Game Overview

We cover a variety of themes in the online slots and casino games we feature here on our site, but I can recall very few, if any, that are based around timber. That’s all set to change as we jump into our review of the Timber Stacks slot game from provider Pragmatic Play. This is a 5-reel slot that includes up to 100,000 paylines, an RTP of 96.50% and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

The game’s main feature is the Increasing Grid Size, which can trigger randomly in the base game and more frequently in the free spins feature. When it activates, this feature will add an extra row of symbols at the bottom of the grid, which can reach up to 10 rows high. We also have reel tumbles present in the slot game. Perhaps better known as cascading reels, this activates when winning combos are formed, removing the winning symbols from the reels before replacing them with new ones for more chances to win.

Can you think of any other online slots with a timber theme? We’re giving out free lumberjack jackets for anyone who emails in their top three. Just kidding, but we do have a free Timber Stacks slot demo you can play instead; it’s available to play below.

Timber Stacks Paytable

This would typically be the section of our review where we think of a couple of other slot games in the same genre you can try. But as we have already concluded, they are a little thin on the ground or possibly non-existent, so the closest thing I can come up with is from our Play’n Go slots catalogue titled the Wild North slot. Give that a few spins when you’ve got the chance. Okay, we’re geared up to find out what Pragmatic’s Timber Stacks slot can pay, so I’ll see you over at the paytable.

Starting from the top, we have the Wolf, paying 10x the bet for a five of a kind win. Next is the Bear, worth 4x, followed by the Owl at 2x, and the Cougar and Fish, sharing equal payouts of 1.5x bet for a winning combo of five. The low pays are represented by five royals, with the Ace and King worth 1x the bet for a completed line of five, and the Queen, Jack and Ten all awarding 0.8x bet for a five of a kind hit. The Wild symbol can only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4, substituting for all other regular in-game symbols.

Regarding the price of play on Timber Stacks, you can get the reels rolling from just €0.20 a spin, with the max stake on the game reaching €240. However, it’s unlikely that you’ll find any online casinos offering stakes as high as those in the demo. It might be unrealistic, but I doubt any brand would want to risk a player hitting 10,000x on a €240 bet.

Timber Stacks Slot Base Game

Timber Stacks Base Game
Timber Stacks base game

Gameplay begins on the Timber Stacks slot over a 5×5 reel matrix with a total of 3,125 ways to win. Players will bank themselves some cash when at least three matching symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel first. Each win achieved will trigger the cascading reels mechanic, eliminating winning symbols from the reels and replacing them with new ones, giving players additional chances to win from just one paid spin.

Increasing Grid Size

After every spin or tumble, if there are no winning combinations on the screen, there is a random chance the Increasing Grid Size feature will trigger. When it happens, one or more empty row of symbols is added to the bottom of the grid, and a random reel is selected to fall to the bottom. If reel 1 or 2 are selected to fall, all symbols from them fall to the right, adding the symbols currently on them, from bottom to top, in as many positions as are empty at the bottom. After that, new symbols fall from the top to fill the reel that fell.

If reel 3 is selected to fall, all symbols from it fall randomly to either right or left, adding the symbols currently on it, from bottom to top, in as many positions as are empty at the bottom. After that, new symbols fall from the top to fill the reel that fell. If reel 4 or 5 are selected to fall, all symbols from them fall to the left, adding the symbols currently on them, from bottom to top, in as many positions as are empty at the bottom. After that, new symbols fall from the top to fill the reel that fell. After all tumbles from the same spin ends, the reels reset back to 5×5 in size. If the reels reach their full potential, they will expand to 5×10.

Ante Bet

If you choose to activate the Ante Bet mode, you will double your chances of triggering the free spins bonus. This feature comes at the cost of an extra 25% on top of your current stake.

Timber Stacks Slot Bonus Features

Timber Stacks Free Spins Feature

Landing 4 or 5 of the scatter symbols in the base game will trigger the bonus round and award 8 or 20 free spins, respectively.

Free Spins Feature

During the free spins feature, the Increasing Grid Size can activate and behave as it does in the base game.

Bonus Buy

If you wish to trigger the free spins instantly, you can do so at the cost of 120x the current stake via the bonus buy option.

Pros

  • An interesting reel mechanic that can generate up to 100,000 ways to win.
  • Max win of 10,000x bet.

Cons

  • Varied RTP rates can be applied to the slot game.
  • A multiplier in the free spins feature would have made it a better game.

Timber Stacks Slot Review Final Thoughts

Well, I can finally say I have reviewed my first timber-themed online slot, if nothing else. Was it any good though? I guess the increasing grid size feature makes it a little more interesting than the standard filler slots that Pragmatic Play release, but I think it would have benefitted from having a multiplier in the free spins feature. What do you think?
