We all have our ideas of what the future might look like, and more often than not it’s filled with robots and high-end technology that look to make things for us mere mortals a whole lot easier. However, that’s not always the case, and today Hacksaw Gaming are taking a different approach with a steampunk theme in their Steamrunners slot, a 5-reel game with sticky multiplier wilds and a maximum win of 10,000x.

Theme & Design

Steamrunners takes you to a high altitude when it hits your screen, with a city visible in the distance, whilst the main character of the game stands on one side of the reels, and his trusty plane is stationed at the other. As this is a Hacksaw release, it goes without saying that the graphics are of a high quality, but with regard to the theme and overall design, this is far from the studio’s best work.

Steamrunners Gameplay & Features

Hacksaw Gaming’s Steamrunners is a 5-reel, 4-row online slot with 14 fixed paylines and a return to player percentage of 96.32%. Joining the gameplay for real money presents punters with a good selection of bets, ranging from a budget-friendly €0.10 a spin up to a high roller’s heaven at €100 a press.

It’s onto the good stuff now as we talk about the bonus features, and central to the gameplay are the wild gas canisters, of which there are two, as highlighted below:

• Green Gas Canister: When a Green Gas Canister symbol lands, it spreads and transforms itself along with all adjacent low-paying and Wild symbols into Wild symbols. The spread occurs horizontally and vertically if the transformed symbols will be part of a win. If additional low-paying or Wild symbols are connected to the newly transformed ones, the spread continues, turning those connected symbols into Wilds as well.

• Purple Gas Canister: When a Purple Gas Canister symbol lands, it will spread and transform itself and all low-paying and Wild symbols on the grid into Wild symbols if the transformed symbols will be part of a win.

When low-paying symbols are transformed into Wild symbols, there is a chance that a random multiplier value is added to that new Wild symbol. Wild symbols created by gas canisters can have the following additive multiplier values: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, and 200x. Wild symbols already on the grid that are affected by gas canister symbols will receive a 2x multiplier value.

Last up, we have the bonus rounds on Steamrunners, and there are three variations that can be triggered. These are:

• Sky City Free Spins: Triggered when 3 scatters land in view, awarding 8 free spins. This feature keeps the base game mechanics, but any wilds that have a multiplier attached will remain sticky for the duration of the bonus.

• Gaslight District Free Spins: Triggered when 4 scatters land in view, awarding 10 free spins. This bonus keeps the mechanics of the Sky City, but at least one wild will be present on the playfield during every spin.

• Court of High Steam: Triggered when 5 scatters land in view, awarding 10 free spins. This feature keeps the base game mechanics, but one gas canister is guaranteed to land on every spin.
