Stylish new slot designs and the latest in-game mechanics might be all the rage, but on occasion, you can’t beat going back to some classic retro online slotting that offers uncomplicated gameplay but still gives you the opportunity of a big win. That’s exactly what we have for you in today’s review in the form of the Pragmatic Play slot Snakes and Ladders Megadice. Based on the popular board game, players can enjoy 5-reels of action on this video slot with 10 fixed paylines, an RTP of 96.68%, and a maximum win of 5,300x bet.
The base game in Snakes & Ladders Megadice is very basic, with nothing more than multipliers of up to x3 in value available to help you boost your balance. The flip side to this is that the majority of the RTP is saved for the bonus round, which is played out on a Snakes & Ladders board where you’ll get to roll the dice and navigate your counter accordingly, hopefully avoiding those pesky snake squares.

Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
When I started playing Snakes & Ladders Megadice today, I realised there is a distinct lack of board game-themed slots for players to try out online. I put this down to a couple of reasons. Firstly, there could be issues on the licensing front. After all, game studios can’t just rip off a brand without getting permission and paying first. The second reason I came up with is that these styles of slots don’t resonate with players as much as other games, so why would a provider waste resources on such a game? However, with all that said, there are some releases for you to play if you wish, starting with Big Time Gaming’s Monopoly Megaways and Cluedo Mightyways from SG Gaming, but in general, this niche is sparse on titles to try out.
Before we roll our virtual dice in the feature section of this review, it’s time to find out what the symbols can pay. As always, we’ll kick things off at the top, where we find the Gorilla as the most valuable symbol, paying 50x the bet for a full line of five. The Banana and Snake follow with equal returns of 20x, whilst the Ladder completes the premium section, awarding 15x. That takes us onto the lower value royals, with the Ace and King sharing a 10x payout and the Queen, Jack, and Ten all returning 5x the bet for a five of a kind win.
Whether you’re here enjoying the demo version or want to try out some real-money play on Snakes & Ladders Megadice, you’ll find a good selection of bets. These begin at a bargain basement €0.10 a spin and max out at a ginormous €100 a press.
Base Game & Modifiers
Base gameplay on Snakes and Ladders Megadice video slot takes place across a 5×3 reel set, where 10 fixed paylines will be in play throughout. Wins will be awarded when at least 3 matching symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel first.
Progressive Feature
Above the slot’s reels, you will notice a snake in 11 separate sections. Each time a dice symbol lands on the reels, the number of dots on it will move you the corresponding positions along the snake. Once you reach the final position of the snake, the bonus feature will be triggered, and 12 dice rolls will be awarded. Furthermore, if along your journey you land on the 4th position exactly, a random number of rolls between 2 – 5 will be added to the bonus game when it begins.
Snakes And Ladders Megadice Slot Bonus Features
As well as activating the bonus via the progressive feature, players can also trigger it by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols in view, with these awarding 12, 14, and 16 rolls to begin the feature, respectively. Upon entering the bonus round, players will be taken to a 12×12 board with 144 separate spaces. These spaces are then filled randomly with prizes, ladders, and snakes, with the monkey counter being placed on the 1st square for you to begin the feature.
Free Spins Feature
Each of your awarded rolls will see 2 dice reveal dots of up to 6 each, with the resulting total moving your counter that amount of positions along the game board. There are various icons that you can land on whilst playing this feature, which are highlighted for you below:
- Money Award – A value from 4x – 100x will be added to your total.
- Multiplier – The multiplier value will be applied to the current win total.
- Ladder – This is a shortcut and will move you further up the game board.
- Snake – Landing on the snake will cause you to fall further down the board.
- Banana – The Banana will add more prize values to random positions on the board.
In addition to the above modifiers, it’s also possible for a skyscraper to appear on a random square when you land upon it. If this happens, the monkey will be transported to a random position on the board, which will be higher than the one he is currently on.
The bonus will end when you run out of spins or reach the final square. Furthermore, if you have remaining spins left after making it to the summit of the board, then a re-trigger chance will take place. Upon reaching this stage of the game, you’ll see the dice spin once more, and if a double lands, the bonus will restart.
Pros
- Based on a legendary board game we all know how to play.
- A unique bonus game not found on many other slots.
- Two ways to trigger the bonus round.
- High RTP.
Cons
- A big top prize would have been nice to see.
- Lack of base game features.
- No bonus buy.
Snakes & Ladders Megadice Slot Review Final Thoughts
The word iconic is undoubtedly overused in modern-day language, but when it comes to board games that have remained popular for 100s of years, it's only fair that Snakes and Ladders should be given that title. This doesn't mean that turning it into an online slot will guarantee its success, but I have to say I was impressed with Pragmatic Play and how they have made this both an interesting and, more importantly, a fun slot to play.
Granted, this game may not be to everybody's liking, but I thought it was a refreshing slot and a really entertaining concept overall. Why not see what you think of it and give the demo play a good tryout above? It might just turn out to be your new favourite Pragmatic slot.
