Slot Overview

Racing Royalty is the latest Habanero release, and this high-volatility, horse racing-themed slot combines a wealthy aesthetic with Hold and Ride mechanics, a Bonus Buy, a Super Bet, Jackpots, Collect-Style Respins, and a  maximum win potential of 1,234x. Is it any good? Has Habanero finally released a game that people might actually play? Let’s find out.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Racing Royalty is played on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 25 fixed paylines, and you can stake from €0.25 to €500 per spin. The game offers a healthy RTP of 96.70%, and it’s rated internally by Habanero as 5/5 on their volatility scale.

Now, alongside all standard symbols, you’ll also see Double RACE icons. These can land on any reel, and when they do, they count as two symbols, essentially allowing you to form 10-of-a-kind wins.

The game’s core bonus, however, is the Hold & Ride feature. If four horse symbols of the same type (including doubled versions) plus wilds land on reel 1, they lock in place and award respins. Any matching symbols or Wilds that land on the Respins are also locked. You simply keep spinning until you fail to land any new symbols, at which point wins are evaluated on a payline basis.

The game also has a free spins bonus. It’s triggered by landing three of the scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5, and doing so awards 10 free games. There are no specific modifiers in play during the bonus, but you can land the Hold & Ride feature, and re-triggers are also possible.

Bonus Buy & Super Bet

Racing Royalty includes both a Buy Feature and a Super Bet option. The Bonus Buy allows you to buy into the Free Spins bonus directly, while the Super Bet allows you to increase your base game stake for a higher chance of landing a bonus.

Theme & Design

Racing Royalty transports you to a very attractive racetrack setting where you’ll see horses, polished trophies, and theme-specific imagery all over the reels and in the background. The game’s animations are smooth, compact, and fluid, and the slot renders well on pretty much every type of device.

It’s quite nice to see more racing games being released, too. While we have titles like Big Horsey Fortune and Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven, it’s still quite an underappreciated genre, in our opinion, so we have to give credit to Habanero in this regard, at least!

Pros

  • Enjoyable Hold & Ride mechanic.
  • Random features in the base game.
  • Bonus Buy + Super Bet offers feature-focused gameplay.

Cons

  • Low max win of just 1,234x.
  • RTP actually decreases with Bonus Buy/Super Bet options.
  • Theme feels a bit bland - despite being well-presented.

Final Thoughts

Habanero is one of those games studios that haven’t quite had the level of success they’d probably hoped for, despite being somewhat of a household name in the online gambling world. The problem, we feel, is seen pretty much perfectly in Racing Royalty.

The game developer has clearly put a lot of thought into the slot’s mechanics, and it looks pretty solid, too. However, a maximum win potential of 1,234? That’s lower than a lot of the rubbish we saw Quickspin and Elk Studios releasing 7 or 8 years ago, and in 2026, it’s just not good enough for most players.

Yes, there will be some players who care more about the theme and bonuses than the actual win potential, but it’s uncommon, and most people gambling online want to be able to hit some decent potential.

For us? Racing Royalty doesn’t offer that potential, and that really is a shame, because we really enjoyed the Hold & Ride feature. It’s obviously too late for Habanero to fix it now, but we’d love to see them pushing out a sequel in the future, with higher win potential!
