Slot Overview
Second Thunder is a high-variance fantasy-themed video slot from Thunderkick. The game boasts stacked symbols, expanding Wilds, reel multipliers, and a Free Spins Bonus packed with features. With a maximum win potential of up to 12,500x, it looks good, but is it? Find out in this detailed Second Thunder slot review!
Theme & Design
Second Thunder drops you straight into a gloomy Nordic battlefield, and in the distance you’ll see snowy mountains, lightning, and soldiers at the bottom wielding their weapons, presumably ready for battle! Thunderkick’s artwork is clean and detailed, and visually the game looks great. It reminds us slightly of Ways of Athena and also gives off quite a strong Riders of the Storm vibe.
Above the reels, and below the game’s logo, you can just make out multipliers. These light up, along with various power-ups, as you play, and we’ll talk more about how these work and what they do in the following section of this review.

Second Thunder Gameplay & Bonus Features
Second Thunder is played on a 6×5 layout. There are no paylines, as it uses a 4,096-ways-to-win mechanic. You can bet between €0.10 and €100 per spin, and the game offers a fixed RTP of 94.20%. Wild symbols can land on all reels, and they can appear as single symbols or 2 or 3-symbol-high.
Now, at the heart of the game are three mechanics, Wild Fields, Reel Multipliers, and Symbol Injections, from the Feature Row – the moving row above the reels. If you manage to land Wilds on two or more reels, they then trigger the Wild Field mechanic. This forms a rectangular zone that transforms all symbols within it into Wilds. This rectangle can expand up to all 6 reels, meaning it’s possible to hit full screens of Wilds!
Above the reels sits the Feature Row, which can activate randomly during spins. If you play with the Bet+ Ante Bet on, it’s always on. The Feature Row always contains at least 1 Wild or Scatter symbol. It can also display multipliers of up to 10x. When it’s active, multipliers apply to any wins on their reels.
The bonus game is triggered by landing 3 or more scatters, and doing so awards 5 free games and +2 spins for every additional scatter. During the free spins bonus, the Feature Row is active on every spin, making it much easier for you to land Wilds, stacked symbols, and multipliers. Plus, if you land 3+ Scatters during the bonus round, you are awarded another +5 spins.
Bonus Buy & Bet+ Options
Second Thunder includes some Bonus Buy/Bet+ options. You can buy instant entry into the free spins bonus round for a fixed price of 75x. There are also multiple Bet+ options, including:
- Bonus Boost: Costs 1.5x and makes each spin 2x more likely to trigger the bonus.
- Bonus Boost Plus: Costs 3x and makes it 5x more likely to trigger the bonus.
- Presence of Thor: Costs 15x and guarantees an active Feature Row.
- Thunderstorm: Costs 15x and guarantees a Wild Field.
Pros
- Win up to 12,500x.
- Beautiful design and solid overall presentation.
- Tonnes of modifier action from the Feature Row, including multipliers, Wilds, and symbol transformations.
Cons
- Below-average RTP of 94.20%.
- Feature Row doesn’t activate often unless you use the Bet+ modes.
- Big wins are largely dependant on Wild Fields triggering.
Second Chance Slot Review Final Thoughts
Second Thunder is a volatile, interesting Norse-inspired video slot from Thunderkick, and we think it’s a pretty solid release to round off 2025 for them. We really like how the combination of Wild Fields and Reel Multipliers keeps every spin unpredictable, and thanks to the ever-changing Feature Row, there’s a feeling of unpredictability on every spin.
The free spins bonus is also pretty solid, thanks to the fact that the Feature Row is always active. However, the low RTP, the reliance on Wild Fields (to form big wins), and the fact that the Feature Row is quite rare, unless you’re playing with the Bet+ option enabled, may deter some of the more serious players, as well as those wanting casual, stress-free gameplay.
However, players who enjoy ‘thunderous’ video slots with lots of action, volatility, and, of course, a maximum win potential of up to 12,500x will definitely want to give Second Thunder a try when it’s released - as we will be ourselves!
