Game Overview

Being something of a dance music fan myself – I’m a former nightclub promoter, DJ, producer, label manager, recording engineer, and later, a sound and light hire business owner, so I know a thing or two about raves, I think it is fair to say! With that in mind, I couldn’t wait to hit the dancefloor down at the Nolimit City The Rave online slot… err… party. After listing my credentials so thoroughly, I’m embarrassed to say that I have to guess that the opening music is some kind of Tech House and didn’t get me in the mood to cut some shapes; therefore, I decided to check out the vitals on the slot instead.

Technically this is a 243-way slot, although I found myself with many more pay ways on several occasions due to the Nolimit City trademark splitting features. The RTP is between 96.09% and 98.37%, depending on whether you play the game normally or use one of the many bonus buy options. The maximum win from a five million round simulation was 41,500x (a bit suspicious that it was so exact, but I trust Nolimit has just rounded the figure).

The music was starting to get a bit pumping as I checked the features, and I found myself bouncing in my chair. Oh yeah, the features! The “Drop the Bass” scatter symbol can trigger two different types of the free spin round; Nolimit’s trademark xWays and XSplit are here, along with “Enhancer Cells”, Character Symbols and Double xWays Wilds – more on all these later. An xBet feature boosts your chances of hitting a bonus round, and then there are a whole bunch more features, too – check out the bonus section later because this one is jam-packed with action.

Fancy a dance? Not with me, don’t worry, I’m not on the pull – I just want you to play our free demo slot of The Rave; if you don’t, I’ll have the bouncers deal with you… Probably.

The Rave Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Paytable For The Rave Slot

Well, I think I talked a bit too much about the theme in the intro, didn’t I? Nolimit wants you to go clubbing with them in their The Rave slot game, and if you do, they might well chuck you a bundle of cash… I don’t know about you, but a night out + free money = win in my book. There’s just one problem…. This place looks to be 80% men, and the only girl worth your time looks a bit shifty, in my opinion. She does have a bow in her hair, though, and I love that. There is another chick on the dancefloor, but she’s sporting dreads and sucking on a lollipop, meaning she’s probably so wasted she will still be dancing long after the music stops ‘cos she can still hear it in her head. She might be worth buying a drink, though, hey.

Time to talk about the paytable; I tried to get the DJ’s attention to let him know that he’s been playing the same record for the last 15 minutes straight, but he’s so busy waving his hand in the air and pretending to scatch that he couldn’t hear me. I left the sound on anyway, as I’m hoping he will get in the mix when I hit a bonus round. He looks like he’s the guy at the top of the paytable anyway, and he pays 6x your stake for a full pay way of five-of-a-kind. Then we have a nonbinary clubber with a tongue piercing and angel wings paying 3x, a suspicious-looking dude who I’m sure is selling something he shouldn’t be at 2.5x, the aforementioned dreadlocked chick at 1.5x, and then the pretty girl at 1x. Nolimit, you got this backwards, man – the hot chick should pay the most! Ahhhh… what am I thinking? The hot chick is going to expect you to pay for everything. I’m surprised she doesn’t take your money, never mind pay you any.

The lower-paying symbols deserve a real quick mention because we have the DJ’s fake gold “King” necklace – the pawn shop won’t even give you €0.50 for that, so €0.90 isn’t too bad a payout. As for the red gun with “Cash is King” written on it… I sure hope that fires party streamers and not flares. Then you got some weirdo glasses if you want to look like one of those chicks who wore furry boots back in the late 1990s, some lollipops – essential if you’re going to be gurning all night – and finally a pair of pink cheapo headphones which probably explains why the DJ keeps playing the same record. Mate, get some Pioneers, for crying out loud!

Betting options can be chosen by clicking on the dollar-type symbol in the bottom-left, which takes you to a separate page with options ranging from €0.20 per spin up to €100.00 per spin. There are 25 steps between the two extremes, which is nice to see considering so many developers have a few steps at the low end then immediately jump up to the max bet in about 3 steps.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 41,500x Your Bet In The Rave Online Slot From Provider Nolimit City

So, how does this interesting little slot machine play? You’ll start your session looking at a 5×3 grid, but don’t expect it to stay that way for long! Wins are awarded for hitting matching symbols anywhere on any reel from left to right on the 243 pay ways, but don’t expect things to stay that way for long! XWays symbols will regularly drop, increasing the number of payways, whilst XSplit symbols can be even more helpful. Let’s go into these features in a bit more depth, as these modifiers turn what otherwise be a pretty standard base game into something far, far more interesting!

Xways Modifier

The XWays modifier is a classic of Nolimit City online slots, and in The Rave video slot, it will take over any reel it lands on, turning the entire strip up to a maximum of six matching symbols. The number of symbols is shown in the bottom left corner, and you will see the number of payways increase to reflect the effect of the XWays modifier.

Double Xways Wild Modifier

If two XWays symbols land on the same reel, an expanded xWays wild will be created across the entire reel instead of a regular symbol. This stacked wild can contain between six and 11 wild symbols. If by some miracle, you manage to land this one very reel, you will automatically trigger the “Busted” feature as you have just won the game’s maximum jackpot. Your night may be over, but the police will let you keep your money, so it’s time to grab that hottie chick and head to another bar – the drinks are definitely on you!

Xsplit Modifier

The XSplit works very similarly to the XWays modifier, except it splits the single symbol into multiple identical symbols instead. This will also increase the number of payways; plus, in The Rave online slot, XSplit will also split other symbols into two on the same reel, including two wild symbols. This can be very profitable, so you will see it land less often than the regular XWays modifier.

Enhancer Cells

If you land two scatter symbols but miss the third, don’t worry – The Rave is a generous and magnanimous online slot. The game will create a series of enhancer cells and fill them with either xWays, xSplit, Wild, or high-paying symbols. Not a bad consolation prize, if you ask me!

Xbet Feature

For 20% more than your regular bet, you can guarantee a single scatter symbol on the second reel. This dramatically increases your chance of hitting the enhancer cells consolation prize, or better yet, one of the full-on bonus features.

The Rave Slot Bonus Features

Trigger 3 Bonus Features On The Rave Video Slot

Lot’s to talk about here too! The main features are all triggered by the “Drop the Bass” scatter symbol. Three of these will award three enhancer cells on the bottom row plus seven free spins of “Murder on the Dance Floor”. A fourth scatter adds an additional enhancer cell plus one more free spin, whilst all five scatters will activate the premium “God is a DJ” free spin mode.

Drop The Bass Feature

This simply refers to hitting three or more scatter symbols – the music will increase in tempo, and your reward will be given as described above.

Murder On The Dancefloor Free Spins

In this mode, enhancer cells are permanently locked on the bottom row, ensuring you will get something semi-decent on every one of your seven free spins. If you are lucky, you will get lots of xWays and xSplit symbols; if you are not so fortunate, you will get wilds or high-paying character symbols. Note that character symbols feature a multiplier during these free spins, and there are also three additional modifiers which can only activate during free spins:

Mashup! – The DJ will attempt to do a double-drop… he isn’t very good at it, sadly, and he told me to do one when I offered to take over the decks. Still, he will transform all character symbols into the highest-paying symbol for you, which can work out well if you have some decent symbols in the enhancer cells on the bottom row!

Crossfader – A simple trick every DJ learns almost by accident; he nailed this one, I am pleased to say and transformed all of the low-paying symbols on screen into wilds. Things got crazy on one occasion when this feature triggered, and the music progressed through several styles as the win counter kept firing up … eventually reaching fever pitch as I scored over 500x my bet. Keep on crossfading, dude!

Sidechain – I think the DJ is a bit confused about what this means, although maybe he has a special mixer that allows him to apply sidechains to tracks on different decks. Aside from the technical misuse of the term, two to five reels will link together and land with the same set of symbols, guaranteeing a decent win … if your enhancer cells have any xSplit symbols in them, get ready for the music to go nuclear on you!

God Is A Dj Free Spins

Finally, if you hit all five scatter symbols, you’ll get five enhancer cells, ten free spins, and only xWays, Wilds, and xSplit symbols can appear in these enhancer cells. Symbol multipliers will appear on reels two, three, and four, and any xSplit symbols landing on reels two, three, or four will increase the symbol multiplier by 2x. You are also guaranteed to hit each of the special features described in the previous section at least once during this mode. I never hit this feature organically, but I was able to test it and wow, were the wins chunky, over 4,000x every time. Cross your fingers for this one – it’s a real chunky bonus round!

Bonus Buy Feature

Let’s have a quick run-through of the bonus buy features if they are available in your jurisdiction –

For 68x your stake, you can get three scatters and receive seven murder on the dancefloor spins. You can bet up to a maximum of €100 for this option.

For 140x your stake, you can up your bonus to a four scatter trigger, but interestingly Nolimit have capped the max bet here at €60.00 – I presume this is because you have a much higher chance of scoring a big win here.

Finally, for 522x your stake, you can go straight for God is a DJ – that’s a high price to pay, but in my experience, it’s worth every penny. Nolimit clearly know this as the maximum bet allowed here is just €18.00 – I’ve never seen a game that lowers the amount you can bet for the bonus buy features according to their perceived worth before, and it’s fascinating to see that the developer recognises the potential of their features so clearly here,

Oh, and for 202x your stake, you can do a lucky dip – you might end up with one of the two lower options, but you might also get the God is a DJ spins for nearly 1/3 of the normal price. Not sure I’d risk it myself, but it’s nice to have the option!

The Rave Slot Review Final Thoughts

What a game! Nolimit has captured the feel of a Rave reasonably well here, especially when you get to the special features. It’s a shame they couldn’t have the DJ mix a few more tunes as you play the base game, but it’s a minor niggle – you can always turn the music off. Seek this one out – you’ll be partying well into the night!
