Game Overview
I’m not entirely sure if some of the elements of Peter & Sons slot title The Legend of Musashi are Chinese or Japanese – I’m veering towards the latter if I’m honest, but I guess the safe option is to say that this is another Far Eastern-themed game with an especially quirky symbol set full of strange-looking character symbols along with weapons, lanterns, fans, and the like. The maximum win is an attractive 20,00x your bet, but to reach such heights, you will need to land yourself a huge number of winning pay ways out of the game’s maximum of 4,096, as well as overcoming the slightly higher-than-average 96.1% RTP.
The overview of this game presented on the paytable mentions cascading wins, monster multipliers, expanding wilds, two free spin modes, and a so-called “Power Mode”, which we’ll be exploring in depth shortly. The paytable also mentions a couple of bonus buy options that I wasn’t able to spot in the main user interface – I tried from a couple of different countries without success, so I’m not sure whether this is a bug, something that is about to be updated, or something else. Peter & Sons usually include a bonus buy facility in their games, however, so I feel certain that it will appear in the release build of the game.

The Legend Of Musashi Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I reckon we’re going with Japan as the location of this game, which is a slightly tricky theme to discuss. Why? The Far East is a popular idea behind dozens or even hundreds of games, but Japan and its unique culture have relatively poor representation within this genre. This is surprising given the huge number of amazing cultural phenomena exclusive to Japan – Anime, Shinto, Pachinko, Sumo, Tatami, and the list goes on… there is so much to choose from! The only game that springs to mind with a similar theme to this one is Jade Shuriken, so come on, slot developers – give us some more games based on Japan’s amazing and unique culture that doesn’t just cover the popular samurai theme as found in Pragmatic Play’s Samurai Code and Push Gaming’s Samurai’s Katana.
I can’t give you a full breakdown of the paytable in The Legend of Musashi as the developer hasn’t filled in all of the information pages within the game at this time. I’ve been assured that the slot is feature-complete, however, so I’ll do my best to give a rough idea of what you can expect in terms of payouts. The highest paying symbols are the super strange-looking characters with a border around them, followed by the weapons, which include traditional Japanese items such as Nunchuk and Katana. The four playing card suits represent the low-paying symbols, which feels a little bit lazy, but let’s be honest here – almost every developer uses royals or suits for the low-paying symbols in their games, so I really can’t criticise Peter & Sons for this.
As for the betting range, clicking on your current bet will open a new window with 14 different wager options. The minimum bet is €0.20, while the maximum is €50.00. It would be nice if Peter & Sons included a few more options here – if you would like to bet more than €5.00 per spin, the size of the interval between bet sizes could be a problem for you here.
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular gameplay in The Legend of Musashi takes place on a six-reel layout with four rows per reel. The game uses payways instead of paylines, meaning you only need to match up symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left to bag yourself a win.
The 6×4 playfield means that there are 4,096 payways in this game, which also uses cascading reels. This means that any winning combinations are immediately removed from the grid to allow new symbols to drop into place from the top of the screen.
Power Mode
The scatter symbols in The Legend of Musashi work differently than in most other online slots. The game will keep track of every scatter symbol that lands on the reels, and after you have collected 65 of these symbols, you will be rewarded with the “Power Mode” feature.
You will be awarded a random number of lives, anywhere from three to ten, and you will lose a life every time a wild symbol lands on the screen. Don’t worry, though – each of these life-depleting wild symbols will transform into a full-height stacked wild, which makes Power Mode one of the most profitable parts of the game.
Monster Multiplier
During the base game and monster free spins, you will start each spin with a 1x multiplier. This multiplier increases by one every time a winning combination lands on the reels, and there is no limit to how high the monster multiplier can get.
The multiplier does not reset between spins during the super free spin mode. This makes reaching higher multipliers much easier, but getting the super free spins mode can be extremely difficult unless you opt to use the bonus buy facility.
The Legend Of Musashi Slot Bonus Features
You will need to hit at least three scatter symbols to win yourself some monster free spins. A three-scatter trigger will award the default 10 free spins, whilst four, five, or six scatters will grant you 12, 14, or 16 free spins, respectively.
Monster Free Spins
During the monster free spin mode, all wild symbols that land in view will transform into expanding wilds, much like the power mode feature available in the base game. If any scatter symbols happen to land whilst you are playing the monster free spins, the game will add one additional spin to your remaining counter and increase the current multiplier value by one.
Super Free Spins
The normal monster free spin mode is reasonable fun, but the super free spins feature is where you can really boost your winnings to exceptional levels. This is because the monster multiplier does not reset between spins when playing this mode, making it much easier to reach a high multiplier value.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to hit the super free spins during normal play. If you have access to the bonus buy facility, I would definitely use that function if you wanted to access this part of the game.
Bonus Buy
The bonus buy menu includes three options – you can purchase the regular “Monster” free spins, the super free spins, or a bunch of additional scatters that immediately trigger the power mode.
Pros

- Asian-themed slots are not to the taste of all slot players.
The Legend of Musashi Slot Review Final Thoughts
The Asian slot niche is a tough nut to crack, but with the unique design and gameplay Peter & Sons create, The Legend of Musashi is a gallant effort and a game I'd recommend you try a few spins on at the very least.
