Game Overview

Get ready to take to the skies in Skylight Wonders, a video slot from PG Soft that has you soaring above the clouds in a hot air balloon! With multipliers, wild transformations, and a maximum win potential of 5,000x, this slot certainly looks good, but is it worth playing? Let’s find out!

Theme & Design

We’re always on the hunt for slots displaying new designs, concepts, or ideas, and while we have seen some ‘in-the-sky’ slots before, Skylight Wonders is surprisingly unique. The reels themselves are placed right atop a hot air balloon, and a blurred background shows what looks to be the English countryside, although that could, admittedly, be biased, given that the writer of this review is British!

Visually, it’s quite impressive, although the symbols slightly let the design down, as they look slightly out of place, we feel. Still, it’s a good-looking video slot from PG Soft and certainly better than some of their earlier releases. Still, they’ve been improving, as recent titles like Majestic Empire and Grimms’ Bounty: Hansel & Gretel show.

Skylight Wonders Gameplay & Bonus Features

Skylight Wonders is played on a 5×5 grid, and it uses a cluster pays mechanic, so any combinations of 4 or more symbols touching horizontally or vertically results in a win. The game also uses cascading reels, so when you do form a win, the symbols involved with the win disappear. You can wager between €0.60 and €180 per spin, although the software provider hasn’t publicly revealed the game’s RTP.

There are a few different bonuses and features in Skylight Wonders, and the first is the Wild Transformation mechanic. There are three reel frames on the reels: the 2nd row of the 3rd column, the 4th row of the 2nd column, and the 4th row of the 4th column. If, in each round, a winning symbol appears on top of any reel frames, that symbol will then be turned into a wild symbol for the following spin.

There is also a multiplier mechanic. At the start of any main game spin, this multiplier begins at 1x. Once any wins have been paid, and the cascade has completed, the multiplier increases by +1, and this process continues for as long as new wins continue to be formed.

Finally, there’s the game’s main free spins bonus round, triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. At the beginning of the free spins bonus, the multiplier begins at 2x. Each time a winning cascade is triggered, the multiplier increases by +2. You can also re-trigger additional spins by landing another 3+ scatter symbols in view, which awards 5 extra free spins.

Pros

  • Win up to 5,000x your bet.
  • Hugely unique design with cool graphics and animations.
  • Cluster pays mechanic with cascading wins.

Cons

  • The game is largely designed for mobile use; desktop play is a bit clunky.
  • No bonus buy in the demo slot.

Skylight Wonders Slot Review Final Thoughts

PG Soft is, in our opinion, one of those game developers that have been trying to reshape their image for quite a while now. Many of their earlier titles were lazy, uninspiring, and frankly pretty poor, but in recent years they’ve actually done quite a good job of starting to turn things around.

Yes, they remain primarily mobile-focused, so the gameplay experience isn’t the best from a desktop or laptop, but Skylight Wonders itself is really well thought out. The graphics are solid, the Wild Frame mechanic is cool (although not original), and the maximum win potential of 5,000x isn’t bad, either.

So, sure, Skylight Wonders probably won’t be winning any awards any time soon, but it’s a decent effort and a solid addition to PG Soft’s portfolio.

  1. Good new game, but not yet stable in terms of fractions and it’s a bit difficult to get free spins
