Game Overview
Every good company needs a mascot, and if you’re company name is Peter & Sons… well, what better name could you come up with than a hero named Peter? Better yet, why not give him the second name Hunter, just like dozens of other successful mascots before him? That’s got to be a guarantee of success… right? That’s your lot for “jokes” today, I’m afraid – so if that’s all you came for, you may as well click away now. What do you mean you’re still here? I thought everybody liked my jokes. Sigh. Oh well. Twenty fixed paylines, a 96.3% RTP, and a 10,000x stake maximum jackpot. Was that funny? No? Okay, how about this – knock knock Orange. Orange who? Orange, you glad I didn’t say Peter Hunter? Wow, what a terrific audience!
So, what special features does Peter Hunter possess? Well, he does have cash symbols… all you need to do is land a scatter symbol in order to collect them. Better yet, every step a cash symbol makes increases its multiplier by 1x! What a terrific audience (okay, I’ll stop that now). There’s also a free spins feature – it only awards five spins initially but does boast an enlarged 5×5 panel that has a bunch of enhanced features as well – but you’ll have to keep reading to find out more about those!.. Or you could just take advantage of the bonus buy facility – it only costs 80x the normal price per spin, but curiously only awards three spins instead of the usual five. I think this is quite a nice dynamic, actually – hitting the bonus naturally offers an extra incentive over simply purchasing one, which is something I haven’t spotted offered in any other online slot.
So, what’s your verdict on Peter Hunter? Has June Hunter finally met her match? Or (plot twist) is he actually just her husband? Perhaps we’ll find out if we play enough of our free demo slot of Peter Hunter – available to play below.
Peter Hunter Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
What kind of hunter would you like to be? A Buffalo Hunter, perhaps? Or how about an Outlaw Hunter? Yeah, that one sounds a little bit sketchy to me too. I’m not quite as quick on the draw as some, however! Jane Hunter and the Mask of Montezuma sounds much more up my street, I suspect… I mean, after all, if you fail to find the mask, you can always chat her up in ye old tavern at the end of the day! And hey, if you like to swing the other way, there’s always John Hunter, who’s hunting for the Book of Tut, although I’d be much more impressed if he were searching for Book of [Insert Name Here]. I’d bet Jane would make much more interesting pillow talk, that’s for sure!
Pillow Talk? I can’t say that Peter looks like a fan, by my estimations! He sure looks like the kind of guy who ‘money talks’ to though, but would he be impressed by the 30x payout for a full payline of five bear symbols? Unlikely, I suspect! The four-horned blue creature should be worth a fortune, especially in the unexplored Australian outback, but alas, he’ll still only pay you 20x for all five symbols! The wiley fox, he’ll return 15x for a full payline of his symbols, whilst the clever-looking bird, he can get you 10x should you catch all of his! That’s your lot for the high pays, I’m afraid, and the wild only offers the same 30x return as the highest-paying bear. As for the low pays, those are divided into three groups – aces are worth 6x, kings and queens a little less at 5x, and finally, you’ve got jacks and tens at 4x each. Not stellar returns, I’m sure that Peter and his shotgun would agree – but is there more to this one than meets the (bulls)eye?
Before we find out, let’s just take a moment to check out the betting range – €0.20 at the bottom end, or €100.00 as the maximum wager per spin. There’s a good range of intermediate bets available too – you can’t bet €1.00 for some reason, but apart from that strange omission, I’m reasonably happy with what’s on offer here.
Base Game & Modifiers
So, Peter Hunter – a medium-to-high volatility online slot with 20 paylines and a standard 5×3 reel configuration with a cash collect feature and a free spins bonus game. All sounds pretty standard for a mascot slot, if I’m honest – you’ll just need three matching symbols on adjacent positions of one of the pay lines to score a win too – nothing surprising there either. So where’s the special sauce?
Cash Collect Feature
Well, here’s a good place to start! During the base game, any scatter that lands will attract any visible cash symbols towards it, increasing their value by 1x with each step. When the cash symbol finally moves onto the scatter position, Peter will fire his shotgun in an outpouring of manly rage, collecting the appreciated values as he does so. What an alpha!
Peter Hunter Slot Bonus Features
A relatively cool aspect of Peter Hunter is that you don’t need to hit all of the required scatter symbols during a single spin to trigger the bonus round, possibly explaining why you only receive one instead when purchasing a bonus round. You do need seven of the suckers though, and it did take me some time to accumulate that number the first time I got there. I kept playing a while longer and was moderately more successful on my third attempt, but my guess is that you’ll be waiting at least 200 spins between bonus rounds.
Free Spins
At the start of the free spins feature, you’ll have five spins initially awarded – the game is played on an enlarged reel set with 25 positions arranged in a 5×5 array. On each spin, one scatter is guaranteed to land with at least one random high-paying symbol. Every high-paying symbol travels towards the scatter just as in the base game, except now the symbols leave a trail of multipliers behind them which double in value.
When the hunter fires his glory shot, there are two possibilities – if a travelling high symbol gets hit, its value will be multiplied by the total of the hunter multiplier trail. If Peter turns out to be a poor shot on this occasion, the symbol will randomly change position, which is arguably a better outcome – funny how these work at times, isn’t it!
Bonus Buy
You can purchase a set of free spins for just 80x the total bet but be warned – you’ll only get three free spins for your money now, rather than the five awarded for collecting seven scatters in the usual manner.
Pros
- An attractive jackpot of 10,000x the total bet.
- Nice presentation, including a mascot character with... a lot of character, even if he does remind me a lot of the crazy Mexican from the old Looney Tunes cartoons!
Cons
- If you don’t pay enough attention to the bonus buy screen, you may be in for some disappointment when you only receive three free spins!
- Standard paytable wins are on the low side, and even the multipliers fail to make them truly exciting outside of the bonus round.
Peter Hunter Slot Review Final Thoughts
Peter & Sons has produced some excellent online slots recently, so it’s a little curious that a game named after them would be the worst of this year’s output so far from the developer – at least in my opinion. The jackpot is adequate, but you’ll need a lot of help from the bonus round to get anywhere near 10,000x your total bet.
