Slot Overview

Prince of Purrwood is an AvatarUX release designed around a high-volatility maths model, and that offers a maximum win potential of 10,000x. Played on a 6×3 grid, the game’s layout can expand up to 6×6, and it boasts cascading reels, an increasing global multipliers, stacked multipliers, free spins, and more – but is it any good? Has AvatarUX finally managed to move away from the “Pop” style of games that they milked for so long? Demoslot investigates.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Prince of Purrwood begins on a 6×3 layout, but it uses an all-ways mechanic rather than fixed paylines, and the grid can also expand up to 6×6 in size. The game offers an RTP of 96.13%, and you can from €0.10 to €300 per spin.

Now, the base game’s main mechanic is tied to cascading wins and locked cells. Every time you hit a winning cascade, the symbols involved with the win are removed, and new ones can drop down to take their place. This also unlocks extra positions from the reels above, and as these cells open, they start to unlock hidden multipliers values, which add to a global multiplier orb, the sum of which is then applied to the total win for that spin.

The game’s main Free Spins bonus is triggered by landing 3+ bonus symbols in view, and depending on the number of scatters you trigger the feature with, you’ll receive between 6 and 15 free games. During the bonus, both the unlocked grid positions and the global multiplier are persistent between spins, so they don’t reset. Now, if you manage to fully-unlock the grid, you’ll also receive extra free games.

Bonus Buy

Prince of Purrwood includes a couple of Ante Bet/Bonus Buy options. You can play with the Ante Be set to increase the odds of triggering the bonus round naturally, and you can also buy into multiple variations of the free spins; standard, Bonus Plus, and Bonus Max.

Theme & Design

Prince of Purrwood goes for a playful outlaw-in-the-forest kind of style, and you’ll notice that they’ve done away with the classic Robin Hood theme, choosing, instead, to bring in a lineup of rogue cats.

Graphically, it’s actually a pretty good looking game, and we feel that AvatarUX has done a nice job of moving away from the POP mechanics they became so well known for – which is actually a good thing, in our opinion, as it makes things feel more original.

Sure, it’s not quite as authentic-feeling, theme-wise, as the likes of Sherwood Gold, and, weirdly, it reminds us of some of Peter & Sons’ games in terms of design. Still, we think it offers enough originality and it’s presented in a way that makes it feel fresh – which is something we never dislike seeing!

Pros

  • Solid expanding grid mechanic
  • Persistent multipliers/unlocked grid during the bonus offers great potential
  • Theme is well-done and the visuals are polished

Cons

  • Base game payouts are pretty poor without multipliers
  • You need a lot of cascades to hit decent wins
  • Gambling your free games can result in you getting nothing

Final Thoughts

Prince of Purrwood is one of those slots where the mechanics matter much more than the theme, in our opinion, even if the general presentation is, mostly, very well done. Of course, the expanding grid mechanic is far from being unique, but AvatarUX has, in our opinion, done enough to make things feel unique here - rather than just reusing an older mechanic.

Yes, the base game wins aren’t worth the most in the world, but if you get enough cascades - and hit the right multipliers - the wins can start to stack up pretty quickly, and we really like how, during the bonus, the multipliers don’t reset between spins.

For us, Prince of Purrwood looks like a solid AvatarUX release for players who enjoy cascade-heavy slots with progression-based and persistent bonus mechanics, and while the low base game payouts are a bit annoying, it’s generally a fairly good game and one we’d definitely play for ourselves!
