Pragmatic Play states that this is a high volatility game, which seems like a stretch considering that the top win is just 5,000x, and no real bonus rounds are included here. I spent some time spinning the reels looking for signs of anything I might be missing, but it seems this is a classic slot with all of the action centred around the base game.

Striking Hot 5 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

There’s not much to talk about as far as the theme is concerned – if you have played one fruit-themed game, then you have played them all, and the addition of a dollar-shaped scatter symbol, and a lucky seven highest-paying jackpot prize doesn’t do much to change that. Games such as Fruit Shop by NetEnt or Burning Hot have done all of this before. However, I must say that I prefer the presentation of Pragmatic Play’s effort here – it looks great, the animation is smooth, and even the music didn’t drive me too crazy despite being on quite a short loop. I think that’s about as much as you can hope for from a game like this, don’t you?

Over to the paytable, the lucky seven symbol sits at the top of the tree with a return of 1,000x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. Keep in mind that there are just five pay lines, so don’t expect to see any of these full pay lines showing up especially frequently! The numbers go a little bit strange after this – the orange and apple symbols both pay 104x your bet for all five (I wonder why they didn’t just go for 100x?!) whilst the grapes, cherries, lemon, and watermelon all have the same return as well at 44x your bet. The scatter symbol pays in any position and has a return of 50x stake for five-of-a-kind, but there is no bonus round attached to it, unfortunately.

Stake selection is achieved using the two buttons on either side of the spin button. These are labelled plus and minus, but clicking on either will open a secondary window where you can also choose to change the coin value and number of coins you wish to bet per spin. I always wonder why Pragmatic Play deems this necessary when you can simply use the two button controls to accomplish the same thing. Regardless, the minimum bet is €0.10 whilst the maximum is €100.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

The base game takes place on a standard 5×3 reel set filled with huge, detailed symbols that look great regardless of the device you choose to play the game on. Wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols on a pay line from left to right, except the watermelon, which also pays a small 1x prize for hitting just two.

Unfortunately, there is no base game modifiers game in this slot, so if you don’t enjoy the base, you may want to look elsewhere for your slotting kicks.

Likewise, there are no actual bonus features in the Striking Hot 5 online slot, so this is a game for the old-school slots fans only. With this in mind, I can see many players becoming bored of this game very quickly, although there is a positive side in that all of the game’s RTP is allocated to the base game, meaning that the hits there are as big as they possibly can be.

A short review this time, as there isn’t much else to discuss – if you enjoy classic slots, this five-reel variant is a tad more interesting than the three-reel games that are much more common in this subgenre. It’s not for me, but I know some players out there will get a kick out of Striking Hot 5.
