Game Overview
I’ll admit it – I’m something of a grammar nazi at times, and “Queen of Gods” just doesn’t sound right to me. Pragmatic Play, you have a challenge on your hands to make up for this indiscretion – I expect great things from this slot! The presentation is top notch graphically, but I wasn’t quite so impressed with the sound – it all gets a little bit too hectic when the reels are spinning, and I suspect many players are going to be muting this slot before long. As for the vitals, this is a ten fixed payline game with an RTP of 96.38% – no problem with either of those figures – but then we hit a third issue – the win cap is a frankly unacceptable 1,839x stake, as I found out to my dismay when testing the game and had my bonus round ended prematurely once I hit this strange limit.
It’s a disappointing start, to be honest, especially considering that the game has a stacked wilds modifier which can transform up to three reels into stacked wilds at the beginning of any spin and no less than four unique free spin features. All the essential ingredients are here for a great slot, but capping players winnings at less than 2,000x stake is almost certain to put off a large portion of online slot players.
Check the game out for yourself and I’m sure you will agree with at least the majority of the sentiments I have expressed above – our free demo slot of Queen of Gods is available below.
Queen Of Gods Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Queen of Gods video slot is a strange mix of styles – the music has an Egyptian vibe to it, and several of the symbols resemble ancient Egyptian gods such as Cleopatra along with the masks which were worn by bodyguards during that era. At the same time, the symbols have something of a monster-like quality to them too, so on the whole it seems like an unusual collection of themes has just been thrown together. That sounds negative, but in truth, I think it works quite well. Couldn’t we have just called it “Queen of the Gods” though, Pragmatic Play? It would have done wonders for my OCD.
Let’s talk payouts then – there are two top paying symbols who I’m calling Cleopatra and her … eagle guard (the purple animal looking, creature). Both symbols return 20x your stake for a full line of five-of-a-kind and even pay 10x your stake for hitting just four of them. This seems generous compared to many slots I have reviewed recently, but then I remembered – this is a ten-line game, so, those numbers aren’t exactly impressive after all. The green and blue monster looking characters both have a payout of 10x your bet for five-of-a-kind, again halving to 5x for a four-of-a-kind combination. Aside from these four high-paying symbols, just four more royal symbols are making up the complete collection of regular symbols.
The game does feature wild symbols however they only appear on reels two, three, and four, which is a little disappointing – why can’t we have them on all five reels? Even the scatter symbol has a peculiar arrangement, appearing on the 2, 3, and 5 reels only. As well as triggering the bonus round, you also receive a payoff of 5x your stake for hitting all three scatters.
I hate to sound like I am ragging on Pragmatic Play – I’ve enjoyed many of their recent games, but I must be honest when it comes to their horrible bet selection setup – pressing the plus and minus buttons on either side of the spin control brings up a separate window with multiple selectors for choosing your coin value, total bet, and number of coins per line. Is this necessary? My advice is to ignore the top two controls and just use the “Total Bet” controls, which allow you to set your stakes without messing around with coins or coin values. The minimum bet per spin is €0.10, whilst the maximum is €100.00.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Queen of Gods online slot has few surprises – the game utilizes a traditional 5×3 layout, but you may want to peek at the pay line layout in the information pages before beginning to play if this is something you like to know before playing a new game. The arrangement of the lines is certainly not standard, so you could well find yourself with symbols landing in positions you expect to result in a win but do not.
Stacked Wilds Feature
To the best of my knowledge, Microgaming was the first developer to create a random stacked wilds feature of this nature. Thunderstruck 2’s Wild Storm feature was ground-breaking at the time, and every time a player was lucky enough to score a five-reel Wild Storm you could be sure they would be posting pictures of it on forums and social media.
Considering that such a feature was done so well more than a decade ago, it’s disappointing to see Pragmatic Play implement a vastly inferior version in 2022. At the beginning of any spin, full vertical stacks of wild symbols may randomly appear on reels two, three, and four; there is no chance of a four or five-reel hit here. Again, this is a real shame, but unsurprising given the woefully low maximum win cap of just 1,839x your stake – you couldn’t exactly include a feature which awarded a prize far greater than the maximum allowed, could you?
Queen Of Gods Slot Free Spins Feature
Hit three or more scatter symbols and you will be presented with four choices of bonus round, each with differing levels of various and big win potential. As a rule with any online slot, the fewer free spins you receive, the more volatile the bonus is likely to be.
Before your bonus round starts, you need to choose from one of the following options:
- 15 Free Spins – Wild symbols have no multiplier
- 11 Free Spins – Wild symbols have a 2x multiplier
- 8 Free Spins – Wild symbols have a 3x multiplier
- Mystery Pick – Take a chance and you could end up with 15 free spins at 3x multiplier… you could also end up with 8 free spins with no multiplier too. Are you brave enough to take the risk?
The free spins feature uses special reel strips with no royal symbols, making it much easier to hit bigger wins in this mode. Unfortunately, the feature cannot be retriggered.
Queen Of Gods Slot Review Final Thoughts
Queen of Gods has a lot of issues, but all of them could be forgiven if it wasn’t for the shocking decision to cap player winnings at just 1,839x your bet – I managed to hit this limit during testing and couldn’t believe it when my bonus round ended prematurely. Come on Pragmatic Play – you could have done so much better here.
