Game Overview
The original Sweet Alchemy online slot by Play’N’Go has been used as the subject of a bucketload of slot tournaments that I have participated in during the last two or three years, so I’ve probably got more experience with it than I’d care to admit! Despite this, I still can’t say that I am particularly excited for Sweet Alchemy 2 – the first game didn’t have much in the way of big win potential, and I wasn’t overly impressed with its feature set either. Nevertheless, let’s keep an open mind – Play’N’Go is a great developer, after all, and a sequel gives them a chance to write their wrongs! Let’s start with the vital statistics – this is another grid slot, with the largest wins reserved for clusters of 20 or more adjacent matching symbols. The top win has been boosted up to 10,000x total stake – more than three times what was available in the original – and the RTP of 96.4% is also much better.
So far, so good then for Sweet Alchemy 2 – but how about the features? The new gobstopper wild is a giant symbol that can appear with up to five lives and will not be removed from the playfield until all of its lives have been used up by featuring as part of a winning combination. The striped wilds from the ‘Mix the Elixir’ feature of the original make an appearance in the base game this time around and will eliminate their entire row and column of symbols when they are removed from the reels. The main free spin bonus round is triggered by destroying all visible chocolate blocks, awarding four free spins with giant 2×2 mega symbols.
Fans of the original Sweet Alchemy online slot will no doubt be eager to check this one out – we have a free demo slot of Sweet Alchemy 2 available to play below:
Sweet Alchemy 2 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Wikipedia describes alchemy as a proto-scientific tradition, but that description refers to the original Eastern meaning of an attempt to purify, mature, or perfect certain materials. The more common Western definition refers to making gold or other precious materials out of base metals – most commonly, turning lead into gold. I think most of us would agree that this is nothing more than pseudo-science, and even that is surely pushing it! Now, as for sweet alchemy, that sounds much more up my street! Slot developers clearly agree with me too – why else would they create games such as Sweet Bonanza and Candyways Bonanza 2 Megaways? I’m not sure they would have much luck turning chocolate into gold though.
The highest-paying symbol in Sweet Alchemy 2 is a star-shaped sweet treat, which can award up to 250x the total bet for a maximum cluster of 20 or more adjacent symbols. Smaller clusters of 15+ or 12+ symbols will award 100x or 50x your bet, respectively, and I’ll give the same figures for each item on the paytable. The red heart-shaped candy takes the second-place spot, offering 200x/80x/40x for 20/15/12 symbol clusters respectively, followed by the pink teardrops with returns of 150x/60x/30x. The final high-paying symbol is a dark red circular sweet with payouts of 125x/50x/25x. The low-paying symbols are also made up of sweets – no dull royal symbols to be found here! The most valuable item in this section of the paytable is the light blue square, offering up 100x/40x/20x, whilst a similarly coloured circular sweet is the least generous of the bunch with returns of 50x/20x/10x. I’m not sure why Play’N’Go couldn’t have used a few more colours to differentiate these symbols – perhaps they thought green sweets didn’t look very appetising?!
The minimum/maximum wagers permitted in Sweet Alchemy 2 are €0.10 and €100.00, respectively. There are plenty of options for low rollers towards the bottom end of this range, but those with larger bankrolls may be disappointed by the limited number of bet levels available towards the upper limit.
Base Game & Modifiers
When you first begin to play Sweet Alchemy 2, the 5×5 array of symbols appears identical to the one offered up in the original game. Don’t be fooled, though – this time around, the 5×5 grid of symbols you can see is only there to whet your appetite!
Around the edge of the reels, you will see a 3×3 layer of chocolate blocks. Exploding winning combinations on positions adjacent to these blocks will remove them from the reels, allowing additional symbols to drop into play from the top of the screen. When all chocolate blocks have been removed, you are left with a much larger 9×9 playfield.
To score a win, you’ll need to gather at least four matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically in a cluster. Larger clusters mean larger prizes, with the biggest wins reserved for huge clusters of 20 or more matching symbols.
Chocolate Blocks
When winning symbols are removed from the reels, an equal number of chocolate blocks are destroyed from around the edges of the playfield. This makes the grid grow with each consecutive win. Any removed chocolate blocks are replaced before the start of the next round.
Gobstopper Wild
These special circular symbols have a number in the bottom-right corner, revealing the number of lives. When a gobstopper wild forms part of a winning combination, its life count will be reduced by one. When a gobstopper has no more lives, it will be removed as part of the next symbol removal phase.
Sweet Alchemy 2 Slot Bonus Features
If you can manage to eliminate all of the chocolate blocks that surround the reel set during a single game round, you will be awarded four free spins. Let’s look at how that bonus round works in the next section.
Free Spins
This bonus round begins with just four free spins, but you can win additional free spins by destroying all of the chocolate blocks for a second time whilst the free spins feature is active. To make this a little easier, the developer has added giant 2×2 symbols, at least one of which is guaranteed to land during every free spin.
When the free spins feature is re-triggered, another four free spins will be added to your remaining counter, and the giant symbols will increase in size. The bonus can be re-triggered up to two times for a total of 12 free spins with giant symbols that reach a maximum size of 4×4 positions.
Bonus Game
Keep an eye on the ‘bonus’ window in the bottom-left corner while the free spins feature is active! If you complete the orders shown here, a secondary bonus game will be triggered.
The bonus game works in tandem with the free spins by adding a multiplier of up to 25x to the winnings that you achieve. The more orders you fill, the more wheel spins you accumulate, giving you the best chance to hit the top multiplier of 25x.
Sweet Alchemy 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
Wow, this is a huge improvement on the original Sweet Alchemy online slot! I’ve always felt a bit put out at having to play that game as part of my regular slot tournament entertainment, but I won’t have any complaints if they replace the first game with this one. Top marks, Play’N’Go!
