Game Overview
Game provider Yggdrasil sets sail with Red Dragon Sails, a high-volatile slot that combines a pirate-y adventure with… East Asia! This 5×3 game has 50 paylines and offers tonnes of bonuses and features, including Free Spins, Money Dragon Respins, and a maximum win potential of up to 6,500x!
Theme & Design
Pirate slots have always been popular with players, and classics like Novomatic’s Captain Venture remain fan favourites even today! Even more modern releases like Foxium Games’ Boom Pirates have proven popular, but for some reason, pirate-themed games have never quite seen the same levels of success as, say, Egyptian or Irish games.
Now, one thing Yggdrasil Gaming is superb at is developing games that look fantastic. We’d go as far as saying they’re one of the best software providers in the world when it comes to design, and Red Dragon Sails is yet another perfect example of just how much effort they put into their game design.
The reels are set atop a ship, and the ship moves very slightly as the waves crash below! It looks great, the sound effects are awesome, and we have absolutely zero complaints with the graphics here!

Red Dragon Sails Gameplay & Features
Red Dragon Sails is designed around a five-reel, three-row layout, and there are a generous 50 fixed paylines in play at all times. You can wager between €0.20 and €70 per spin, and the game’s default RTP is 96%. Be aware, however, that Yggdrasil Gaming offers multiple RTP configurations, sometimes as low as 90.5%.
There are a couple of bonuses and features to look out for, the first of which is the free spins round. This is triggered by landing three scatter symbols in view, and doing so awards 9 free games. During the bonus, extra wild symbols are added to the reels.
Then, the main bonus is Money Dragon. Triggered by landing 6 or more Golden Dragon Scatter symbols, it transforms the reels into a grid of Chinese coins worth between 1x and 1,000x your bet. You start with 3 spins, and every time a new coin lands, the counter resets, so it’s essentially your classic Hold & Win bonus round.
Any coins that land have a cash value attached, and at the end of the bonus round, you’re awarded the sum of all coins on the screen. Plus, if you’re lucky enough to fill all 15 positions, you win the GRAND jackpot, worth 1,000x!
Feature Buy
Yggdrasil Gaming has two bonus buy options in Red Dragon Sails. You can pay 32x for instant entry into the free spins bonus round or 120x for instant access to the Money Dragon bonus.
Pros
- Has a max win of 6,500x.
- Good design and graphics.
- Exciting Money Dragon feature.
Cons
- RTP rates can vary.
- The free spins round is a bit bland.
Red Dragon Sails Slot Review Final Thoughts
Red Dragon Sails is Yggdrasil doing what it does best; stunning visuals, solid mechanics, and a theme that’s clearly well thought out and put together. Sure, the maximum win potential of 6,500x may not suit every player, especially those going in search of mammoth 50,000x+ wins, but it’s more than enough for most players.
We really like the Money Dragon feature, too. While it's another Hold & Win-inspired bonus, it’s just... fun! Our only real complaint is the free spins bonus round, which is, we feel, a bit weak. This is shown by the fact that the bonus buy option costs just 32x!
Still, Red Dragon Sails is a solid game, and if you’re looking for something new to try out, this is definitely a slot we’d recommend giving a go!
