Slot Overview

The Great Banker is yet another instalment in Push Gaming’s “Fat Banker” series, and here, you’ll find deeper mechanics, expanding reels, layered bonuses and features, and more. With a maximum win potential of 10,317x, does this new part of the series do enough to grab attention and convince new and old players alike to play? The Demoslot team finds out.

Theme & Design

The Great Banker is set on “Banker Street”, a polished urban background that’s framed by tall buildings and a crisp white bank that dominates the right-hand side of the screen. The theme leans into an exaggerated wealthy side of things, but Push Gaming has done a fairly good job with it, we feel. And, of course, once again, you’ll see the banker presented as a larger-than-life character, cigar in hand, and showing a huge degree of confidence!

Now, if you’re already familiar with Fat Banker, then The Great Banker should be an easy visual move, but the lower maximum win potential (bizarre, by the way, for a sequel) may deter those who’re already comfortable with the original. It also shares some similarities with Fat Rabbit, which, of course, was the original original “Fat” game.

The Great Banker Gameplay & Bonus Features

The Great Banker uses a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 20 fixed paylines, paying left to right from the first reel. You can bet from €0.10 to €100 per spin, and the game is designed around a slightly above-average RTP of 96.31%.

In keeping with pretty much every other slot released today (haven’t you studios had enough yet?) The Great Banker focuses heavily on Coins, and these can land with values of between 0.1x and 90x. The Banker symbol, which appears only on reel five, acts as a collector. When it lands alongside one or more Coins, all visible Coin values are collected and paid instantly.

Collected Coins also feed into the Wheel Feature, which can trigger at random. The wheel can award Jackpot prizes, doubled Jackpot prizes, or various Free Spins triggers. Four Jackpots are available: Mini, worth 10x, Minor, worth 50x, Major, worth 250x, and Mega, worth 1,000x.

Free Spins are triggered by landing three or more Scatters, and you then begin with three resetting spins. Depending on whether you landed 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols, the grid begins at 5×3, 5×4, or 5×5, and it can expand up to 5×7 through a row-unlocking mechanic. During the Free Spins, only special symbols appear: Coins, Jackpots, Bankers, Multipliers, enhanced “Great” versions of these symbols, Safes, and Blanks.

Coins and Jackpots collected during the feature contribute towards unlocking additional rows. Banker and Multiplier symbols apply collection or multiplication effects either within a 3×3 area or across all unlocked rows if the enhanced version appears. Multiplier values range from 2x to 4x, and Safe symbols can fully re-trigger the feature once it ends.

Now, if you trigger the Free Spins from the Jackpot Wheel, there are two additional types of bonus that can be awarded: The Great Banker Free Spins and Fat Money Free Spins. Both follow the same general format, with The Great Banker Free Spins guaranteeing the Great Banker symbol lands on the unlocked rows, while the Fat Money Free Spins ensure Coin symbols have a minimum value of 5x.

Pros

  • Win up to 10,317x.
  • Four localised jackpots to be won.
  • Balanced medium variance maths model.

Cons

  • Feels VERY poor compared to previous “Fat” games.
  • Max win potential is more than half that of the original Fat Banker.
  • No Bonus Buy/Ante Bet options.

The Great Banker Slot Review Final Thoughts

The Great Banker had all the potential and build-up to be an excellent slot; Fat Rabbit/Banker are both iconic Push Gaming releases, both have a huge fan base, and they’re genuinely great fun to play. Why, then, Push Gaming chose to lean into the most overrated, boring, and generic mechanic currently in online slots: low localised jackpots and boring Hold & Win bonuses, is simply beyond us.

Yes, there’s some entertainment value in the game, as the Coin collections and Wheel triggers do appear fairly frequently, but beyond that, this just feels like Push Gaming wanting to keep up with industry trends rather than produce a game that’s actually any good.

The Great Banker also breaks one of (our) cardinal rules for slots sequels: don’t release a sequel with a lower maximum win potential than the original. It just makes zero sense, and sure, we’re sure there will be some players who enjoy this, but for us? It’s definitely not one we’d recommend.
