Game Overview

White Rabbit 2 is Big Time Gaming’s long-awaited return to Wonderland, of course, being the sequel to their original hit, White Rabbit. Now, the mysterious rabbit is back with a Hold & Spin bonus, Megapot jackpots, and a maximum win potential of up to 133,100x! Sounds good, but is the game worth playing? Let’s find out!

Theme & Design

When the original White Rabbit slot was released in 2017, it quickly became one of Big Time Gaming’s most popular releases, right up there with the likes of Bonanza Megaways and Danger High Voltage. It’s no surprise to see them following up with a sequel, but what did surprise us is how similar White Rabbit 2 looks to the original.

The backdrop looks almost identical, and you’ll once again find yourself in a psychedelic Wonderland of giant mushrooms, tea parties and glowing castles. The reels themselves are semi-transparent, and aside from the Megapots meter just above the reels, it really is hard to tell many differences between this and the original.

White Rabbit 2 Gameplay & Bonus Features

White Rabbit 2 is played on a 5-reel setup, and it uses Big Time Gaming’s iconic Megaways mechanic, so each spin can land between 2 and 7 symbols per reel. In the game’s default reel setup, this can result in up to 16,807 ways to win. You can stake between €0.20 and €3.60 per spin, and the game offers an RTP of 96.37%.

Now, the first real difference compared to the original is the introduction of Coin symbols. These display cash values, character symbols, or jackpots, and landing 6+ anywhere in view triggers the game’s Hold & Spin feature. This awards you with 3 re-spins, and all triggering coins lock in place. Any new Coins reset the respin counter to 3 and also lock. There are various character modifiers, including:

  • White Rabbit: Multiplies one prize by up to 10x.
  • Alice and the Red Queen: Collect all visible prizes.
  • Cheshire Cat: Reveals a prize and adds it to all existing prizes.
  • Dodo: Collects all Coins on the reel it lands on.
  • Mad Hatter: Collects one random prize anywhere in view.
  • The Twins: Duplicates a random prize into two of equal value.

Now Cupcake symbols can also land during the Hold & Spin feature, and when they do, they expand their reel by one symbol up to a maximum height of 12. If every position on the grid is filled with Coins, the feature ends and the total bonus prize is doubled.

Megapots are also available, exclusive during the Hold & Spin round. Three matching Megapot icons, which includes Mini, Midi or Mega, awards the corresponding jackpot. Jackpot values fluctuate, with the Mini worth between 100x and 300x, the Midi worth between 1,000x and 8,888x, and the Mega worth between 20,888x and 88,888x.

Finally, White Rabbit 2 also has a free spins bonus, triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so awards 12, 16, or 20 free spins respectively. At the start of the feature, each reel is randomly set between 5 and 7 symbols high, and Cupcake symbols once again become the key to expanding the reels.

Every Cupcake that lands on a reel increases its height by one symbol, up to a maximum of 12, just like in the original. As the reels grow, so does the number of ways to win, and at full expansion, you’re playing with up to 248,832 ways to win active. Plus, again, like the original, whenever a reel reaches 12 symbols high, you receive a retrigger of between 3 and 12 additional free spins.

Bonus Buy

White Rabbit 2 offers two bonus buy options. You can buy the Hold & Spin feature for 35x your bet, or the main free spins for 100x.

Pros

  • Insanely high maximum win potential of 133,100x.
  • Good variety of bonuses and features.
  • Megapots mechanic offers progressive jackpots.

Cons

  • RTP is lower than the original White Rabbit.
  • Megapots mechanic won’t appeal to all players.
  • Feels like a bit of a lazy sequel, if we’re honest.

White Rabbit 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts

White Rabbit 2 was a game that we were really looking forward to, but in hindsight, we’re not really sure why. Pretty much all of Big Time Gaming’s sequels, like Danger High Voltage 2 and Bonanza Megapays, have all been pretty big letdowns, and White Rabbit 2, in our opinion, is no different.

On the face of it, it’s almost the exact same game, with a lower RTP. Yes, you do have a couple of extra bonuses and features included, mainly the Hold & Spin feature, but this feels like BTG trying to “fit in” with all other game developers today rather than including a mechanic they actually think players will enjoy.

It also baffles us that the main free spins bonus hasn’t changed whatsoever; it’s the exact same as found in the original. This just makes no sense to us, and it really does beg the question of what’s happened to Big Time Gaming in the last few years. They feel like a completely different studio to the one pushing out early hits, and it seems they’re just taking lazy, boring, and “safe” approaches when making sequels.

Of course, the maximum win potential of 133,100x is appealing, and some players will like the fact that there are now Megapots jackpots, but all in all, it’s a disappointing sequel, and there’s really nothing to get excited about here as far as we can see.
