen reels’ that can reach a height of 12 rows per column. In addition, the ‘feature drop’ bonus buy facility allows you to purchase a set of free spins at the cost of 100x the normal price per spin.
Did you forget to call for your good luck this month? Don’t worry; just spin our White Rabbit Megaways demo slot three times instead! I’m sure it works just as well!
White Rabbit Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There have been many excellent rabbit-themed games released during the past 12 months, so Big Time Gaming has some competition on its hands with White Rabbit! I doubt they will be worrying too much, however – they must be raking in a fortune from all the other developers who have licensed their Megaways technology by now! Nevertheless, I couldn’t possibly review this game without mentioning titles such as Push Gaming’s amazing Fat Rabbit slot or the 8-bit-styled Napoleon vs Rabbits from Blue Guru Games! Big Time Gaming does have an ace up its sleeve, though, as White Rabbit offers a larger top jackpot prize than both of those games combined!
I’m not entirely sure who the character portrayed on the game’s highest-paying symbol is supposed to represent. The Queen of Hearts, perhaps? Whoever she is, she’ll award you a total of 25x the current bet whenever a payline of five of a kind forms on the reel set! The medium pays are represented by three coloured gems; the Red is the most valuable of the trio, paying 5x the total stake for all five symbols, whilst the Blue and Green Gems share an identical return of 2x the bet for a complete payway. The royals have been jazzed up a little with pictures of a Purple Cat, Blue Parrot, and Toy Soldiers, amongst other whimsical things, and their payouts range between 0.6x for five nines up to 2x for five Aces.
The betting range in this machine starts at €0.10 per spin, perfect for low rollers, whilst the maximum is limited to €20.00. I think it’s fair to say, though, that the number of options between these two bet sizes will be more than enough to match the bankroll of all players who choose to try the game.
White Rabbit Megaways Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of White Rabbit takes place on a five-reel playfield, each of which can divide into between two and seven rows on each round. This results in a maximum of 16,807 payways in regular play, increasing to a massive 248,832 during the bonus round. Most winning combinations require at least three matching symbols starting from the left to award a prize, although the top character symbol has a payout of 2x for just two symbols starting from the left.
Caterpillar Multiplier
Randomly on any base game spin, a blue caterpillar can appear on the screen, adding up to four bonus wild symbols to the reels in random positions. These bonus wild symbols will increase the value of any winning combinations they are involved with by a factor of either two or three.
White Rabbit Megaways Slot Bonus Features
Bonus scatter symbols appear on reels two, three, and four only, and you will need to hit all three of them simultaneously to win yourself a free spin bonus round.
Free Spins
After triggering the bonus round, fifteen free spins will be added to your remaining counter. You can win an additional set of 15 spins by unlocking all of the extra positions available on every reel, but I’m getting ahead of myself now!
The so-called ‘Queen’s Reel’ feature is activated by collecting cupcakes which only appear during this part of the game. Every cupcake will extend the height of the reel where it appears up to a maximum of 12 rows per reel. The extended reels feature many more queen symbols and a multitude of additional wilds.
Bonus Buy
Dubbed the ‘feature drop’ facility in Big Time Gaming parlance, this option allows you to purchase a set of 15 free spins at the cost of 100x the normal price per round. This seems like a great bargain to me; the only problem is that some regulators, such as the UKGC, prohibit these types of features under the terms of their licenses, so the option may not be available in all territories.
Keep a look out for special golden BTG coins that can land on the reels too. These will reduce the amount it costs to buy the feature, and if the feature drop price reaches zero, the free spins will trigger automatically on the next spin.
Pros
- Two bonus features to trigger.
- Free spins seem to activate with relative frequency.
Cons
- Below average RTP.
- Low maximum win cap of 5,000x.
White Rabbit Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
Since the release of White Rabbit Megaways, there have been many changes with both Big Time Gaming and the Megaways engine itself. At one point, White Rabbit was as good as it got regarding themed Megaways titles, whilst BTG was at the top of its game and leading the way in iGaming. However, Blueprint Gaming took over the mantle after they acquired a license to create slot games featuring Megaways, which led to some genuinely awesome releases that you can play here on our site, including our Rick and Morty Megaways free play slot, the Rainbow Riches Megaways demo, and the fantastic Ted Megaways free play slot. As for Big Time Gaming, after Evolution acquired them, there has been a considerable drop off in both their releases and the overall quality. However, their releases are always worth checking out just in case they reveal another hidden gem.
