Game Overview
Haunted pirates… superb graphics… localised jackpots… Find it all and win up to 4,000x your bet in Phantom Rides, a pirate-themed slot from Realistic Games that’s set to take you on a voyage over the seven haunted deadly seas.
Theme & Design
Despite being one of the smaller game studios and having a reputation for producing… let’s say underwhelming slots, from a visual perspective, Realistic Games’ Phantom Tides really is impressive. We’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best-looking slots we’ve seen released by the provider in a while, and the reels are overlaid on top of a moving 3D animation of the high seas!
Above the reels there’s a ghostly pirate, and he’s joined by the four localised jackpots, which you have a shot of winning when you play! The audio is also superb, and from a creative perspective, we really can’t fault the game. If, like us, it’s put you in the mood for more adventures out at sea, take a look over at our pirate-themed slots page, where you’ll find dozens of other exciting titles to play.

Phantom Tides Gameplay & Bonus Features
Phantom Tides is set on a conventional five-reel, three-row layout, and you’ll find 20 fixed paylines in play at all times. You can stake between €0.20 and €400 per spin, and the medium variance game comes with an RTP of 96.1%.
In terms of bonuses and features, there are a fair few to look out for. Firstly, there’s the Expanding Wild. This always lands as a single-position wild on the reels, and when it does (if it would help form a win), it will expand to cover all 3 rows of that reel.
Next is the Cursed Tide Respins. This is triggered by landing a fully stacked Ghost Ship Wild on reels 2, 3, 4, or 5, and once triggered, the “Ghost Ship Wild” walks one to the left before each re-spin. This is pretty similar to what NetEnt did way back in Jack and the Beanstalk, and it continues to “walk” until it drops off the left-hand side of the screen.
The next bonus is the Spirit Surge Feature, and this is triggered as part of the Ghost Ship Wild. When triggered, the Ghost Ship Wild is pushed back to reels 3, 4, or 5, expanding the number of remaining re-spins.
The game’s jackpot bonus is triggered by collecting coins during the base game, which are attached to certain symbols. When they land, they’re collected onto Captain Blackwater’s Spirit Chest on the main screen, and once this chest is filled, the Jackpot Wheel triggers. You then get to spin for one of the guaranteed jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand.
While you can’t buy entry into the jackpot bonus, you can buy Cursed Tide Respins. For the wild to start on reel 3, it costs 22x; reel 4 costs 29x; and reel 5 costs 32x.
Pros
- Good graphics.
- Four local jackpots can be won.
- A very well-presented theme.
Cons
- Low maximum win of 4,000x the bet.
- Jackpots are not progressive.
Phantom Tides Slot Review Final Thoughts
Phantom Tides is a very nicely put-together slot from Realistic Games, and we love how it looks. It’s got some decent mechanics and gameplay, and while there’s nothing overly unique about what’s inside the game, it all works well and ensures a fairly steady stream of action.
Our main complaint about the game is that, for such a good-looking slot, which has clearly had a lot of effort put into making it, the bonuses and features are, we feel, slightly underwhelming.
The fact that the highest-value “bonus buy” costs just 32x, well, that should tell you all you need to know about the volatility and hitting the maximum win potential of 4,000x, we can’t actually figure out how you’d do this unless you got the Ghost Ship Wild staying on screen for hours, as the highest-value local jackpot is only worth 2,000x!
However, it’s a decent enough game, and if you’re looking for something less volatile than many releases from other providers today, it’s worth checking out.
