Game Overview

Divine Queen: Heart of Ice is a new release from BGaming that takes you into a frozen mountain kingdom ruled by a mystical queen! Using a scatter pays mechanic and an extra Multiplier Reel to the right of the reels, this medium-to-high variance slot offers cascading wins, progressive multipliers, and a maximum win potential of up to 5,000x.

Theme & Design

Visually, Divine Queen: Heart of Ice looks like it sits somewhere between a fantasy-themed game and a winter-inspired slot. The white-haired snow queen dominates the game screen, appearing on the right-hand side of the reels and standing within, presumably, her ice kingdom.

It’s a very atmospheric-looking game, and BGaming has done a solid job with the presentation here. It actually reminds us a little of Gates of Olympus, in terms of design (not the snow theme, of course), and there are also hints of Frozen Age, too.

Queen Diving Heart of Ice Gameplay & Bonus Features

Divine Queen: Heart of Ice is designed around a 6×5 layout, and there’s an additional 7th reel too which we’ll discuss shortly. The game uses a pay-anywhere mechanic, meaning you form wins by simply landing 8+ identical symbols anywhere in view. The game offers a solid 97% RTP, and you can wager between €0.20 and €50 per spin.

The slot also uses a Refilling Reels mechanic, which means any winning symbols disappear, and new ones drop down to take their place.

As mentioned, if you look to the right-hand side of the reels, you’ll see the Multiplier Reel, and on each spin this begins at 1x. It increases by +1 for every cascade, and the final multiplier value it reaches is applied to your total win once the spin ends. Now, if a multiplier symbol lands during a winning spin, its value (between 3x and 500x) is also added to the active Multiplier Reel value.

The main bonus round is triggered by landing 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols in view, and doing so awards 10, 12, or 14 free spins, respectively. During the free spins, the multiplier does not reset between spins, meaning the end of the bonus round is where you’ll be able to hit the most lucrative wins.

Bonus Buy / Chance x2

Divine Queen: Heart of Ice also includes a bonus buy option, which allows you to purchase instant entry into the free spins bonus round for a cost of 100x your stake. You can also activate Chance x2 for a 50% stake increase that doubles your chances of landing the bonus round naturally.

Pros

  • High 97% RTP.
  • Win up to 5,000x.
  • Chance x2 and Bonus Buy options available.

Cons

  • Feels very similar to Gates of Olympus.
  • Bonus Buy unavailable in all regions.
  • Can be surprisingly hard to hit multiple winning cascades.

Queen Diving Heart of Ice Slot Review Final Thoughts

Divine Queen: Heart of Ice is a decent-looking slot, and it’s a great addition to BGaming’s portfolio. Still, it’s pretty easy to see where the inspiration comes from after a few spins. Pragmatic Play’s Gates of Olympus has heavily inspired the slot, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing, and it’s something most providers do today anyway.

We also like the fact that instead of just copying the mechanic, BGaming has added the Multiplier Reel, as this is at least them showing some originality, which is always good to see.

Still, it’s hard to look past the similarities, and with a maximum win potential capped at 5,000x, it’s hard to see Divine Queen: Heart of Ice doing overly well once released. However, the high 97% RTP and solid design work do it favours, and we imagine it’ll definitely get some spin-time once it’s live with operators.
