Game Overview
I’m fairly certain that most of us will have a neighbour fox, typically seen lurking around at night and looking for a bit of something to eat. So yeah, on the whole, pretty much hassle-free animals that might occasionally go through your trash. Well, that is up until now, as Backseat Gaming are about to disrupt that narrative with their Pyro Fox slot, a high-volatility release with two variations of a free spins bonus and a max win that reaches 15,000x the bet.
Theme & Design
When you’ve got a pyromaniac fox as the lead in your online slot, it begs the question, how do you approach the overall theme of the game? Whilst there could have been several avenues Backseat Gaming chose to go down, in the end they opted for a more cartoon-style design, which didn’t come as too much of a shock if I’m honest, as it fits with the general approach the studio takes with most of their slots, with Hoot Shot the Sheriff being a good example of this. That still leaves the setting of the game to tell you about, which takes us on a camping trip out in the forest, the perfect place for a pyro to find things to burn, I guess.
Having searched through our library of slots to give you some recommendations of similar games, I have to admit I found it challenging to match anything remotely similar, but if you want to stick with a fiery theme, go check out Thunderkick’s Flame Busters and Wheels of Flame from Playtech.

Pyro Fox Gameplay & Features
Backseat Gaming’s Pyro Fox operates over a 5×4 reel configuration, with 14 fixed paylines active throughout. If you’re new to the developer, then this might seem a strange amount of paylines for a game with a larger playfield, but it’s fairly standard for both Backseat and all of the providers who partner with Hacksaw Gaming to use their OpenRGS platform to distribute their content.
Pyro Fox comes with a return to player percentage that sits just above the industry average at 96.24%, whilst players will be pleased to see a large bet spread available to choose from with stakes ranging from a minimum of €0.10 to a maximum of €100.
The gameplay has a few major talking points, the first being the Pyro symbol, which, when it appears in the base game, will transform into a full reel wild. This is a touch disappointing, if I’m honest, as it’s the only thing of note in the base, and whilst it’s great if a few of them land, with no multipliers attached, you’ll need a miracle to hit anything remotely substantial.
Right, onto the better features, starting with the Blazing Glory free spins triggered when 3 moon scatter symbols land in view. Before this bonus begins, you have a chance to gamble your starting spins for more. Once the feature starts, a persistent multiplier is in play, which increases by +1 at the start of every spin; additionally, sticky wilds are also in play and will remain in place for the duration of the bonus.
Up next is the Flame Fox’s Frenzy free spins, triggered when 3 fire tree scatters land in view. Again, before the bonus starts, you can choose to gamble your starting spins. Once this bonus round begins, a persistent multiplier is in play, increasing in value by +1 at the start of every spin. Furthermore, there is an increased chance that the Pyro Fox symbol will hit, transforming into a full reel wild, giving you an improved chance to win.
Bonus Buy
There are a number of bonus buy options in Pyro Fox for players to take advantage of. These are:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Each spin is 3 times more likely to trigger a bonus – Costs 2x the current bet.
- WildFire FeatureSpins: A random global multiplier between 2x – 100x is applied to any winnings – Costs 50x the current bet.
- Blaze of Glory Free Spins: Costs 100x the current bet.
- Flame Fox’s Frenzy: Costs 200x the current bet.
Pros
- Two variations of the free spins can be triggered.
- High max win of 15,000x.
- Simple game mechanics to understand.
Cons
- Doesn't bring much new to the table with regard to mechanics.
- The base game is a bit dull.
Pyro Fox Slot Review Final Thoughts
When a relatively new studio begins filling out their game catalogue, we have to expect that not every release is going to be a banger. Some will be hits, others will be misses, and then there are the games that fill the mediocre section, which is where I'd position Pyro Fox. Yes, it does have two bonus rounds, both with persistent multipliers and one of which features the popular sticky wilds mechanic, but the base game is incredibly boring, and the theme didn't do much for me either.
There will undoubtedly be those of you who find something you like in this game, and whilst I'm not saying it's a bad release, it just failed to ignite any spark in me at all. Do you agree? Try the demo and see what you make of it.
