Game Overview

I’m really glad that ReelPlay chose to colour-code the symbols in their new Tsai Shen 10K Ways online slot, as I couldn’t tell you what a single one of the traditional Chinese characters that appear on the reel set signifies! At first glance, the game looks a lot like a Megaways slot – six reels, plus an additional horizontal across the top of reels two through five. The difference here is that the six main reels have four fixed rows each, creating a total of 10,000 payways rather than the 117,649 commonly associated with the Megaways design. The RTP of 94% is a little lower than average, and that’s before we factor in the Dream Drop progressive contribution, which is a hefty 12% as well. The top win from the standard game is 2,561x the total bet, whilst the largest Dream Drop progressive is guaranteed to hit before it reaches €10,000,000.

The main bonus re-spins feature available in Tsai Shen 10K Ways is a three-spin affair, the type of bonus that uses an alternative reel set and requires you to hit at least one new symbol on each re-spin to keep the bonus in play. Every symbol that lands in this bonus have a cash value assigned to it, with the most valuable symbols paying as much as 2,000x the total bet. The ‘Dream Drop’ part of the title refers to the progressive jackpot system included within the game. There are five jackpots available, but this isn’t really a solid reason to play Tsai Shen 10K Ways specifically, as the same jackpots can also be won in several other Relax Gaming slots.

I feel as if I should really look up the meaning of Tsai Shen – before I do that, I’m going to guess that it relates to fortune or luck in some way. Why? Well, we’ve already had a similarly named slot – Red Tiger’s Cai Shen 168 – and another from Habanero called Fa Cai Shen as well. There’s also a Tsai Shen’s Gift online slot by Playtech, so the word ‘Shen’ clearly has some important meaning in Chinese gambling culture. I’m not familiar enough with the Chinese language to be able to tell you what any of the symbols that appear on the reels of this game might mean, but I do recognise them as being traditional symbols – the type used in Taiwan – rather than the simplified characters that are used in Communist China today. This doesn’t make any difference to the gameplay, of course, but I still felt that it was an interesting observation to make, as Taiwan is a great country!

The high-paying symbols that feature at the top of the paytable in Tsai Shen 10K Ways are all made of gold, the most valuable of which are the three linked gold coins. These will pay you 100x the total bet for a complete payway of six of a kind and is also the only symbol to offer a payout for just two matches. The other ‘high-paying’ symbols are worth substantially less – the golden frog will award 5x the total bet for all six symbols, whilst the dragon-headed tortoise drops to just 2.5x for a complete payway. The final high-paying symbol is a golden fish, which awards 2x the total bet for a six of a kind combination. Finally, the six low-paying symbols feature Chinese characters rather than the royal symbols common to many other online slots, and a six-of-a-kind combination of these will net you between 0.5x and 1.2x the total bet.

The minimum bet per spin in Tsai Shen 10K Ways is a little higher than average at €0.40 per spin – it’s not a huge amount but may be a bit too much for those with very small bankrolls. So if you want a decent night’s slotting entertainment out of €20.00, for example, this probably isn’t an ideal game choice. The maximum bet of €20.00 per spin is fine, but keep in mind that the size of your bet correlates directly with your chances of triggering a Dream Drop jackpot. For this reason, you may prefer to bet a little more on this game than you would on a non-progressive jackpot machine.

Base Game & Modifiers

Tsai Shen 10k Ways Dream Drop Slot Base Game

As mentioned in the opening paragraph, Tsai Shen 10K Ways looks like a Megaways slot immediately after it first loads. Appearances can be deceiving, though, as each reel has a fixed set of four rows attached to it, rather than the variable number of rows used in Megaways games. This means that every bet guarantees you 10,000 active payways, which some players may find preferable to the varying number offered in Megaways slots.

The base game does not include any special features, but the Dream Drop bonus round can be triggered randomly every time you press spin during the base game. The odds of this happening increase in line with the size of your wager, but triggering the Dream Drop bonus game guarantees you will win one of the five jackpots.

Tsai Shen 10k Ways Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features

To trigger the main bonus round, you will need to hit at least six scatter symbols during a single base game spin. All scatters that land on the triggering spin will become locked in place before the bonus round begins, guaranteeing that you will win all of the prizes printed on them at the end of the feature.

Respin Bonus

This is a three-spin bonus round, meaning that you start with three lives on your remaining counter. Each re-spin uses one of your lives, but if a new symbol lands on the reels during that spin, your life counter is reset to the initial three. The feature will end if no new symbols land for three consecutive spins.

Every symbol that lands during the bonus re-spins feature has a cash value attached to it. The most valuable of these are worth 250x and 2,000x the total bet, but these can only land once during a single bonus round. The maximum total win possible from this feature is a little over 2,561x the total bet.

Dream Drop Jackpot

The Dream Drop jackpots are a common feature of many Relax Gaming slots. The larger jackpots are very impressive – the MEGA, for example, seeds at an enormous €500,000. To pay for these jackpots, 12% of the cost of every spin played on this game goes directly towards the jackpot prize fund.

Some players may see this as a bit of a problem, as the overall RTP is just 94% to begin with. That’s a full 2% less than the industry average, and deducting another 12% for the progressive jackpot contributions leaves just 82% available for regular payouts.

This will ensure that you get far less play time from this game than a similar machine that does not offer progressive jackpots. Whether the trade-off is worth it is a decision each player must make for themselves.

Tsai Shen 10k Ways Dream Drop Slot Review Final Thoughts

The Dream Drop jackpots offered in this game can be found in plenty of other slots, many of which are much more fun than this one. Unless the theme happens to appeal to you, I wouldn’t recommend bothering with Tsai Shen 10K Ways – I couldn’t recommend a game with an RTP as low as this.
