Game Overview
When a slots developer likes to call themselves “Four Leaf Gaming”, personally, I’d like to see them have every spin result in five four-leaf clovers on every pay line, each paying 10,000x my bet. I’m sure that can be squeezed into… well, they might need a bit more than average RTP, I guess, say… 96.2%? That should cover it, I reckon! Sadly, not only does Temple of Fury Dream Drop not feature any four-leaf clovers, but its RTP of just 94.1% falls far short of my hopes too – don’t panic though, Four Leaf Gaming aren’t having our pants down here – this machine is linked to Relax’s awesome Dream Drop Progressive Jackpots, making its super spinner maximum payout of 5,000x the player’s stake somewhat redundant. This is another game to use the new connected payways mechanic, which Four Leaf have dubbed contiguous pay ways on this occasion. There are 99 of these available as standard, increasing to 178 when the additional row is unlocked.
The base game includes four so-called ‘fury features’ – these are modifiers which may choose to unlock the top row for you, expand wild symbols into stacks, upgrade lower-paying symbols, or even offer a free second spin if your initial symbol drop turns out to be something of a duffer. The Dream Drop jackpot can be triggered randomly before any base game spin – the odds of this occurring are directly linked to the size of your wager. Fortune coins are another unique feature of the game – collecting these special symbols can instantly activate the super spinner, but will often be collected for later use… how? Think of them as a kind of bonus buy facility with an added twist – more on that later. Finally, a Nitro Spins bonus bet facility can be enabled for 50% more per spin but will guarantee several benefits, including at least one modifier per feature.
So, are you ready to enter the world’s most dangerous temple… to ever feature in an online slot? Lace up your boots, my friends, as you’ll want to be at your best when exploring our free demo slot of Temple of Fury – available to play below.
Temple Of Fury Dream Drop Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The last Four Leaf Gaming title I reviewed was their Dueling Jokers machine, and I was quite surprised by just how many of the same features the developer had included in this release. Whilst the two games sport wildly different visual styles, the feature set seems to have been mostly ported directly over – for example, the Fortune Coins, Nitro Meter, and Dream Drop Jackpot Games are largely identical to those featured in Dueling Jokers. I should also add that this isn’t necessarily a terrible thing – we scored that game 9/10 here at Demoslot and called it one of the games of the year so far, so I think Four Leaf Gaming is on pretty solid ground in porting their best features across to this new release!
There are just four high-paying symbols on the paytable though, but on the plus side, they are at least arranged in stacks which makes it possible to win on large numbers of those ‘contiguous’ paylines simultaneously – see the next section for an explanation of how that payout mechanic works, by the way. The purple shield offers a maximum payout of 10x the bet for a full payway of five of a kind, whilst the red shield offers 5x for all five symbols, and a complete payway of the yellows drops this further to just 3x in total. The final blue ‘high-paying’ symbol offers just 2x the total bet for a five of a kind combination, making high-paying a bit of a stretch if we’re honest! As for the low pays, these are represented by a series of ornate coins which feature 1.2x payouts for the aces and kings or 1x for the queens and jacks.
The betting range is adequately wide – minimum/maximum permitted bets of €0.10 and €100.00 per spin, respectively, are perfectly fine, but high rollers are near-certain to be frustrated by the lack of options towards the upper end of the range. This is a common issue nowadays though, so I guess we just have to get used to it if we want to play these high-quality new slots.
Base Game & Modifiers
In Temple of Fury, wins are awarded for any connected payway – a connected payway (or contiguous pay way in Four Leaf parlance) means any set of symbols on adjacent reels which are linked either horizontally or corner to corner. This results in a total of 99 possible ways to win on the standard 5×3 reel setup or 178 payways on the expanded 5×4 reel setup available via the modifier detailed below.
Just before we get to that, the gameplay has one other important aspect to it – all winning combinations that land on the playfield will lock into place immediately, and a free re-spin will then be awarded, allowing you to potentially add more winning symbols to your combination. A typical round seems to last several spins, in my experience, but if the symbols locked in place are of the lower value variety, it can be a little bit tedious watching things play out, knowing you can only win 1x your bet for every winning pay way!
Fury Features
On each spin, one of any four features can be randomly activated – you can also enable the bonus bet to guarantee one of these to trigger on every single spin:
- Extra Row: the top row will be unlocked, increasing the pay way count from 99 to 178.
- Expand Wilds: Any wild that lands during the current round will expand to cover the entire reel.
- Symbol upgrade: One of the four low-paying symbols will be chosen to be upgraded to its high-paying counterpart.
- Extra Life: An additional free spin will be awarded automatically if the current round does not result in any winning pay ways.
Fortune Coins
Any time a coin is collected, the super spinner wheel displayed around the edges of the playfield may activate, awarding a set of free spins, more bonus coins, or a cash prize.
Nitro Spin Bonus Bet
Activating the nitro spins bonus bet option will increase the cost of every free spin by 50%, as well as altering the game’s RTP to 94.15%. If fortune coins are used to activate the feature, this can modify the RTP from 93.86% to 93.90% – yes, using them is actually a worse deal than not using them. How strange!
Temple Of Fury Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features
No traditional scatter symbols are included in Temple of Fury – instead, you can activate the super spinner randomly by collecting a coin during regular play.
Super Spinner
The super spinner contains several cash prizes – strangely, some of them listed in the table don’t match those shown in the graphic of the wheel. I have to presume that the graphic is correct though, meaning you can win between 60x and 5,000x your total bet or between 5 and 25 free spins.
Lock’n’ Win
Landing six or more bonus symbols during a single game round will activate the game’s Lock & Win feature, as well as adding them to your progress bar. Three re-spins are awarded, and all symbols except the bonus symbol are removed from the reel set. Every time a bonus symbol lands, your re-spin count is reset to three. The feature ends when your re-spin count expires or the entire playfield is filled with bonus symbols.
The Lock’N’Win reels do contain a couple of power-ups as well – the Lock’N’Win multiplier upgrade symbol will instantly multiply all on-screen cash values by up to 10x their original value, whilst the magic prize upgrade power-up will increase the value of all magic prizes by one-tier.
Jackpot Spin
Before any base game spin, the jackpot feature may randomly activate – the odds of this occurring are directly tied to the size of your bet, so you might want to consider betting more than normal when playing this game.
The seed values for the five Dream Drop jackpots are identical to other Relax and Four Leaf slots, as follows:
- RAPID = 1x Bet
- MIDI = 5x Bet
- MAXI = 100x Bet
- MAJOR = 25,000x Bet
- MEGA = 500,000x Bet
Pros
- Dream Drop Jackpots are big enough to make any worries about paying 2% of your RTP a thing of the past!
- A whole bunch of features that can be activated and triggered.
Cons
- Not quite up to the standard of duelling jokers – a few features have been removed, such as the fortune maker, which was a great little pachinko-style game.
Final Thoughts
If you like progressive jackpot slots, the Relax Gaming Dream Drop series is one of the best ways to experience this type of machine. However, Four Leaf Gaming’s entry into the genre, Temple of Fury, isn't one of the best examples of the mechanic out there, and it's certainly not a game I'll be playing again after this review.
