Slot Overview
Temple of Akhet is a new Thunderkick release that’s designed around a 6×5 ancient Egyptian theme, and it features a unique “occurrence pays” mechanic, cascading reels, sticky respins, and an increasing multiplier ladder! With a maximum win potential of 10,000x, it looks fairly solid, although Thunderkick’s (now standard) RTP of 94.19% is a little on the low side. Is the game any good? Is it worth playing? Let’s find out.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Temple of Akhet uses a 6×5 reel layout with occurrence pays rather than traditional paylines or ways-to-win systems. Wins are formed when 8 or more matching symbols land anywhere on the grid, so this is, basically, a fancy way of saying scatter pays. A cascading symbols mechanic is in play here, so winning symbols disappear before new ones drop down to take their place, and the game’s RTP is set at 94.19%.
Now, the game is built around two primary wilds: the Golden Scarab Wild and the Sun Disc Wild. Any time the Golden Scarab Wilds land, they trigger the Sticky Respin feature (when they form part of a win). Once triggered, all winning symbols + any scatter symbols are locked in place, and the remaining grid positions then re-spin, with any new scatter symbols or winning symbols also locking in place. This process continues until you fill the grid or until no new winning/scatter symbols land.
The other wild contributes to the multiplier ladder, which always begins at 1x. Any time you form a win in the base game, before the next cascade, the ladder increases by +1x, and when the Sun Disc Wild lands, it can push the multiplier ladder further. This multiplier then resets between spins.
The bonus round is triggered by landing 4 or more scatter symbols, and doing so awards 12 free spins, with +2 more for each additional scatter. During the bonus round, landing 3 scatters awards 5 extra free spins, plus another 2 for each extra scatter beyond that. Inside the feature, the multiplier ladder gets a safety level, which means that once it reaches this safety level, it doesn’t reset.

Theme & Design
The Temple of Akhet looks exactly like what the title suggests: pyramids, scarabs, ankhs, sun discs, gemstones, and pharaoh symbols, so it’s not the most unique theme in the world, but it is well presented, at least. The reels themselves are positioned between two marble columns, and there are shimmering yellow hues in the distance, making you feel like it’s early morning when the sun is still rising.
It has that familiar Thunderkick look and feel to it, so if you enjoyed some of their other recent releases like Alice Time Rift and Tutan Kha-Boom, you’ll recognise some of the design quirks here.
Pros
- Win up to 10,000x
- Decent little Sticky Respins mechanic in the base game
- Multiplier safety levels work well in the bonus round
Cons
- 94.19% RTP is below-average
- Theme and visuals feel very familiar
- Base game can be quite boring unless features connect
Final Thoughts
Temple of Akhet may not look like the best game in the world, but for us, it’s quite an interesting one. Yes, the game’s RTP of 94.19% is below average, and this may turn some players off; however, we’re big suckers for sticky base game respin mechanics, and Temple of Akhet does a solid job of making that mechanic work, so the base game doesn’t feel boring.
In volatility terms, Temple of Akhet feels like a feature-led slot where momentum between spins/features matters quite a lot. During our testing, the best wins came when avalanches, sticky locks, and multiplier jumps all connect inside the same round. Of course, a lot of the game’s 10,000x maximum win potential is found inside the bonus round, but it’s possible to see in the base game too with the right setup.
The theme may not be the most original in the world (far from it), but Thunderkick has pulled it off well, and if you’re looking for something new to try this month, then Temple of Akhet could be worth a look; it’s fun, fast-paced, and the base game feels weirdly lucrative, at least when the Respin feature is landing!
