Slot Overview
Ryze 2 is a high-volatility cluster-pay slot from ELK Studios, and it builds on the original game, this time with a much larger grid, deeper mechanics, and a brand new “Orb Overload” feature. With a maximum win potential of 10,000x and Elk Studios’ signature unusual design, does this sequel do enough to warrant… being a sequel? Or was this a follow-up nobody asked for? Let’s find out.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Ryze 2 uses a 7-row grid with 5 to 6 columns. The game is arranged in an offset layout, where symbols fall left or right during Avalanches. Wins are formed by clusters of 5 or more matching symbols, and you can bet from €0.20 to €100. Like most of Elk Studio’s recent releases, the game offers a below-average RTP of just 94%.
Now, any winning cluster of paying symbols (not Coins) creates a Multiplier Wild with an initial 1x value. Each Multiplier Wild increases in value based on symbols involved in wins, they can merge with others, and it carries its combined multiplier forward. The Coins, on the other hand, carry individual multiplier values. Winning Coin clusters pay their total value, which is then transferred to a new Coin left on the grid. Coins do not generate Multiplier Wilds on their own, but existing Multiplier Wilds apply to Coin wins.
You will also notice Burst symbols. These act as blockers, and they activate at the end of a spin, transforming themselves – and adjacent symbols – into matching symbols or Coins. If a Burst activates next to a dormant Orb, it helps power it, too.
Now, you’ll notice these Dormant Orbs sitting around the grid, and they become powered when a winning cluster lands next to them. If all six Orbs are powered in a single spin, Orb Overload triggers, activating Orbs one by one with random effects like spawning Coins, Wilds, Burst symbols, upgrading symbols, or Multiplier Wilds. After triggering, Orbs reset and can be powered again within the same spin.
If you manage to get a Bonus Scatter symbol to reach the bottom row, you trigger the bonus round and are awarded 7 free games. Here, Multiplier Wilds become sticky, locking in place. Landing additional Scatter symbols awards +3 spins, and landing a Super Bonus Scatter upgrades the feature; in the Super Free Spins, every spin starts with an Orb Overload.
X-iter
Ryze 2 includes ELK’s X-iter system, and this allows you to buy boosted chances at the Free Spins bonuses, trigger Orb Overloads directly, or purchase the regular or Super Free Spin. Prices range from 2.5x up to 500x, the latter of which is the Super Bonus price.

Theme & Design
Following on from the original Ryze, Ryze 2 does a fairly good job of keeping the fantasy treasure theme of its predecessor, but you’ll notice that the scene has shifted from a temple to an underground mint, carved into the side of a mountain.
It looks pretty good, to be honest, and you’ll see gold coins, gems, and stonework, while Ryze the dragon himself paces nearby. As is the case with pretty much every Elk Studios release, Ryze 2 does a solid job with animations, and the cinematic feel is hard to ignore. It, surprisingly, reminds us of Coin Quest 2, even though the providers are different, but, of course, Ryze 2 carries Elk Studios’s unique, slightly experimental vibe!
Pros
- Pretty deep, layered mechanics.
- Orb Overload is exciting and unpredictable.
- Sticky Multiplier Wilds in the Free Spins can pay big, fast.
Cons
- Below average RTP of 94%.
- High volatility can lead to long dry spells.
- Max win is the same as the original; 10,000x.
Final Thoughts
Ryze 2 feels, to us, more like a “remake” of the original rather than a sequel. The core gameplay loop of clusters, Avalanches, Coins, and Multiplier Wilds remains pretty much the same, with the core differences being the larger grid and Orb Overload mechanics. Both are welcome additions, but they don’t do a huge amount to the overall game, we feel.
Still, there’s probably just enough “newness” going on here to make the game worth playing. Yes, the maximum win potential has stayed the same at 10,000x, and the RTP is below average, at 94%.
However, it’s a great looking game, the outcomes feel more unpredictable and dynamic, thanks to the Orbs, Bursts, and enhanced Free Spins - and while it’s not a radical sequel by any means, it’s a decent effort, and one we quite enjoyed reviewing.

Another amazing game by elk studios. They always put so much effort into their games. I work in a slots place in the UK and wish they would talk to inspired and astra about adding their games to physical machines, such as the prismatic or flex models of machines as I’m sick of seeing the same re skinned games added over and over again. The UK slot industry NEEDS these completely fresh games!
