Game Overview

Yes! Finally, there’s a badass theme I can get excited about! In the last few days, I’ve reviewed slots themed on Jelly, Cocktails, and Horses – which is fine, but I’ve been yearning for something more masculine. Today, I’m looking at a slot from Playtech themed on the mighty Samurai, warriors known for loyalty, honour, courage, self-discipline, and, of course, for being highly skilled in martial arts and warfare. The game in question is Samurai Fury, a 5×3 slot featuring 20-fixed paylines, and an RTP of 95.50%.

Samurai Fury is a reasonably simple slot regarding appearance and features, which may or may not appeal depending on what you look for. As you spin the reels of the base game, there are just stacked wild symbols, while the free spins bonus is not the most entertaining you’ll play as there’s just a symbol removal mechanic involved. That’s about your lot with the bonuses and modifiers, but it could prove a solid option if you prefer straightforward slotting and not all the complexities that some other games bring to the table.

Can you master this ancient art of fighting and become a superior warrior? It may take some time to hone your skills, so why not perfect your craft in our Samurai Fury demo slot, it’s free to play below.

Samurai Fury Slot Paytable

As the slot’s title suggests, Samurai Fury is themed on what some consider to be among the finest warriors of the past, the fearsome Samurai-sword-wielding Samurai. While you wouldn’t want to mess with these guys if you ever crossed their path, you might want to come across them on other similarly-themed slots – fortunately, a few out there will let you do just that. Another recently released example you can try is our Pragmatic Play demo of the Rise of the Samurai IV. What stood out for me about that slot, which I gave a reasonable score in review, is you can choose one of two Samurai clans to fight for before you start playing – essentially, you’re choosing one of two bonus rounds, one offering a super high variance and another that is just classified as high.

Add that one to your playlist for another time, as the focus right now is Playtech’s Samurai Fury and in this section, I’ll analyse the paytable to see the sort of payouts you can expect. Upon the slot’s five reels are eight regular symbols, a bonus scatter symbol and a wild symbol. I will get into more detail on the latter two a little later; as for now, I want to explain the possible symbol combination payouts that can come your way during the base game and the free spins bonus. The Temple holds the game’s best payout of 10x the stake, which will come once it lines up five times across one of the 20 paylines. Paying 8x the stake is the Mountain, while the Tiger and Horse will reward 6x and 5x, respectively. The generic playing cards, often used as low-paying symbols on slots, perform the same role here, with the Ace and King both worth 4x and the Queen and Jack paying 3x for five of a kind combination.

On the Samurai Fury slot demo, the minimum and maximum betting limits are €0.10 and €500.00, but the betting range could change depending on the online casino you’re playing at, especially the upper limit, with most casinos likely to cap the max stake at a much lower amount.

Samurai Fury Slot Base Game

Samurai Fury Slot Base Game

Five reels and three rows make up the base layout of Samurai Fury, and across that interface, Playtech has added a set of 20 paylines. As standard, all wins pay from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel, and you’ll need at least three matching symbols to complete a winning combo.

Stacked Wilds

The base game is not the most exciting you’ll come across, but you do at least have wild symbols, which can appear stacked and land on the second, third, and fourth reels to help you create winning combinations. The wild can act as any regular symbol when it can help create or improve a winning combo.

Samurai Fury Slot Bonus Features

Samurai Fury Slot Free Spins Feature

It took me a good 80 or so spins to trigger the Samurai Fury free spins bonus, which is quite the grind when there’s not much else going on in the base game. You, however, might enjoy a bit more luck and land the required scatter symbols on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th reels quicker than that, and when you do, you’ll receive 10 free spins.

Free Spins Feature

During the free spins, a masked Samurai symbol can land on the 5th reel, and if that happens on a winning spin, you’re given one additional free spin, and all instances of the winning symbols are removed from the reels for the duration of the bonus. You can track the symbols removed on a meter above the reels. The only time a symbol will stay on the reels when the masked Samurai hits is when it is the last one left aside from the wild, and in that case, you just receive the extra spin.

Pros

  • Samurai Fury is a well-presented slot that looks good on mobile and desktop devices.

Cons

  • I found the gameplay monotonous and boring.
  • Below average RTP.

Samurai Fury Slot Review Final Thoughts

I'm usually a big fan of Playtech slots, but this one did nothing for me. I understand it is not meant to be an all-singing and dancing modern slot packed full of features and instead offers some more traditional 5x3 payline action - but I found no reason to play this over many other titles. It has a low RTP, a lacklustre base game, and a far-from-exciting free spins bonus game. It might appeal to a few of you, especially the more casual players, but for me, it's one of those slots that's instantly forgettable. You'd be much better off giving their Spin 'Em Round slot a try instead.
