Slot Overview

Pharaoh’s Last Wish is an Ancient Egypt-themed video slot from Relax Gaming, and the slot combines cluster pays, cascading wins, and a five-level Symbol Collection mechanic that unlocks stronger power-ups as you play. The game’s played on a 6×5 grid, there are multipliers of up to 100x, and you can win up to 10,000x your bet. Is it any good, though, and how realistic is it for players to successfully climb all five levels? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Pharaoh’s Last Wish sticks to familiar Egyptian imagery, so expect to see pyramids, desert dunes, and the familiar-looking Egyptian characters. Behind the reels you can make out some Egyptian hieroglyphics. There are two firelights at the bottom, lighting up the screen.

It’s presented pretty nicely, to be honest, and the sound effects are also fitting with the theme. Of course, Egyptian-themed slots are nothing new, and it’s arguably the most popular genre in the online gambling world! Still, if you’re a fan of titles like Eternal Nile and Ra’s Reckoning, Pharaoh’s Last Wish may be worth checking out!

Pharaoh’s Last Wish Gameplay & Bonus Features

Pharaoh’s Last Wish is played on a 6-reel, 5-row grid using a cluster pays system, so you won’t find any traditional paylines. Bet options range from €0.20 to €100 per spin, and the game offers a very slightly above-average RTP of 96.1%. Wins are formed by landing 5+ matching symbols in an adjacent cluster anywhere in view. Wins trigger cascades, too, where winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in from above.

The base game is designed primarily around the Symbol Collection meter, and this is visible in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This tracks winning symbols and has five levels to it. Level 1 unlocks the Colossal Symbol, Level 2 unlocks Symbol Destroy, Level 3 unlocks Extra Wilds, Level 4 unlocks Symbol Transformation, and Level 5 unlocks an Additional Row.

The Eye of Horus is the game’s Multiplier symbol, and it can land on all reels, displaying multiplier values of 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, or 100x. This multiplier is then applied to any wins the symbol helps form.

Interestingly, you must unlock Level 5 before you can trigger the Free Spins Bonus. Doing so requires you to land 3 Scatter symbols, and this awards you with 10 free games which are played on a larger 6×6 grid. During the free spins, you’ll want to collect Scatter symbols, as each time you collect 4, you “level up”, receiving +5 spins and a higher multiplier.

Feature Buy

Pharaoh’s Last Wish contains a Feature Buy which allows you to purchase direct entry into the Free Spins for 75x. Once Level 5 is unlocked, an Enhanced Spin option also appears; this increases your stake by 50% and doubles the odds of you landing the Free Spins.

Pros

  • Decent maximum win potential of 10,000x.
  • Strong feature variety.
  • Progression system is unique (with downsides).

Cons

  • Free spins can’t be triggered until you fully unlock the game.
  • Feature Buy is unavailable in some regions.
  • Enhanced Spin, again, can’t be unlocked until Level 5

Pharaoh's Last Wish Slot Review Final Thoughts

Pharaoh’s Last Wish is yet another Egyptian-themed slot (no comment), that’s clearly designed for players who’re happy to “play the long game.” Unlike most progression-based video slots, it’s really not a good game if you’re just looking for something to kill some time. You can’t actually land the main Free Spins Bonus until you fully-unlock the game, and the Enhanced Spin (Ante Bet) is also “gatekept” like this.

Now, this isn’t an approach we generally like, and it’s definitely going to be a big turn off for a lot of players. However; Relax Gaming has done a decent job of offsetting some of this with the improved base game mechanics that are unlocked by levelling up. Yes, it’s still a bit odd that you can’t trigger the main bonus round until you reach Level 5, but at least you can enjoy decent modifiers while you grind your way there!

Yes, the theme is overdone, and yes, this is definitely a controversial game. For us, it’s alright; not one we’d probably invest a lot of time into, but we’d be willing to give it a couple of hours and see how it performed - and the maximum win potential of 10,000x is an added temptation, too.
