Game Overview

As somebody who reviews dozens of online slots, week in, week out, it’s always nice to spot a title on the to-do list which is something of a personal favourite. It feels hard to believe to me, but Thunderkick celebrate their tenth year in business in 2022. The studio seemed to spring up out of nowhere, and before anyone knew it they were creating smash hits like Pink Elephants. This amazing game features 4,096 pay ways, a maximum win of 8,200x your stake, and an RTP of 96.10%.

On the face of it, Pink Elephants is fairly simple. A random feature occasionally activates during the base game, adding fixed scatters to the reels before the spin begins. Apart from that, the only other feature is a free spins bonus round – but the thing is, it’s one of the best free spins features out there.

That’s the basics, but there is lots more to know about Thunderkick’s Pink Elephants video slot. If you fancy diving straight in, we have a demo slot available right here on this page:

Paytable For Pink Elephants Slot

Older readers might remember that pink elephants are supposedly a typical kind of hallucination common amongst those who have had too much to drink. For me, the phrase instantly triggers memories of watching Disney’s Dumbo with my grandmother when I was very young. It’s a faint memory sadly, but I distinctly remember a long scene during which dozens of pink elephants marched around the screen. I think I’ll have to try find a copy of the original film to see if I can coax out any additional nostalgic memories. Oh yes, as for the Pink Elephants video slot, well, I find the graphics and sound all a little unremarkable to be honest – this one is definitely all about the winnings! That said, the scatter symbol being shaped like a peanut leads me to hope that the developers of this game share my happy memories of watching Dumbo as a child.

So, there must be some incredible numbers on the paytable then, right? Well, not exactly… the pink elephant symbols pay out 10x your stake for a full line of six, but these are stacked on all six reels making a full screen of 4,096 ways a possibility. The remaining picture symbols pay 7x, 6.5x, 5.5x, and 5x for six-of-a-kind, making none of them particularly attractive over the others. All other symbols (apart from the wild) are stacked on the reels too, although the pink elephants seem to show up in stacks much more commonly than everything else – that hasn’t been confirmed by Thunderkick, however, so it’s possible I may have just had one too many beers whilst writing this review.

Bet sizes start at €0.10 and top out at €100 a spin for those with seriously deep pockets. The 96.10% RTP is also quite attractive for such a high variance game, but of course with such huge wins on offer there must be many more losers than winners.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 6 Reels, 4,096 Paylines, And Win Up To 8,200x Your Bet Per Spin On Thunderkick's Pink Elephants Online Slot

I feel as if I haven’t done much to explain what makes Pink Elephants such a great online slot yet – considering I gave it so much praise and called it a personal favourite in the first paragraph, you are no doubt waiting to hear what all the fuss is about. Firstly, the six-by-four setup with 4,096 payways means there are far more opportunities to win on many paylines compared to most other slots. A full screen of pink elephants should pay 10x your stake multiplied by 4,096 – more than four times the advertised maximum win.

If Thunderkick are to be believed, the maximum number of ways you can win on simultaneously must be 820. Here’s the thing – YouTube videos exist of players winning more than this from a single spin during the bonus round. I suspect that the true maximum win is 10,240x – a full screen of pink elephants, minus four symbols. If this is true though, then why would Thunderkick downplay the maximum win of one of their most popular games? I honestly have no idea.

Magic Peanut Feature

At the start of any spin, you may see outlines of scatter symbols appearing randomly on the reels before they begin to spin. This feature can add anywhere between one and six scatters to the reels, though frustratingly two seems to be the most common number. This feature will often trigger, and you won’t end up getting any free spins, so don’t get too excited when you see it activating – wait until at least three peanuts are on the screen first.

Pink Elephants Slot Free Spins Feature

Land 3 Or More Peanut Scatter Symbols To Trigger The Free Spins Feature On Pink Elephant Video Slot

Unsurprisingly, just one place remains in which to discover the magic behind the Pink Elephants video slot – so here’s the real story. First, while hitting three scatters does award you the free spins feature, you will only start with seven free spins. If you hit four scatters, this jumps straight up to 11 spins.

Five and six scatters are where it gets crazy however – 15 or 19 spins respectively. Hitting two or more scatters during the feature will add even more free spins to the counter – two scatters award three more spins, while a full sweep of six adds a massive 11 extra spins to the meter.

Next, look out for pink elephants with bright orbs on their face in the free spin’s mode. As you collect more of these orbs, the other picture symbols will begin to transform into pink elephants. Make it all the way to the last stage of the bonus and every reel will be stuffed to the brim with these top paying symbols.

Transform all the other animals into elephants with a decent number of spins left on the counter, and you are more or less guaranteed at least one monster of a spin before the free spins complete. Check out a few videos on YouTube of players who made it to the last stage of the bonus though and you’ll see that with all pictures transformed, it’s harder to miss a huge win than to hit one.

Remember that 8,200x stake maximum win, too? That isn’t a cap enforced by the game, it is the top win per individual spin. The biggest win I have seen is over 80,000x the players bet – and most players aren’t recording their free spin sessions. The chances are that Pink Elephants has awarded more than 100,000x stake several times.

Pink Elephants Slot Review Final Thoughts

My own experience playing Pink Elephants has been phenomenal. There are only a handful of games I can say with certainty that I have profited from on over the lifetime of my play, and Pink Elephants is easily one of my biggest winners of all time – only NetEnt’s Dead or Alive and its sequel have been more generous to me.

You might be aware of a sequel released by Thunderkick in 2020, but despite spending several hours playing it I haven’t been able to spot any differences between the two games apart from the refreshed graphics and sound. Interestingly, the paytable does update the maximum possible win per spin to 10,000x – but the original was already capable of delivering such a win anyway.

I wondered if it was just a case of Thunderkick giving the HTML5 version a fresh title to attract new players, before realizing that the first game never used Flash to begin with. As far as I can tell, the reason for the release of Pink Elephants 2 is a total mystery?
