Game Overview
I don’t know about you, but when it comes to the movies, there are certain genres that I always steer clear of, and horror is most certainly one of them. So, what would be an absolute nightmare be for me? Yes, you guessed it, reviewing a horror-themed online slot, thanks for that one editor. Okay, let’s get into the details of what we’re looking at today, and it’s the title The Wildwood Curse by Hacksaw Gaming a 6-reel game with 19 paylines, sticky wilds, and wins that can reach a maximum of 10,000x the bet,
Theme & Design
I’ve already touched upon the fact that The Wildwood Curse is a horror-based slot, but what the game really reminded me of when I was playing it was the classic film The Blair Witch Project released in 1999. Remember that? The budget movie filmed from the perspective of a camcorder where a group of friends were lost in the woods. An iconic film at the time, and one that definitley made me question any future walks in the woods. Anyway, that’s the vibe I’m getting from The Wildwood Curse, and overall, Hacksaw has done a job good in the presenation, as you’d expect from a tier-one studio.
It’s time to talk about some recomendations, and I’m going to stick with the horror niche and Hacksaw Gaming, too, as this isn’t their first rodeo in the genre. Ok, when you’re done being frightenend by today’s review, head on over to Hounds of Hell, and Rotten for another scarefest on the reels.

The Wildwood Curse Gameplay & Features
The Wildwood Curse is a 6-reel, 5-row online slot with 19 fixed paylines and an RTP of 96.30%. Players have an extensive range of bets to choose from, with staking options starting at a budget-friednly €0.10 a spin, reaching to a maximum of €100.
Right, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for, the features of the game, and I can tell you that the sticky wild is the star of the show in The Wildwood Curse, giving you a free respin each time it lands in view. Furthermore, if you form a square cluster of wilds anywhere within the playfield, one of the following modifiers will be awarded.
- Monster Cluster: The Monster Cluster spreads Multipliers to a random number of positions on the grid once the Cluster is formed. Multiple Multipliers can land on the same position and will be added together to form one Multiplier. When the Multipliers participate in a winning combination, the value of the win is multiplied by the shown value. If another Respin is triggered, the Multipliers will be removed from the grid, and The Monster Cluster will spread new Multipliers to a random number of positions during the Respin.
- This continues until the Nightmare Respins end. If more than 1 Multiplier is part of the same winning combination, their values are first added together before being applied to the win. The Monster Cluster can have the following Multiplier values: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 25x, 50x
- The Twins Cluster: The Twins Cluster will reveal a Multiplier, which is applied to that Cluster. When The Twins participate in a winning combination, the value of the win is multiplied by the shown value. If more than 1 The Twins Cluster is part of the same winning combination, their values are first added together before being applied to the win. The Twins Cluster Multiplier will double during each Nightmare Respin. The Twins Cluster starts at 2x. The new Multiplier value will be applied to the wins on that Respin. This continues until the Nightmare Respin ends.
- Psycho Cluster: The Psycho Cluster will reveal a random Multiplier, which is applied to that Cluster, on each Nightmare Respin. When The Psycho participates in a winning combination, the value of the win is multiplied by the shown value. If more than 1 The Psycho Cluster is part of the same winning combination, their values are first added together before being applied to the win. The Psycho Cluster can have the following Multiplier values: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 11x, 12x, 13x, 14x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 100x
Finally, we reach the main bonus rounds of the game, triggered when 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols land in view. These will award:
- 3 Scatter Trigger: The Swamp Free Spins – An increased chance of landing wild symbols.
- 4 Scatter Trigger: The Playground – An increased chance of landing clusters.
- 5 Scatter Trigger: No Escape – Guaranteed that at least 1 cluster will land per spin.
Bonus Buy
If you’re a player who prefers features to the base game, then you can choose from the following enhanced betting options:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Each spin is 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus – Costs 3x the base bet.
- Cursed FeatureSpins: Each spin guarantees that at least 1 cluster lands – Costs 75x the base bet.
- The Swamp Free Spins: Costs 80x the bet to trigger.
- The Playground Free Spins: Costs 300x the bet to trigger.
Pros
- Cursed wilds can help generate big pauouts.
- The base game is made more exciting as the sticky wilds and its features can also be triggered.
- Good max win and RTP combo.
Cons
- The theme won't be to the taste of all players.
- The high volatility can lead to some low paying and generally awful bonuses.
- Natural 4 and 5 scatter triggers could be hard to come by.
The Wildwood Curse Slot Review Final Thoughts
Although horror is generally a genre I tend to steer clear of in any walk of life, Hacksaw Gaming has done a superb job in their creation of The Wildwood Curse, and with sticky wilds and cursed modifers active throughout the entire gameplay, I expect this release will gain the studio a few new players and keep their exisiting fanbase happy.
