Game Overview

The names of some online slots just tickle me a bit, to be honest, especially when it’s a little play on words. Today’s review of the Playtech slot The Racaroon is another example of this, and the casino game and slot developer giant packs you off to Paris with their friendly racoon in search of macarons. Yeah, see what they did there with the title? Anyway, on your travels, along with lots of sweet treats, you’ll encounter local jackpots, a hold and win bonus round, and a max win that hits 5,000x the bet.

Theme & Design

A word of warning to you before you load up The Racaroon. If you feel even remotely hungry or you’re trying your best to stick to a diet, it might be best to play something else. I get that it’s only a cartoon and it does feature a racoon, but when the backdrop for the game is a pâtisserie and there are heaps of macarons in sight, it’s still likely to get your stomach rumbling. Along with those colourful and delightful little treats packed full of calories, you’ll also be serenaded with some stereotypical French music and the occasional phrase blurted out from the raccoon, so close your eyes and you could almost be in Paris itself. Hmmm, yeah, maybe not.

If it so happens that The Racaroon has put you in the mood for more French-themed slots, then you are going to be struggling for choice, as it’s not exactly a genre bustling with options. However, we do have one game for you to try out, which is Journey to Paris from Play’n GO, but don’t have too high expectations for that, as it’s a bit meh to be honest.

The Racaroon Gameplay & Features

Playtech’s The Racaroon slot uses a 5×3 reel matrix where 40 fixed paylines are active. The game features a below-average RTP of 95.83% and offers players a minimum bet of €0.20 to a maximum of €360, although in a real-money environment that upper limit will likely be restricted to less.

There’s a little bit to discuss with regard to the features of the game, but this is far from being a complicated slot and uses mechanics you’ll have likely seen in several online slots in the past. Let’s start with the macarons above the reels; these act as the local jackpots, and when an X multiplier lands simultaneously as a macaron, their values will be added to the sweet treats above the reels, building their pot size. Next, we have the centre square, which you will see highlighted. If the raccoon lands in this position, he will collect all monetary values that land at the same time.

Now it’s time for the features in the game, and let’s start with those fixed jackpots that you can get a shot at when the big macaron to the left of the reels decides to randomly trigger. This round is a pick-me feature, and matching three symbols of any pot will award you its payout.

Last of all, we have the hold & win feature, triggered when a bonus symbol lands within the playfield. This bonus begins with 3 respins, and each time a new value hits, your spin count returns to 3. Landing all 15 symbols pays the Grand Jackpot of 5,000x, whilst hitting 3 consecutive losing spins will end the bonus. Keep a lookout for the pick-me feature too, as this can trigger during the free spins.

Bonus Buy

Playtech has included a feature buy option in The Racaroon, giving you immediate access to the hold & spin bonus. You can select multiplier for this bonus, giving you purchase options of 20x up to 122.5x.

Pros

  • Pot sizes can be built up in the base game.
  • Low bonus buy entry of 20x.
  • It has two bonus rounds.

Cons

  • Below-average RTP.
  • Hitting that 5k jackpot is going to be rare.
  • Likes to give the low value pots in the pick-me round.

The Racaroon Slot Review Final Thoughts

The Racaroon might have a pretty quirky theme, but it's not going to be winning any awards for the originality of its features, that's for sure. Don't get me wrong; it is good that there are two bonus rounds in the slot, but I've seen so many games use this kind of setupsince 2024 that it became boring a long time ago.

My apologies if these games are your kind of thing, but I'm really ready for a bit of a change, as 2025 especially has been very heavy on these styles of games. Give the demo a try anyway and see what you think.
