If there was ever a popularity contest amongst the gods of Norse mythology, I can’t help but think that Thor would inevitably be the winner! A little-known fact – at least to me, anyway! – is that Thor first popped up as a god in Germanic Paganism long before he appeared in the Kingdom of ASGard. We do spoil you with useless titbits of information here at Demoslot, don’t we? Of course, Pragmatic Play’s title, Power of Thor Megaways, has absolutely nothing to do with Germanic Paganism – it’s a 117,649 payway machine with a 96.55% RTP (increasing to 96.97% when using the bonus buy facility) along with a top win of 5,000x the total stake.
Power of Thor uses the familiar Megaways layout of six reels plus a horizontal along the top of reels two through five. This is a tumbling reels machine, meaning that winning combinations will disappear from view immediately after forming. After the remaining symbols drop to the bottom of the screen, the resulting empty positions are filled with new symbols falling from above. The horizontal reel contains a double-width hammer symbol which has a corresponding special feature each time the entirety of it lands in view. Scatter symbols can appear on all reels, which means you can potentially hit up to nine of them for 30 free spins.

Power Of Thor Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
In Norse mythology, Thor was a hammer-wielding god associated with lightning, thunder, storms, sacred gloves and trees, strength, the protection of humankind, hallowing, and fertility but strangely, not online slots! This seems quite the omission – if I were to edit the Wikipedia page on the subject, I wonder how long it would stay up for? I could attach all kinds of supporting evidence – Kingdom of ASGard, Gates of Valhalla, Power of Gods Valhalla, and so forth – how on earth could you argue with that?
The paytable does not make clear exactly who the characters are meant to be, but I think it’s fair to assume that the most valuable guy with a payout of 20x the total bet for a six of a kind combination has to be Thor! I’m going to guess that the blue character is Odin, offering 5x the bet for a complete payway, whilst the green guy is likely to be Loki and pays 2.5x for all six symbols. As I’m on a roll copying the characters from Thunderstruck here, I’ll go with Valkyrie for the female symbols, which have a return of 2x for a complete payway! There are six more low pays, with prizes ranging from 0.6x for six nines to 1.5x for six aces. Unfortunately, there is no cash payout for the wilds, scatters, or hammer symbols.
Choosing your stake is performed using the same three-way menu used by all other Pragmatic Play machines. You can set the bet amount, coin value, and total bet, and the combination of these three values offers a great deal of flexibility between the minimum/maximum wagers of €0.20 and €100.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Power of Thor Megaways uses a typical six-reel Megaways arrangement. This means that each reel can divide into between two and seven segments during each game round when including the top horizontal reel.
Most symbols require at least three matches on adjacent reels starting from the left to award a win, except the Thor symbol, which will also pay for just two matches. Wild symbols are available to boost your chances of hitting a win but only appear on the top horizontal reel.
Hammer Feature
The double-wide hammer symbol does not have any cash payout and can only appear on the horizontal reel. Whenever the hammer is fully visible as a two-position symbol, it will cause all symbol positions directly underneath it to transform into wilds. If the hammer scrolls due to symbols on the horizontal reel being removed, the wild positions underneath it will move to the left before your next win is evaluated.
Power Of Thor Megaways Slot Bonus Features
Scatter symbols can appear anywhere on the screen and show in any size possible on the reel. This means that there are far more free spin possibilities than most other games, as follows:
- 4 Scatters: 10 Free Spins
- 5 Scatters: 14 Free Spins
- 6 Scatters: 18 Free Spins
- 7 Scatters: 22 Free Spins
- 8 Scatters: 26 Free Spins
- 9 Scatters: 30 Free Spins
Gamble Feature
Before the bonus round begins, you may choose to gamble for the chance to win additional free spins. Gambling is not possible if 26 or 30 free spins are won from the base game. If you do choose to gamble, you have the following odds of success:
- From 10 to 14 free spins: 62.81%
- From 14 to 18 free spins: 70.39%
- From 18 to 22 free spins: 75.02%
If you lose the gamble, all free spins will be lost, and you will be returned to the base game.
Free Spins
The free spin mode works similarly to the one in Big Time Gaming’s original Bonanza online slot, with an ascending multiplier increasing by 1x every time a winning combination is removed from the reels. After every tumble, the current multiplier will be applied to the total win from all removed symbols before it is increased again.
Hitting three or more scatter symbols during the feature will add four extra free spins to your remaining total. The hammer feature can be won during the free spins round.
Bonus Buy
You can choose to purchase a set of free spins at the cost of 100x the current stake. The number of triggering scatters is determined randomly before the bonus round begins. However, the paytable mentions that you cannot win more than 22 free spins when using this facility unless you choose to use the gamble feature.
Power Of Thor Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
Pragmatic Play is in a bit of a pattern at the moment of recycling their previous slots, and whilst I can’t think exactly which game this one is a clone of, I know for sure that I have seen all of this before! That’s not to say that Power of Thor Megaways is a bad game – just don’t expect anything unique or ground-breaking.
