Slot Overview
The Big Dog House is a new release from Pragmatic Play, and this high-variance 5×3 game builds on the ever-familiar dog house formula, bringing back sticky multiplier wilds with larger wild formats, a free spins feature, and a max win of up to 15,000x your bet. This is a series Pragmatic has been milking, and they’ve had some disappointing spin-offs in the past, but could The Big Dog House put those criticisms to bed? Let’s find out
Gameplay & Bonus Features
The Big Dog House uses a five-reel, three-row layout with 20 fixed paylines. The RTP is set at 96.53%, which isn’t too bad. You can bet from €0.20 to €100 per spin, and the game’s core mechanic is the Wilds. Now, unlike the original Dog House, The Big Dog House offers some different wild sizes. You can land normal wilds alongside Stretch Wilds and Mega Wilds, and both types can carry a 2x or 3x multiplier.
Stretch Wilds take up 3 positions on a single reel, while Mega Wilds occupy a full 3×3 area, and both types can only land on reels 2, 3 and 4. Now, the free spins bonus is where things get more interesting, and it comes in a few different variants depending on which bonus symbols trigger it. The standard version requires 3 regular Bonus symbols, and this plays out as a fairly conventional free spins round.
If the Biggie Bonus symbol is part of the triggering combination, you get the Biggie modifier, which means wilds will only appear in their stacked versions during the feature, and this means that every wild that lands is either a Stretch or Mega Wild.
There’s also a Ghost Out modifier, triggered when the Ghost Out Bonus symbol is part of the triggering combination. In this feature, you’re introduced to Ghost Wilds, wilds that remove any sticky wilds currently on the grid. If both the Biggie and Ghost Out modifiers are active at the same time, the Ghost Wild is removed from the 5th reel, which stops the two mechanics from completely cancelling each other out, too.

Theme & Design
From a visual point of view, The Big Dog House looks pretty much identical to the original Dog House from Pragmatic Play. The reels themselves are set within a dog kennel in a lush green outdoor setting, and in the background you can see a clear blue sky, fluffy white clouds, and some American-style wooden houses.
On the left-hand side of the reels, you will see a buy features button, a super bet button, and an ante bet button. But aside from that, pretty much everything is the same. So, if you were expecting something different or wanted to see more creativity than we saw in, say, The Dog House Dog or Alive or The Dog House Royal Hunt, you may be disappointed if you set your expectations too high!
Pros
- Solid maximum win potential of 15,000x
- Unique Mega and Stretch Wilds
- Three different types of free spins
Cons
- The concept is still very much like the original
- Pretty hard to get anything over 12-14 free games
- Base game payouts are small without multiplier wilds
Final Thoughts
The Big Dog House is another entry in a series that Pragmatic Play clearly isn't ready to retire. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it does, we feel, do just enough with new mechanics to justify its release.
The Stretch and Mega Wilds are a genuinely good addition to the classic Dog House setup, and we like how there’s a massive maximum win potential of 15,000x, too; one of our big complaints with many recent spinoffs is that providers are, for some reason, capping the max win really low.
Yes, the game looks pretty much identical to the original Dog House slot, so if you're looking for something entirely new, you may find yourself disappointed. Overall, however, it's a pretty nifty little release from Pragmatic Play, and it's a game we're actually looking forward to trying out ourselves. It's quite exciting to see whether you can hit enough wilds in the right combos.
