Slot Overview

Tiki Thunder is a high-volatility video slot from Slotmill, and once again, the provider is using their doubling win multiplier mechanic that’s proved so popular in the past. With a whopping maximum win potential of up to 40,000x, is Tiki Thunder any good? Or is it just a re-skinned version of Barbarossa, which we’ve seen Slotmill rely on a lot recently? Let’s find out!

Theme & Design

Tiki Thunder has a pretty distinct look and feel to it; if you’ve ever played Tiki-themed slots before, like Tiki Infinity Reels Megaways or Tiki Treasures Megaways, you’ll feel right at home! That’s not at all to imply that Slotmill has copied the game’s theme; it’s just that it fits the “Tiki” mould we’ve seen before.

Tiki Thunder is actually probably one of the more impressive-looking Tiki games, though, and you’ll see the reels set deep within a jungle, with burning torches on either side of the reels. The symbols are highly detailed and look great, and above the reels, you’ll see the increasing win multiplier; more on that shortly.

Tiki Thunder Gameplay & Bonus Features

Tiki Thunder is played on a 5×5 grid using a cluster pays system. Wins are formed by landing five or more identical symbols connected horizontally or vertically. All symbols involved in a win are then removed via the Avalanche feature, and this continues until no new wins are formed. Tiki Thunder offers betting options from €0.20 to €60, and the game runs at an RTP of 96.10%; very slightly above-average.

Now, directly above the reels you’ll notice a progressive win multipliers. Every time a cascade happens, this multiplier doubles, and continues to do so until the end of the spin, at which point it resets (in the base game.) However, after each win, a Wild symbol is also added to the reels, so it’s kind of Barbarossa-like mechanics in play here.

There are also several other modifiers that can boost the multiplier. The Lava Multiplier can cause the meter to skip directly to higher multiplier levels, while the Gold Mask feature adds one to three additional Wilds to the grid before the following cascade.

Thunder Surge can also appear, instantly pushing the multiplier forward by a random number of steps. In both the base game and the bonus round, Giant Symbols can also land, either at the start of a spin or during cascades. These come in 2×2 or 3×3 blocks.

The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 Bonus symbols, and this awards you with 8, 10, or 12 Free Spins respectively. During the bonus, the win multiplier does not reset between spins, so, again, it’s very much like Barbarossa-style games.

Interestingly, a randomly-activated Super Mode can also trigger at the start of the Free Spins. During the Super Mode, you’re guaranteed to land a Giant Symbol on every spin, making it a lot easier to form wins!

Tiki Thunder includes several optional Bonus Buy and Ante Bet-like settings. Xtra Bet can be switched on and increases your base game stake by 50%. In return, you have a much higher chance of triggering the Free Spins.

There are multiple Fast Track (Bonus Buy) options, too. You can buy 8+ Free Spins for 100x, 12 free Spins for 400x, or 12 Super Mode Free Spins for 1,000x! You can also buy a Thunder Surge Spin for 30x.

The game also offers Slotmill’s signature Burst Mode, which allows you to set up to 500 spins to play automatically in the background. You don’t see these spins playing out and only get to watch bonuses if they trigger.

Pros

  • Very high maximum win potential of 40,000x.
  • Solid-looking game with great graphics.
  • Multiple Fast Track Feature Buy options are available.

Cons

  • Very similar to many previous Slotmill multiplier-based mechanics.
  • Base game payouts are tiny without multipliers.
  • Fast Track/Burst Mode/Xtra-Bet options unavailable in some regions.

Tiki Thunder Slot Review Final Thoughts

Overall, Tiki Thunder is a polished and undeniably decent-looking entry in Slotmill’s portfolio, delivering exactly what fans of high-volatility, multiplier-driven slots are looking for.

Yes, it shares a LOT of similarities with the Barbarossa-like games, but we like how the studio has included plenty of unique modifiers like Thunder Surge, Lava Multiplier, and Giant Symbols, and this actually makes the game feel quite unique, we feel.

That said, there’s no escaping the feeling of familiarity. If you’ve played Barbarossa or other recent Slotmill releases, you’ll recognise the core mechanics almost immediately. The base game can feel fairly flat, too, and without high multipliers (32x+), big wins are very hard to come by.

However, with a maximum win potential of up to 40,000x, a Super Mode Bonus, and the ever-popular-yet-controversial Burst Mode, Tiki Thunder looks to have pretty much everything we’d want to see, and it’s a game we’d recommend based on our time spent reviewing it!
