Game Overview
If you were a teenager in 1984 or 1991, then you were a fan of James Cameron’s epic Terminator movies. No question. Later generations are sometimes criticized for having it too easy, but hey, have you sat through 128 minutes of Terminator: Dark Fate? Jokes aside, Microgaming’s Terminator 2 slot features 243-ways to win and is based on, arguably, the best movie in the franchise. The maximum win is 2,952x your stake, and the RTP is above average at 96.62%.
The Terminator 2 slot game has just been fully remastered in HTML5 as a result of the death of the Adobe Flash platform but has lost nothing in the transformation. The T-800 Vision feature awards instant cash prizes as well as occasionally triggering an instant bonus round, whilst the free spins feature adds a T-1000 transforming symbol and expands the play area too creating an enormous 1,024 ways to win!
Our review tells you everything you need to know about the game, but if you’re eager to learn even more, Microgaming has also recently added it back to its site following the HTML5 revamp. You can also try the Terminator 2 demo slot on our website with an unlimited bankroll.
Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

For us, it’s hard not to feel pangs of nostalgia when spinning the Terminator 2 slot for the first time. There have been other movie-themed slots based on iconic 90s films, including smash hits such as Jurassic Park and Top Gun, but somehow, T2 just seems to have the edge over all of them. It’s hard to put your finger on why Terminator 2 has the amazing charm it does, considering its run-of-the-mill 5×3 reel layout. The unique scale used in the soundtrack certainly helps, as does the near-perfect mix of futuristic yet industrial artwork that adorns this slot’s graphical elements.
Let’s talk about the paytable – the scatter is the highest paying symbol in this game, delivering 100x your stake for five-of-a-kind. Unfortunately, things taper off rapidly from there, with even four-of-a-kind paying just 10x your stake. The wild is similar – 50x your stake for five, but just 10x for four. As for the picture for symbols, Arnie in human form pays the most at around 27x your stake for five-of-a-kind, but in all honesty, there isn’t anything to write home about here. That’s the nature of 243-way games in general, to be honest – because you can win on a hundred or more lines at once, the individual payouts tend to be lower than, say, a nine-line slot.
Being a medium-variance game, it’s surprising that the betting spread is so low in T2. I wondered if this was just a quirk of the demo slot mode, but after verifying at two real-money casinos, I can confirm that the minimum stake is €0.30, and the maximum is set at €30.00.
Base Game & Modifiers

As you might have guessed from our description of the paytable, the Terminator 2 online slot is another game where you are going to be spending most of your playtime hoping to hit the scatters and enter the bonus round, which is where the big money lies. The T-800 vision modifier is one saving grace, however, which keeps the bonus game from being entirely predictable.
While writing this review, I came across a few reviews that were written upon the game’s original release, a couple of which suggested that the variance in the Terminator 2 video slot has been toned down significantly when it was converted to HTML5. Unfortunately, I could not confirm the claims made in these reviews, but they both claimed that the five scatter payoff used to be 1,500x your stake. It would be interesting to find a screenshot of the paytable before conversion, but at this time, we can confirm with certainty that five scatters return 100x your current stake.
T-800 Vision Feature
This modifier can activate after any losing spin during the base game only and will randomly seek through the layout, revealing a hidden cash prize for each of the picture symbols in view. Occasionally, the T-800 will find a scatter symbol instead of cash, and when this happens, the free spins bonus will be triggered immediately.
Terminator 2 Slot Free Spin Feature

Three or more of the electric-orb scatter symbols will trigger a ten free spins bonus round, with the added twist that the reels will extend vertically before the start of the feature. This increases the number of payways from 243 to 1,024. It’s a shame that the T-800 Vision feature does not activate during free spins, as that would have been extremely lucrative due to the higher number of picture symbols that could potentially be in view.
Still, the free spins bonus does have a unique trick of its own to reveal…
T-1000 Transformation Feature
Those who are unfamiliar with the movie might look at Robert Patrick’s face and wonder why he is labelled as the superior Terminator – comparing his picture in the Terminator 2 slot game to that of the T-800, you could forgive anybody unfamiliar with the Terminator franchise for believing the T-800 to be the scarier, more powerful monster.
Of course, anybody familiar with the Terminator 2 movie knows that Robert Patrick is a shapeshifting machine who only appears human. This aspect of his character is perfectly represented in the Terminator 2 slot during the bonus round, as every time he appears on the reels, he transforms into whichever alternative character symbol will result in the biggest win for the player.
Pros
- Based on one of the most iconic movies of all time.
- Above average RTP.
- Interesting features and gameplay.
Cons
- If you don't like the movies, you won't like the game.
- The max win could have been higher.
Terminator 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
We’re intrigued by the possibility that the Terminator 2 slot used to be a much higher-variance game, but it works well just as it is. We can’t help but suspect that one of these other reviewers simply got it wrong, and the second source copied the first without doing their research—you might be surprised how often this kind of thing occurs!
What more can we say? It's a fun game with great winning potential and medium variance, which means you should get plenty of time for your money. Terminator 2 is a winner, and should there be time for a very last thought, I think we all know what it should be:
Hasta la vista…. Baby!
