Game Overview

Sheep are funny animals, don’t you agree? The word is also a little bit strange, as sheep is both the singular and plural when referring to these little wool factories on legs. As for the fact that people in most countries only tend to eat the younger variety – the lambs – well, I’m not touching that one with a 100-foot pole. That’s quite enough musing for the time being, however, as Red Tiger has just sent us something much more interesting – a new slot named Sheep Gone Wild! The game offers 25 fixed paylines, a 95.72% RTP and a maximum jackpot of 13,409.2x the total bet.

The feature list includes two base game modifiers, both under the heading of ‘Sheep Snatch’. The idea is that if you allow the wolf to snatch a sheep, he will reward you with a win multiplier or a bunch of random wild symbols. It feels a little bit wrong, though, don’t you think? What if I don’t want to be a traitor to the poor sheep! It’s all downhill from there, too, as the Wolf Spins bonus drags you further into the conspiracy by forcing you to choose the sheep for the wolf to steal. It wasn’t me, officer… it was the big bad wolf! Like other recent Red Tiger slots, Sheep Gone Wild offers a bonus buy facility with prices ranging between 8x and 100x the normal cost per spin.

Can you live with the guilt of being a co-conspirator in a plot against a bunch of innocent sheep? Think about it this way – playing our free demo slot of Sheep Gone Wild is probably better than eating them, isn’t it?

Sheep Gone Wild Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Sheep Gone Wild Slot Paytable

The story goes that Red Tiger wanted to create a new animal-themed online slot but didn’t want to pump out yet another Buffalo or Rhino-themed game. So the developer did a little research on which animals had not yet been completely drained of milk before finally declaring: Bar Bar Black Sheep, have you any wool? No sir, no sir, no slots full! I wouldn’t go telling your children that particular bedtime story, though… it’s not very good, is it?

Red Tiger can’t seem to make their minds up regarding their paytables; this is a shame, as it lets down what is otherwise an immaculately presented online slot. Some of their games now show payouts in simple multiples of the current stake, but unfortunately, this one sticks to their older technique of requiring you to do a little math by yourself first. The wild and sheep herder symbols share the top spot on the paytable, both of which have a stated return of ‘200’ – sadly, it turns out that this is only 8x the total bet once you have followed the necessary steps to translate the number. The sheep is worth 4.8x for all five symbols, followed by the pig at 4x, the fox at 3x, and the chicken at 2.4x. There are five more low-paying royal symbols, with returns ranging between 0.2x for five tens up to 1.5x for five aces.

Stakes are another key area that Red Tiger seems to have trouble setting on! As a result, the minimum/maximum bets in Sheep Gone Wild have been set at €0.10 and €6.00, respectively; those with smaller bankrolls will no doubt appreciate the minimum bet, but high rollers may lament the lack of any truly sizable wager options.

Base Game & Modifiers

Sheep Gone Wild Slot Base Game

The base game of Sheep Gone Wild utilises a slightly expanded 5×4 reel setup, which makes the 25 paylines feel a little bit sparse, in my opinion. There are 1,024 possible paths from the left to right on a grid such as this, and with only 25 of them active for payouts, you can be certain of seeing lots of combinations appear that you think might be a win yet are not.

Don’t worry, though, there are acceptable reasons for both the low numbers on the paytable and the lack of pay lines offered in Sheep Gone Wild, and it’s the special features that connect the dots on this occasion.

Sheep Snatch Modifiers

Randomly during any spin, a sheep can appear in the middle of the reel set. When this occurs, you’ll need to click the sheep to continue, which will then trigger one of two modifiers:

  • Symbol upgrade: One of the low-paying royal symbols will be chosen to be transformed into wild symbols for the current spin only.
  • Win Multiplier: The overall win for the current round will have a multiplier of 2x or 3x applied to it.

The Sheep Snatch modifier can repeat up to three times before the spin begins. If multiple win multipliers are awarded, their values are stacked to a maximum of 8x.

Sheep Gone Wild Slot Bonus Features

Bonus scatter symbols appear on all five reels, but you’ll only need to hit three simultaneously to trigger the wolf spins feature. If your triggering spin includes more than three scatter symbols, you will be awarded additional picks at the start of the bonus round.

Wolf Free Spins

Each bonus round begins with seven free spins being allocated to your remaining total, and the game will then present you with 15 sheep for you to select from. The number of picks you are allowed from this screen equals the number of scatters you hit on the triggering spin.

Five of the 15 sheep are hiding low-paying symbols; if these are selected, they will be transformed into wilds for the duration of the bonus round. Another four sheep conceal win multipliers – two for 2x and two for 3x. The remaining six sheep have additional free spins stashed under their mattress, which you will promptly steal if you select them. And they thought the wolf was bad!

Each time a bonus scatter symbol lands on the reels during the wolf free spins, the game will allow you to choose another sheep from the remaining flock. Each time you select a sheep, they are handed over to the wolf. Of course, this means that once the wolf has all the sheep, no more re-triggers can be won. Now, whose fault is that?

Bonus Buy

The bonus buy menu includes two options; you can purchase the Sheep Snatch modifiers for just 8x the normal price per spin, which may trigger up to three times before the next round begins. Alternatively, 100x the bet will get you a full set of wolf free spins with a random number of triggering scatter symbols.

Sheep Gone Wild Slot Review Final Thoughts

I sure did have fun playing this game, although I think I enjoyed writing this review even more. Sheep Gone Wild will have you coming back time and again to try and hand over as many sheep as you can to the big bad wolf … the 13,409.2x your bet is just a side benefit as far I’m concerned. Recommended!
