Game Overview
Provider Inspired Gaming has a rich heritage within the gaming industry, and terminals featuring their slots can be found in betting shops and casinos far and wide. Naturally, the success of their land-based business has subsequently transferred across to the online scene, where many of their most popular creations can now be found. Some of these highly recognisable titles include Cops and Robbers, Fishing Frenzy, Space Invaders, and Reel King. I’ll be reviewing the most recent instalment of the later today, which is titled Reel LinKing. It’s a medium volatility, five-reel, three-row slot featuring a maximum win of 2,500x and an RTP of 95.00%.
The original Reel King is widely considered to be a classic amongst many slot players, and that popularity has been the driving force behind several re-makes which have attempted to retain its essence whilst introducing some more modern touches. That theme continues here, as this version uses the familiar 5×3 grid and 20 fixed payline setup seen beforehand but brings a new coin collection feature into play. Fans of the series will be happy to learn that the yellow dinging reels that trigger the Reel King feature remain a prominent aspect of the game and that the all-important gamble feature is still present.
Many people will have you believe that the original of something is always the best. There can be some truth to that, but sometimes, people can be stubborn and blinded by nostalgia. I’m sure many of you will have played previous Reel King titles in the past, so why not judge for yourself how this latest version compares? The Reel LinKing demo slot is available below, and it’s entirely free to play!
Reel Linking Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If you’ve ever frequented land-based gambling establishments in the past, I’m sure you’ll be very familiar with many of the titles produced by Inspired Gaming. Personally, I’m a big fan of their work. One of my favourites, and a real old-school classic worth trying here on our site, is the Centurion Megaways free play slot. If you enjoy hunting for bonuses, you’ll get a thrill out of this one, as there are four completely different features to be activated! Another fantastic title in their line-up is Cops and Robbers Megaways, a high volatility game where escaping the old bill can bring you lucrative rewards of up to 12,500x. Coming up next, though, we’ll take a more detailed look into the features of Reel LinKing, kicking things off over at the paytable.
To receive the maximum return for each symbol, you’ll need to match five of them across a payline. The top symbol is the Jackpot Money Bag, which will return 25x your stake for each line of five. Next, it’s the King at 10x, the Queen at 5x, and the Jack and Ten worth 3x. The final two symbols are the Plum and the Cherry, which will pay 2x per line of five.
A large number of stakes are available to select from on Reel LinKing. These begin at €0.10 and rise to as high as €100.00, with plenty of well positioned options in between. The impressive amount of bets available will ensure that whether you’re a low or high roller, there’s a suitable stake to play at comparable to your bankroll.
Reel Linking Slot Base Game
Reel Linking operates on a five-reel, three-row grid with 20 fixed paylines. As seen in many slots operating on this classic set-up, wins are achieved by matching at least three symbols from left to right across one or more of these paylines, commencing from the leftmost reel.
Gamble
The gamble feature can be set to on, on for wins 5x or over, or off. If activated, when the relevant win value is achieved, the player will be taken to the gamble screen, which displays two pie gamble wheels. The wheel on the left offers the opportunity to gamble any current winnings for a higher cash value, whilst a varying number of spins on the Reel Linking feature can be won on the righthand wheel.
The win and lose zones can be adjusted, which will change the prize value on offer along with the chance of winning or losing the gamble. Once spun, if the pointer lands in the green zone, it counts as a win, while if it lands in the red zone, it will be a loss. The wheels can be spun multiple times if the player chooses, and the maximum number of starting coins that can be won on the Reel Linking feature is 12.
Reel Linking Slot Bonus Features
There are two main features that can trigger whilst playing Reel LinKing, and that’s the information you’re dying to find out about, so let’s get straight into it and see what these are and exactly what they do.
Reel King Feature
During any spin, some reels may light up yellow and make a dinging noise. If all five reels do so within the same spin, the Reel King feature will be triggered, and between one and five Reel Kings will appear on the reels. Each Reel King will then spin their reels for a random number of spins before awarding the relevant accumulated total win and disappearing from the grid. Three red 7’s will pay 25x, three yellow 7’s are worth 10x, three blue 7’s return 5x, and a mix of any of those colours will award 2x.
Reel Linking Feature
The coin symbol can land in any grid position, featuring a random stake multiplier value ranging from x1 to x25. If six of these coins land on the reels during any single spin, the Reel LinKing feature will be triggered. During this feature, all paytable symbols are removed from the grid, leaving only coin symbols and blank spaces. Three spins will be awarded, and any spin that sees one or more coins land on the reels will reset the spin count back to three.
If all three row positions on a reel are filled with coins, then they will be collected by a Reel King, who will remain in position on that reel. The bonus will end once there are three consecutive spins where no further coins land. At this point, the value of any coins on the grid will be paid, and any Reel Kings collected will perform their own special feature.
Pros
- Classic gameplay with a modern touch.
- Two different bonus features.
Cons
- The pie gamble is not as good as the original ladder gamble.
- RTP is slightly below average
Reel Linking Slot Review Final Thoughts
Reviewing this title has helped me bring back some brilliant memories of battling away against the original Reel King, so it's been great fun. In general, I like the additions that have been made, such as the coin collection bonus. However, trying to get to the top of the gamble ladder was an integral part of playing Reel King, and I just can’t get on with the new pie gamble version. Ultimately, it’s a very enjoyable game, but not quite as good as the original. If our review has left you feeling incredibly nostalgic and you want to get stuck into some more Reel King themed games, then make sure you play our Reel King Mega demo, whilst the Slingo Reel King game offers up something completely different, which you'll either fall in love with or completely hate.
