Game Overview
While Big Time Gaming are hardly slouches, they’re not what you’d label a trigger-happy slot provider in the mould of many others that develop multiple slots monthly. Nope, the BTG team would rather take the time to ensure its releases stand a better chance of success. Besides, the studio probably makes a ton of money from leasing the Megaways mechanic, so I doubt they have to rush out slots. Ironically, and I promise, not by design, BTG’s latest slot is Trigger Happy, a cluster pays slot that plays out across a 5×5 grid, has a 96.58% RTP, and a 50,000x maximum win.
Admit it, when you learn a new BTG slot is on the way, like me, you instantly assume it will be another Megaways slot. That wouldn’t be such a bad thing either, as the developer created it and released some of the best slots that use it. However, the team has gone down a different route with Trigger Happy by utilising a Cluster Pays mechanic combined with cascades, wild symbols, free spins, and a whole bunch of modifiers that we’ll get into later.
This is far from being the first time Big Time Gaming has swayed away from its iconic random reel modifier mechanic, with previous attempts enjoying mixed results. To see if this latest slot is hit or miss, take it for a few spins on the Trigger Happy demo slot below.
Trigger Happy Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If you are one of those hardcore Megaways slot fans and were expecting to see a new game here featuring that mechanic, not all is lost, as I’ll point you in the direction of some worthy free casino slots that include the popular engine. Let’s stick with Big Time Gaming first, and if you’ve always fancied yourself as a bit of a secret agent, then Max Megaways will be right up your street. If you’d rather spice things up a little, then Pragmatic Play’s Chilli Heat Megaways is a fantastic choice, and if you’re happening to view this page around the festive period, why not unwrap the bonus round and modifiers that Christmas Carol Megaways has to offer, which also part of the Pragmatic game portfolio.
The next stop in our slot review of Trigger Happy takes us over to the paytable, which features seven fluffy ball creatures, the most lucrative of which are the Purple-Moustached and Red-Horned fellows that both return 50x the stake for a 15+ combo. The Blue Chap with Ears is worth 20x for a same-sized cluster, while the Green Dude weighs in with a max win of 15x, the same payout attributed to the Orange Ball of Fluff. The Yellow and Light Blue Creatures conclude the pays section and bring max wins of 10x the stake for winning combos of 15 or more symbols.
Players looking to try out the Trigger Happy slot for real money shouldn’t encounter any issues when trying to find a suitable stake. BTG has implemented a minimum price per play of €0.20, with the maximum stake on the game reaching €20 a spin.
Trigger Happy Slot Base Game & Modifiers
Cluster Pays is one of my favourite mechanics, so I was delighted when I found out Big Time Gaming has used it for Trigger Happy. Whenever five or more matching symbols are connected horizontally or vertically in the slot’s 5×5 reel configuration, you receive a payout as per the paytable. A cascading reels mechanic removes all winning symbols from the reels, leaving space for more to drop in from above.
Wild Symbols
At least one Wild symbol is guaranteed to land per spin/cascade due to a Target that places one in a random position each time. Wilds step in for other regular symbols when winning combinations are possible. As you’ll see below, these can hold a win multiplier of up to 3x that applies to any winning combinations they help to create.
Bonus Panels
There are two bonus panels, one above and another to the left of the reels. Each holds five positions that can reveal reactions on any spin.
- Multipliers: During the base game, multipliers of 1x, 2x, and 3x, can land in these positions. That value applies to wild symbols on the same reel/row as the multiplier symbol. If a wild symbol aligns with two multipliers, those values are multiplied by each other before applying to the wild.
- Bombs: These will destroy all symbols on their row/reel and add up to 4 wild symbols into the vacated positions.
- Trigger Coin: If the Trigger lands on a Trigger Coin symbol, you’ll trigger the free spins bonus.
Trigger Happy Slot Bonus Features
The free spins bonus, which triggers via the Target and coins, is the only bonus game on Trigger Happy, but there is a buy bonus and a win exchange you can consider using. More on that soon.
Free Spins Feature
Once triggered, you’re given 8 free spins, which differ from the base game spins. There are now two of the target symbols placing wilds on the reels. If trigger coins on both Bonus Panels hit where a target lands, 3 additional spins are rewarded, while you’ll get 6 if this happens for both Triggers. Lastly, the wild multipliers can be as high as 10x during free spins.
Bonus Buy & Win Exchange
There are a few other ways to trigger the free spins bonus on Trigger Happy. One is to exchange a base game win of between 25x and 100x for a chance to spin in the bonus on a gamble wheel. Alternatively, you can exchange any win of 100x or more to activate the feature. Finally, you could use the bonus buy to purchase the free pins for 100x your current bet.
Pros
- A nicely sized max win of 50,000x
- The win exchange and buy bonus will suit high-risk players down to the ground.
Cons
- There might be a max win of 50,000x, but there will be next to no chance of achieving it.
Trigger Happy Slot Review Final Thoughts
After some fairly lacklustre releases previous to Trigger Happy in the form of Fireworks Megaways and the bizarre Panda Money, it's nice to see a slight uptick in the output from Big Time Gaming.Yes, the theme of this slot game might not be for everybody, but there's enough bonus wise to stop you from instantly hitting the back button like some of the past titles from the studio.
