Game Overview

There are some slots that you just know are going to get a sequel, and others that you feel deserve one, but it never seems to materialise. That’s how I always felt about Big Time Gaming and their original Megaclusters slot, Star Clusters. Yes, it wasn’t as well received as perhaps BTG would have hoped for, but I really liked the game and still play it now, so I was delighted to see that a second coming was on the cards.

That takes us nicely on to the introduction, and there are no fancy new names here; we’re just given Star Clusters 2, which again, is an initial 4-reel game with cascading reels, an expanding playfield, and wild multipliers that can build to huge values for potentially big rewards.

Theme & Design

Just like the original Star Clusters slot, Big Time Gaming’s Star Clusters 2 has a very modern feel to it, and the background to the game reminds me of the visuals you tend to see in dance music videos. As for the overall design of the game, it’s not at all complicated, but the graphics look sharp, the symbols are more detailed than in the original game, and overall, the presentation, in my opinion, is superb.

Time for some similar games, and as there are so few original titles in the Megaclusters catalogue, I’ll list the best of those games here if you want to try them. Star Clusters 2 Gameplay & Features

Big Time Gaming’s Star Clusters 2 is played on an initial 4-reel, 4-row playfield with 16 Megaclusters and has an above-average RTP of 96.63%. Players have a good selection of bets to choose from, with stakes starting at a minimum of €0.20 a spin, up to a maximum of €40.

As I mentioned, the gameplay begins with a 4×4 reel matrix, but if you hit a winning combination, each big symbol will break down into 4 smaller symbols, giving you more Megaclusters and additional chances to win. As for the first change from the original, this comes in the form of the Gold Wilds, which in Star Clusters would grow in multiplier value when part of a win in the base game. This time around, they are replaced with standard Golden Wilds that have a multiplier value attached between 2x and 100x when they land in view.

Okay, onto the bonus round, and this is where the biggest changes from the original game are seen, beginning with how the bonus is triggered. In Star Clusters you needed to hit five consecutive cascades in the base game, but that has now gone, and in Star Clusters 2, landing 4 scatters in view awards 10 free spins, with each additional scatter that lands adding 1 extra spin to the starting total.

Once the free spins are triggered, the grid transforms into an 8×8 playfield, where 64 Megaclusters are now active. Again, when 4 or more are part of a win, each bigger symbol will convert into 4 smaller symbols, with the bonus having the potential to give you a max of 256 Megaclusters in total.

Any winning combo that you hit will increase the global win multiplier at the top of the reels. Each time either a standard wild or gold wild is then part of a win, any multiplier it has attached to it will have the global multiplier added to it, too, giving you a real shot at hitting some of the biggest wins in the game. Oh, and you can be awarded more spins, too. Just hit 4 or more scatters again, and 10 extra spins will be coming your way.
